A young Midlands driver has claimed victory in the second round of the Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship after penalties to rivals saw him promoted to the top step of the podium.

Finlay Lines was able to secure the win in both the second heat and final events at the Kimbolton race track in Cambridgeshire.

Competing in the Minimax 950 class with 30 other competitors, the youngster has now won back-to-back rounds of the championship.

The Lichfield lad’s weekend started off poorly with an engine failure forcing him to retire in race one.

However, the Synergy Direct driver was able to turn it around by winning the following two events, with both races seeing plenty of action.

The final race saw Lines work his way through the field from 14th on the grid, to second on the final lap before a last gasp overtake attempt at the final corner saw him finish three-hundredths of a second off the leader.

He was later promoted to first after the on-track winner had a penalty applied to them.

Lines will continue his Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship campaign when he returns to the Kimbolton Kart Track on 9th March.
