LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – The Cedar Crest College softball team was downed twice on its final day at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Friday at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. The Falcons lost to Misericordia University, 6-2, and were then defeated by Albion College, 10-2, in five innings.

Game One – Misericordia 6, Cedar Crest 2

The Falcons recorded a pair of runs in the second on a two-run single from first-year Brooke Trentler (Whiteford, Md./North Harford). Sophomore Natalie Hasert (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and junior Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter) scored on the play to put Cedar Crest on top, 2-0.

Misericordia secured the lead with a three-run third inning. Senior Nikki Elliott (Wilmington, Del.) singled to left field to plate first-year Kiersten Tinio (Randolph, N.J.). The Cougars then got a two-RBI double from graduate student Kaitlin Redling (Flemington, N.J.) to make the score 3-2.

Misericordia added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to capture the contest by the 6-2 score.

Senior Sophia DeFebo (Chalfont, Pa.) was victorious in the circle for the Cougars. She allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out seven.

Junior BB Aquila (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was tagged with the loss for the Falcons. She gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits.

Sophomore Bridget Doherty (South Windsor, Conn.) guided Misericordia at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored.

First-year Kate Gronkowski (Hanover Township, Pa./Hanover Area Junior Senior), Kline, Hasert, Trentler, and senior Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) tallied a hit each for Cedar Crest.

Game Two – Albion 10, Cedar Crest 2 (Five Innings)

Cedar Crest struck for both its runs in the first frame. Sophomore Taylor Faw (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) delivered a two-run single to left field to plate Mundy and junior Alex Mullen (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro).

Albion answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Junior Megan Maiuri (Macomb, Mich.) drove in the first run on a double to center field and then Maiuri later scored on a groundout to knot the game at two.

After a scoreless second inning, the Britons scored five runs in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth to end the game with the 10-2 final score in the fifth inning.

First-year Emilie Goldstein (West Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded the win for Albion. She surrendered two runs on four hits. Goldstein also had three strikeouts and one walk.

Aquila was credited with the loss for the Falcons, giving up seven runs on ten hits.
