Second-Seeded Devils Season Ends With Loss to Top Seed Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The second-seeded Dickinson softball team saw their solid season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 9-1 (six innings) loss to the top-seeded Ursinus College at Snell Field on day two of the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Time of Game - 1:20
Pitching Decision
W - Christa Andrusiewicz (13-6) | L - Riley Kuehn (11-5)

Inside the Game
Dickinson looked primed to get on the board in the top of the first as Devon Kueny began the game with a double and then swiped second. However, Bears starter Christa Andrusiewicz setdown the next three hitters to retire the side. Ursinus would do what DC was not able to mangage in the top-half as two singles along with a hit batter loaded the bases with two down for Sarah Sullivan. She plated all three runners with a single out to left, before Riley Kuehn got Kayla Carr to swing through strike three to end the inning. The Red and White got a leadoff single from Abby Kohan to kickoff the second, but a fielder's choice and double-play stalled out any DC chance. With one gone in the home-half the Bears recorded three consecutive singles to score one. Then, after a strikeout, Allyson Meakim drove home two more with fourth single of the inning making the lead 6-0. That brought an end to Kuehn's day and brought on Lindsay Kucker who immediately allowed an RBI double to Amanda Panati stretching it to 7-0 through two.

Brooke Espenshade began the third with a single, but was erased on a fielder's choice off the bat of Laila Gwathmey. Back-to-back knocks by Kueny and Jane Lloyd filled the pillows for Eden Blanker. She provided an RBI single to play Gwathmey, unfortunately, Kueny was thrown out trying to advance to third. A single for Paige Hahn re-loaded the bases, but Kohan grounded out to second to stall the rally at 7-1. The game stayed that way all the way until the last of the sixth as the Bears produced four straight singles to score one and have the bags full for Meakim. She would draw a bases-loaded walk to plate the ninth of the game and reach the run-rule at 9-1.

The On-Deck Circle
Dickinson finishes the regular-season with a record of 23-15 overall and 12-4 inside the Centennial. Head Coach Matt Richwine and the rest of team now look ahead to the 2024 campagin where a talented group of returners along with some promising newcomers will look to have the Red Devils right back in the conference tournament next year.
