Women's Track and Field Excels at Gladstein Invite at Indiana

Several New Personal Records Set in Exceptional Meet This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, IND – The University of Dayton women's track and field team was back in action for it's second meet of the season, as it traveled to Indiana University for the Gladstein Invitational. The Flyers had another strong showing, setting several new personal bests, as well as two new school records.

"We had another strong outing at Indiana this weekend. Chante Clinkscale and Lainey Studebaker earning new school records in the 60m and the Mile, respectively, were huge performances," commented head coach Jason Ordway. "We've shown continued improvement across multiple events with personal and season bests, and we're hoping to continue that momentum over the next several weeks. All three event groups are showing really nice progressions and now we need to hone in on weaknesses, refine our craft, and focus on recovery for future competitions."

Day one of the competition was opened up with the weight throw and pole vaulting, both featuring top-three finishes from Dayton athletes. Grad student Taylor Flight set a new season best in the weight throw, finishing third with a 18.43m throw. Junior Carolyn Bakx set a new PR in the pole vault competition, one of only three competitors to clear 3.60m, leading to a tied for second finish. Not to be outdone, Melissa Weidner placed second in the 3000m, the first race in the event, posting a 10:12.96. Junior Lauren Santiago placed fourth overall in the 400m, posting a time of 1:00.97. To round off the night, Chante Clinkscale and Kaira Granger stole the show in the 60m race. After qualifying in the first (Clinkscale) and third (Granger) positions in the prelims, the freshman duo kept those same positions in the final, as they both set event PR's. Clinkscale broke her own Dayton record, posting a 7.42 in the final, while Granger posted a 7.56 in third place. Closing out the evening, Lainey Studebaker set a new UD record in the one mile race, winning the event with a 4:45.79.

On day two, Taylor Flight and Grace Homan finished sixth and seventh respectively in the shot put, with Homan setting a new season best with a 12.99m toss. In the long jump, Jayla Pruitt (4.90) and Kelly McCloughan (4.89) finished 10th and 11th among a talented field. Chante Clinkscale set another UD record in the 200m final on day two, winning the event outright with a 24.54. Maria Steinke placed fifth overall in the 600m as well, posting a 1:47.50 overall.

The Flyers will return to action next Friday, as they will be at nearby Cedarville University for the Cedarville Collegiate Open. Friday's meet will kick off at 2:30 p.m.
