SBTC Junior Tennis Academy (August through May)
Our outstanding Junior Tennis Academy is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6pm during the school year months of August through May. Led by Mickey Yelverton (USPTA Certified, USTA High Performance Coach) and her team, the Academy is for Junior players of all ages and skill levels. Our certified instructors coach to develop fundamentally sound strokes, effective footwork and pattern hitting to set up points. We focus on both the physical and the mental aspect of the game, which teaches the students to be tough and be able to problem solve and shift momentum while playing. We emphasize sportsmanship and above all having fun. Discounts will be provided to SBTC members having two or more children participating.
Academy includes:
Pee Wee Program is for players 6-7 years of age and is designed to introduce children to tennis in a fun and rewarding way.
Level 1 is for the players 8 years and older. This program focuses on the development of fundamentally sound strokes and the basics of the game, including scoring and basic strategy with emphasis on developing good sportsmanship.
Level 2 is for the intermediate player that has a solid foundation of stroke production. The focus moves to live ball hitting which
includes shot selection, ball placement and footwork drills to pull the game
together.
Level 3 is for the more advanced junior players. In
addition to fundamental techniques, players will add advanced skills beyond
hitting to become complete players. This includes serves and returns, along
with the transition game of how and when to close. This level concentrates on
both the mental and physical aspects of the game. Winning is a learned habit!
