Calvin Men's Tennis Drops Indoor Match to Bethel (Ind.)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team lost 8-1 in its first match since its spring break trip to Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday at Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.

Bethel (8-8) jumped in front from the starting, winning all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 overall lead.

The Calvin (7-2) number-one team of Maurquis Willingham (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) lost 8-4, while the numbers two and three teams were each defeated 8-5.

In singles, the lone Calvin point came in the number-two match where Felipe Sartori (Cotia, Brazil/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) won his match by default. Sartori was leading 5-2 in the first set before the match was called.

Bethel won the other five matches in straight sets to secure the overall win.

COACH'S COMMENT: "I have to give Bethel a lot of credit today," Calvin head tennis coach John Ross said. "They are extremely talented and we had a difficult time getting on the offensive end of the rally."

NEXT UP: The Calvin men's tennis team will return to action on Friday, March 22, against Spring Arbor. The match will be played at Michigan Athletic Club in Lansing, Michigan, at 2:00 PM.
