AMES, Iowa - Iowa State Gymnastics Head Coach Jay Ronayne announced that Phoebe Turner has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Iowa State. Turner is the first member of Iowa State's signing class that will begin competition for ISU in 2019.

Turner, who is from Great Britain, trains at The Academy of Gymnastics in Portishead and coached by Liz Kincaid. Ronayne not only admires her talent level, but also thinks highly of her character.

"Phoebe is a very strong competitor yet very humble which I have found to be a rare combination," Ronayne noted. "She excels at the highest level of the sport, yet is a very grounded young woman. She is a perfect fit for the Cyclones."

Turner is a current member of the Great Britain National Team. Ronayne thinks her previous achievements will translate well to the college level.

"She has a lot of high-level gymnastics skills that have kept her competitive internationally as well as success and experience in big competitions," Ronyane said. "Phoebe is a well-balanced gymnast. She is very strong on all four events so I would anticipate her competing immediately for us in the 2019 season and making an impact in the all-around. I know she has a great NCAA career ahead of her."

Turner visited the States and Iowa State in Summer 2016, which led to ISU being on the top of her list. Ronayne explained how the Cyclones were able to land her.

"Liz Kincaid, her coach reached out to a lot of universities in the NCAA to gauge interest in Phoebe," Ronayne remembered. "(Former associate head coach) Katie Minasola was able to convince Liz that Iowa State should be one of the schools that Phoebe should visit. We are very excited that she chose to be a Cyclone and can't wait for our fans to see her in action."
