P2A and P2B Blog

Friday 23rd September:

September in P2B!

What a busy month we’ve had in Primary 2, from working with numbers within 100, through using concrete materials, play, individual, pair and group work we’ve been learning to make them, recognise, sequence and write them.

Our Senses

We have started to learn about our 5 Senses, starting with Sight and Hearing learning about how we use our senses to detect information for our brain and how they help keep us safe. We have been investigating their reliability and limitations through blind fold and listening activities.

We also enjoyed learning some sign language for some animals.

Outdoor fun

Some children were looking for bugs in the playground so we thought if we made a bug hotel it would encourage some bugs to come for a visit. Mrs Christie had scraps of wood to help make the frame then the children went to forage natural materials to help get ready for some bugs! The were able to find some bugs at the same time. I’m sure the bugs will love their hotel!

Work we’re proud of

The children love to show off their creations and wanted to share these with you.

What have P2A been up to?

Over the last few weeks, P2A have been a very busy bunch!

Perhaps most exciting, was the visit of Carrick Knowe’s therapy dog, Archie! Archie and his owner, Jackie, have been making their visits around classes. Pupils are reminded here of how to safely interact with dogs, and then have the opportunity to cuddle Archie and ask Jackie questions. Archie will be making many more visits in the coming year!

P2A also finished their class charter, where they explored the school’s values of kindness, respect, responsibility, and honesty. To learn about honesty, P2A did a litter pick of their playground. It was tough work but very worthwhile it as the playground looked as good as new!

For P.E, we have been looking at how we can improve our fitness. Specifically, we have been exploring our agility and balance skills. It has challenged us a good bit! This has involved balance warm up followed by different stations including ladders, step ups, jogging, and even squats!

Overall, it has been a busy few weeks. P2A are getting a lot accomplished!

What’s been going on in P2b?

We’ve had a busy few weeks in Primary 2.

We’ve been practicing getting changed into our P.E kits and are able to do it in under 8 minutes, we’ve had lots of fun in the Gym Hall improving our fitness, using our bodies to go under, over and through various equipment.

During our play and Numeracy time we’ve been practising logging onto the i-pads and using them to scan qr codes so we can play games.

Book Festival

We went on our very first school trip this week to The Edinburgh Book Festival, we went to see a show called Uncle Pete and the Forest of Lost Things- which we had started to read in class and were excited to meet the Author David C Flanagan and Illustrator Will Hughes. We got to listen to some of the story being read while while Will drew along which was very cool!- we were lucky to get given some of the drawings he drew to take back to school with us.

While waiting for our bus back we got to meet the Gruffalo, Mouse and Rabbit.

Our School Values

We have been learning about our four school values Kindness, Responsible, Respect and Honesty. We have read stories, used drama, played games and drew pictures to help us. In our class we have created a Values display and have written ways in which we can try demonstrate these in school and get to wear our values lanyard.

The class were very lucky on Thursday Ms Pincock and Primary 6 came to help teach us about our new school bin system, we completed an activity with them to help us be more responsible and think about how we can recycle more of our rubbish.

We continued being Responsible by going on a litter pick in our school grounds as we had spotted some litter and didn’t want any birds or animals trying to eat it and wanted to help keep our school tidy.

Well done Primary 2 for being so responsible!!

Book Festival 2022!

This week, P2 had their first every school trip to the Edinburgh Book Festival!

There, P2 attended a show named ‘Enter the Forest of Lost Things’ by David C Flanagan & Will Hughes, where they learned about the characters of the ‘Uncle Pete’ series.

They got to listen to chapter 1 of ‘ Uncle Pete and The Forest of Lost Things’, while also watching live as the illustrator, Will Hughes, drew what was happening in real time!

Perhaps most exciting, was that pupils got to meet the Gruffalo and other Julia Donaldson characters while waiting for their bus!

Overall, it was a successful first school trip! I would like to give a special thanks to Shiv, our parent helper for the day!

Wednesday 24th August:

Hello from P2A!

Welcome back for a new school year! I am Miss Mulvihill, P2A’s class teacher, and here is P2A!

In the first week, we have already been up to a lot. P2A have been enjoying exploring their new classroom, and all of the resources they can play with! This has included lots of construction, drawing, role play, drawing, and play dough fun.

On the second day of school, P2A read the book ‘Fox Makes Friends’ by Adam Relf, which tells the story of a fox that makes his own friends using twigs, leaves, and berries. As a class, P2A then did some outdoor learning, collecting their own materials from outside to make friends of their own!

P2A also practiced changing into P.E kits for the very first time this week, and then had the opportunity to break in these new kits by playing group activity games in the P.E hall.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Welcome Back

Introducing Team P2B!

What a start we’ve had to Primary 2- exploring our classroom, playing with friends, making new friends and having lots of fun.

We read a story called Fox makes Friends– a story about a fox who wanted to make friends. We talked about what makes a good friend, being kind, sharing, being respectful. We then went outside and worked with a friend to collect natural materials and then make our own friend like Fox did in the story.

We look forward to sharing more of our learning soon.
