Devils Have Eight-Game Conference Win Streak Halted by Bears

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team had their eight-game Centennial Conference win streak come to an abrupt halt on Saturday morning as the visiting Ursinus College Bears posted wins of 4-1 and 7-2 at Dickinson Park.

Game One - Bears 4, DEVILS 1
Time of Game
- 1:34
Pitching Decision
W - Christa Andrusiewicz (11-5) | L - Riley Kuehn (9-3)

Inside the Game
After the visitors got two on in the top of the first, DC starter Riley Kuehn got back-to-back popouts to end the frame. In the home-half, singles by Jane Lloyd and Eden Blanker coupled with a free pass to Paige Hahn loaded the bags for Zoe Kleeblatt. She made it 1-0 with a sacrifice fly to center off of Christa Andrusiewicz. Abby Kohan then grounded out to second for the final out.

After a "one-two-three" inning by both pitchers in the second, Ursinus got on the board thanks to a pair of singles leading to a sac fly by Madison Wilson to tie the game. Kuehn did a nice job of limiting damage though with two more infield popout retiring the side. Dickinson would put two on in the home portion, but a Hahn popup and Kleeblatt groundout ended any threat. The Bears took the lead for good during the fourth as with two-out and a runner on first a two-bagger for Jordan Moore set the stage for a two-run triple by Sarah DiLello. The next batter Samantha Mallen plated the runner with an infield hit, before Kuehn got Wilson to flyout to left.

Dickinson would only be able to muster up one runner each in the fourth and fifth. Then, in the seventh singles by Jen Klepfer and Devon Kueny allowed the tying run to come to the dish with one down in the form of Lloyd. Unfortunately, she grounded out to the pitcher while on the same play Klepfer would be thrown out at home to end the game.

Game Two - Bears 7, DEVILS 2
Time of Game
- 1:34
Pitching Decision
W - Stephanie Wichman (7-1) | L - Lindsay Kucker (8-4)

Inside the Game
Each team would put a runner in scoring position during the first, but neither was able to be driven home. In the top of the second with two-out and two on the visitors made it 2-0 against Lindsay Kucker on a misplay by a DC outfielder. She then induced a groundout of Mallen to retire the side. Ursinus starter Stephanie Wichman setdown the Red and White in order to shift the game to the third.

Both pitchers retired the next six in a row they faced, before in the fifth a single, wild pitch and an error gave the Bears runners at second and third with two gone. That brought Wichman into the box trying to help herself out, but she popped up to short to stall the rally. Ursinus then added five during the sixth to break the game open sending nine batters to the plate and picking up five hits taking a 7-0 advantage into the home-half. Dickinson tried working their way back into the game in the last of the frame when a one-out knock from Lloyd was followed by an RBI double off the stick of Eden Blanker. A walk drawn by Hahn chased out Wichman and brought Riley Coneeny to the circle. She would allow just one inherited runner to score as Abby Kohan singled through the right-side cutting it to 7-2. Unfortunately, for Dickinson they were then setdown one-two-three in the seventh to end the game.
