Let’s Go Play Badminton!

What exactly are Let’s? Let’s are much less common than faults. When a let occurs, the rally stops and is replayed, without changing the score or serving positions. It is basically what you do when something confusing happens, like a birdie landing on the line, and both sides cannot agree on a decision. They cannot say whether or not the birdie was in or out, so they redo the play.

Here are some other cases where a let can be called:

  • No one is sure whether the shuttle landed in or out.
  • During the rally, a shuttle from another court was hit onto your court.
  • The receiver wasn’t ready for the serve, and asks for it to be played again.
  • Birdie explosion (my favorite reason for a Let!)

A Let can be called by an umpire or another player. But you cannot wait to call a let. You have to do it right away!

That was basically what a Let is. Next week, I will be posting about the actual game of badminton!
