Northfield wins at St Neots as O’Shea is Summer Series Champion

St Neots Golf Club was the final venue for the awaited finale of the Summer Series. The heavy rain and thunder disappeared for the afternoon so Cambridgeshire golfers could play. Out first past County captain Owen Cousins set the pace with a 68, which included five birdies. Later on Ed Dimambro shot 69 with an eagle at the par 5 5th hole.

Using local knowledge, Adam Northfield plotted his way around the course going out in 33 and coming back in 35 shots, including 5 birdies for a 68. Northfield won on count back. Craig Thorburn and Alex Kephart struggled early on and faded away so it was left to Harry O’Shea and Joe York to fight it out for overall champion. York went out in 37 shots to O’Shea’s 36. Coming
back York unfortunately went out of bounds on the 15th to let the ever steady O’Shea in. York came back in 39 to O’Sheas 36 shots. With O’Shea’s 73 this was enough to clinch the title.

What summed up O’Shea’s performance was a valuable chip in for par on the first hole and a birdie on the last. County B captain, Isaac Rowlands, with a gross level par won the best nett score with nett 68 and James Mclaughlin won the U21 prize.

Thanks must go to St Neots for hosting the event.
