Settle Cricket Club v Little Lever Cricket Club (Hamer Cup)

Settle Cricket Club returned to Hamer Cup action this weekend as they entertained former Bolton Cricket League side Little Lever Cricket Club at Marshfield, with the Yorkshire side looking to progress to the semi-final stage of the competition. Little Lever Cricket Club arrived at Marshfield top of the North West Cricket League Premiership table having won all thirteen matches so far this season, leaving them unbeaten and in excellent form.

Umpires Ian Cavill and Robert Whipp called both captains to the middle for the toss which was won by Will Davidson (Settle Cricket Club) who elected to bat. Archie Phillipson and Tremaine Dowrich (Young Oversea’s Professional) opened the batting for the home side.

Tremiane Dowrich was the first to lose his wicket when he was clean bowled by Andy Flear for twenty-four runs off forty deliveries, it included one (4) and one (6) with the opening partnership making fifty-seven runs. The wicket brought Ashen Silva (Club Professional) to the crease, who joined the Yorkshire Cricket Club young player Archie Phillipson.

Phillipson and Silva added a further twenty-five to the scoreboard before Phillipson was trapped LBW off the bowling of Nipun Gaikwad for thirty runs from seventy-two balls which included one (4). The visitors took another quick wicket dismissing John Davidson for two runs from eleven balls off the bowling of Nipun Gaikwad making the score 76-3.

James Snowden was next into bat for the home side joining Ashen Silva at the crease as the pair added another nineteen runs to the total before James Snowden was caught by Gareth Moxon off the bowling of Andy Flear for seven runs off twenty deliveries. The wicket then brought Will Davidson (Captain) to the crease, but he lasted just two balls before being run out for one run out by Adil Nisar.

Robbie Davidson then came into bat and built another good partnership added a further fifty-five runs to the scoreboard. Curtis Anderton ended the partnership having Ashen Silva caught by Naeem Patel for fifty-two runs from sixty-one balls which included four (4’s). Eddy Read was next into bat off the home side but he was dismissed for a golden duck caught by Nipun Gaikwad off the bowling of Adil Nisar bring the score to 159-7.

The visitors then took three quick wickets with Ben Hulse scoring one off three balls, Daniel Strickland scoring three runs from three balls and Robbie Davidson scoring twenty-four runs from twenty-six balls, with Joe Pickles unbeaten on one run. Leaving Settle Cricket Club on 165 runs from their forty overs.

Having been set a target of 166 runs to win the visitors opened the batting with Nipun Gaikwad and Adil Nisar, but the duo had a nightmare start as Gaikwad was caught behind by Robbie Davidson off the bowling of Eddy Read for one run off just two balls. Whilst Adil Nisar was caught by Tremaine Dowrich off the bowling of Will Davidson for a duck leaving the visitors 4-2.

The visitors had two new batsman at the crease after just a few overs with Josh Gent (Captain) and Jake Lehmann (Club Professional) and son of Darren Lehmann former Australian Cricketer and now coach of the Australian cricket team. Josh Gent was next to be dismissed caught behind by Robbie Davidson from the bowling of Ben Hulse for two runs off thirty-seven deliveries.

Jake Wilde was next into bat for the visitors joining Lehmann at the crease with the duo adding a further fourteen runs to the scoreboard before Wilde was caught by Tremaine Dowrich off the bowling off Archie Phillipson for eleven runs off twenty balls leaving the visitors 39-4. Naeem Patel was next into bat joining Lehmann and the pair added forty-four runs to the total before Jake Lehmann was caught by Ben Hulse off the bowling of Ashen Silva for forty-three from seventy deliveries included four (4’s).

The visitors then had a mini collapse as they lost the last four wickets for just ten runs which included Curtis Anderton (one), Andy Flear (six), Gareth Moxon (three) and Preston Hayhurst (0-Golden Duck) whilst Marcus Barlow was unbeaten on zero as the visitors finished the match 110 all out, meaning Settle Cricket club won the match by fifty five runs and progressed to the Hamer Cup Semi-Finals.

Settle Cricket Club will now go into the semi-final draw were they will meet either Blacked Cricket Club, Padiham Cricket Club or Farnworth Social Circle Cricket Club for a place in the 2023 Hamer Cup Final.
