Men's Golf Wraps Up Play at PBC Championship

Ronan Kleu finished in 10th place for the Cougars.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The 10th-ranked Columbus State University men's golf team closed out the 2021 Peach Belt Conference on Sunday with 11-over 299 over the final round to finish in seventh place. The three-day tournament was played at the Slammer & Squire World Golf Village.

12th-ranked Young Harris College captured the program's first-ever PBC Championship after carding an even-par 288 on Sunday to leapfrog 25th-ranked Lander University on the leaderboard. The Mountain Lions were 8-under over the three days to win the event by seven strokes over fifth-ranked USC Aiken and 11 strokes ahead of third-place Lander. YHC's Peter Chung was the medalist, winning the event by 11 strokes over his nearest competitor.

The Cougars were led by a top-10 performance from Ronan Kleu (+1, 217), while Arran Kanth (+3, 219) was just behind his teammate in 11th.

"We are obviously very disappointed at our effort at the Peach Belt Conference Championship," said Director of Golf Mark Immelman. "We just struggled for momentum from the very start of the event and despite scratching and clawing and trying our very best we just couldn't put any worthwhile scores together. We will get back on the drawing board and make sure we are well prepared for the upcoming NCAAs."

Kleu collected his sixth straight top-10 performance as the PBC Player of the Year conclude play in 10th on Sunday. He didn't have his best game but still managed to shoot a 4-over 76, including finding two birdies throughout his day. Kleu shot a 1-over 217 over the event.

Kanth shot his second 2-over 74 of the tournament on Sunday to finish in an 11th-place tie. It was a rough start for the second-year freshman as he made the turn 5-over, but three straight birdies on holes 14-16 lowered his score. Kanth shot a 3-over 219 over the championship.

Jordan Doull had his best round of the week on Sunday. The All-PBC selection carded a 4-over 76 to climb a few spots on the leaderboard to 38th. Doull had back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th and shot a 13-over 229 three-round score.

Also finishing in 38th place was Benjamin Womack. Womack concluded his championship with a 4-over 76 after finding success over the back nine on Sunday. He was even over his final nine holes, including a stretch of three birdies over four holes.

Preston Wagaman had Columbus State's drop score on Sunday with a 7-over 79. For the event, Wagaman shot a 22-over 238 and finished in 45th.

Columbus State will await the announcement of the 2021 NCAA South/Southeast Regional field. The regional will take place on May 6-8 in Bowling Green, Fla at the Streamsong Resort.
