March 2014

Although the bulk of the project has now been completed ready for the start of the new season on 12th April we still have work to do on the finishing touches … and funds to raise to afford them. The hard work will continue on both fronts right up to Monday 26th May when our special guest Mr Michael Fabricant MP will be visiting Walkfield to conduct the opening ceremony. This will also mark the conclusion of CrikFest! … details coming soon.  Meanwhile …

EASTER QUIZ

Kenny’s Quiz returns on Easter Sunday, 20th April, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start. Teams of 4 are invited to enter for another evening of iffy answers, dodgy music rounds and of course those pesky postcodes. Entry is £20 per team including buffet. Please contact Andie Oliver on 07740 088590 or andieo@btinternet.com to reserve a table. All proceeds will be put towards our pavilion modernisation project alrewasinspired!

There is still an opportunity for you or your loved one to have your name immortalised on the new welcome at the entrance to our pavilion. You can contribute to our fundraising campaign for our pavilion modernisation project alrewasinspired! by buying a brick from just £50. For more details see the enclosed leaflet. The deadline for the second tranche is 30th April.

This coveted limited edition artefact is now available at the bar for just £5. No desk should be without one. All proceeds will be donated to our pavilion modernisation project alrewasinspired!

LORD’S RAFFLE

All summer we will be selling raffle tickets to raise money for alrewasinspired! Tickets cost just £2 each and there’s a fabulous prize up for grabs of a pair of tickets for Lord’s on Saturday 19th July for the 2nd Test against India. These are grandstand tickets with a face value of £120 each so it’s a prize well worth winning.

Easter 2013 – Update on Fundraising Events

Friday 29 March – Sadly the Family Funday has fallen foul of the arctic weather so there will be no car boot sale. We are hoping to try again on Sunday 28 April. The club will now open at 1pm for the football match. In the evening there is live music with The Sign playing as support to The Outsiders. Tickets are £2 and doors open at 6.30pm. NB Good Friday means early closing at 10.30pm.

Saturday 30 March – Support our hardy cyclists as they battle the elements in the Tour de Farce. The challenge takes place from 6am to 10pm outside the newsagents. There are still a couple of half hour slots available in the early evening … for details call Gavin on 01283 790765 or email alrewas@bikerider.com

Sunday 31 March – Easter General Knowledge Quiz in the pavilion at Walkfield. Entry fee is £20 for a team of 4. Start 7.00 for 7.30pm. There are only a couple of tables left so pre-booking is essential. Call Andie on 07740 088590.

Please support our fundraising events. All monies raised go to our pavilion modernisation project alrewasinspired!

March 2013

Please support our pavilion modernisation project. We want to provide the village with a sports facility fit for the 21st century. We are building a new entrance lobby with disabled access, adding new ladies changing facilities, upgrading the heating and hot water system and more. We have received grant funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund and elsewhere but we need to raise more money to complete the project. If all goes well we’ll start building in September 2013 and finish by March 2014.

Individual and corporate donations are welcome. You can donate online at http://www.justgiving.com/alrewascc or alternatively send a cheque payable to “Alrewas Cricket Club” to Tim Aston at 59 Main Street, Alrewas, Burton upon Trent DE13 7AE (don’t forget Gift Aid). All donations of £50 or more will be recognised by a Commemorative Brick

We know fundraising campaigns can be hard work but we hope to make ours a lot of fun too. Please rally round and fell free to join in. You’ll find more details on all our fundraising events on the club website at http://alrewas.play-cricket.com

Family Funday

Make 29th March a really Good Friday by popping along to Walkfield for our familyfunday!

  • Car boot sale* and kids entertainment from 10am including sports taster sessions. Thanks to Lichfield Inflatables for providing the amusements
  • Fundraising football match at 2pm
  • Live music from 4pm featuring brilliant young Alrewas band The Sign
  • Food and refreshments available all day

* Booters’ entrance fee is £5 per table to be booked in advance. Access to field is via the Daisy Lane entrance for Booters only. If it’s too far for you to walk, parking for the general public is available via the Chaseview Road entrance.

The Imposters

Later on Friday 29th March Alrewas legends The Imposters will be playing live at Alrewas Cricket Club from 7.30pm. Featuring the  fabulous Thievey Nicks on vocals the band will be running through their extensive repertoire of classic tunes from the 70’s and 80’s. Tickets cost £2 available from Tim or Sue Aston or the band.

Tour de Farce

On Saturday 30th March four of Alrewas Cricket Club’s finest athletes will be taking part in a gruelling 16 hour bikeathon. Not exactly Harrogate to Paris, but 500km on an exercise bike outside the chip shop. When we say athletes we use the term loosely. Matthew Astle, Gavin Hodgett, Josh Jones and Andrew Woolley have all been undergoing a strenuous late night training regime in Lich Vegas so this is going to hurt.

Their challenge is not only to last the distance but to outpace a second bike ridden by the general public. We have 32 half hour slots up for grabs to anyone who wants to have a go and try and outpace our fearless four. All we ask is you make a minimum donation of £10 or generate the same amount in sponsorship.

Sign up now, but this challenge isn’t for the faint hearted as the whole event will be filmed for posterity courtesy of AES Security Systems. Thanks also to ezeegym for lending us the bikes. To find out more or to request your sponsorship form contact Gavin on 01283 790765 or email alrewas@bikerider.com

Quiz

On Sunday 31 March we are hosting a general knowledge quiz in the pavilion at Alrewas Cricket Club with Ken Herr acting as your quizmaster for the evening. We are expecting a full house so please arrive at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. The entrance fee is £20 per team which includes a light buffet.

To pre-book a table contact Andie Oliver on 07740 088590 or email andieo@btinternet.com

January 2013

We are delighted to annouce that our application for funding to Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund has been successful. We have been awarded the maximum grant of £50,000. We anticipate work will start on the infrastructure project in Summer 2013 and the major building work will take place in Winter 2013/14.

We still need to raise more funds to finance the project so we are planning a major fundraising campaign throughout the summer. Our first event is on 29th March (Good Friday) when Burty’s XI take on Giggsy’s XI in a challenge football match. This will be closely followed on 31st March (Easter Sunday) with a General Knowledge Quiz hosted by Ken Herr in the Pavilion.

Individual and corporate donations are welcome. You can donate online at http://www.justgiving.com/alrewascc or alternatively send a cheque payable to “Alrewas Cricket Club” to Tim Aston at 59 Main Street, Alrewas, Burton upon Trent DE13 7AE with a completed Gift Aid Form 2013. All donations of £50 or more will be recognised by a commemorative brick in our supporters wall which will be built in the new entrance lobby.
