Ms. Ryan, Ms. Dooley , Ms. O'Neill and indeed, everyone in our school community is very proud of our 6th Class girls who played a tough and sporting final against Castle Park, Dalkey in the National Basketball Arena on the 21st November. It was very much a game of two halves with Our Lady's dominating the first half and Castle Park coming out on top after playing a great second half.We are very proud of all these girls who have been training weekly and playing league matches since September. Thank you to our wonderful supporters in 5th and 6th Class and to everyone who came along to cheer us on. Well done to Anna-Louise and Lauran who were table officials today for the first time and did a great job.The other girls on the panel will play Mt. Anville next week so best of luck to them!
Well done to our 6th Class girls who played and won their league match against Loreto, Beaufort today. It was a very tight match and we won by two points. The girls showed great spirit and teamwork throughout. These girls will be playing against St. Patrick's National School, Hollypark tomorrow. Wishing them the best of luck and more importantly, hoping they have great fun!
Well done to our 6th Class girls who played Mt. Anville in their first league match. They played a great game and were delighted to win! More importantly, we are delighted that they are getting an opportunity to play, enjoy and learn so much from their new sport. Twenty seven girls in 6th Class play basketball. The other fifteen will be playing their first match against Queen of Angels N.S. in Sandyford next week. Thanks also to Isabel, our table official. Many of the girls will get an opportunity to learn this skill also over the course of the year.
As part of 'International Fairtrade Fortnight', we all took part in a huge fairtrade assembly organised by Ms Sharkey. Fourth class introduced the assembly and spoke about fairtrade. Then pupils from each class presented a selection of their work to the whole school. Infants painted and drew fairtrade logos and some pupils even designed their own. First class designed and coloured in fairtrade fruit baskets with fairtrade fruit only! First and Second class designed fairtrade posters with brilliant slogans. Second and Third class researched fairtrade farming and designed very artistic posters with slogans. Fourth class wrote fairtrade recipes with fairtrade ingredients and made a recipe book! Fifth class researched fairtrade, designed powerpoint presentations and performed very informative dramas on fairtrade. Sixth class researched fairtrade fashion companies and shops that sell fairtrade clothes. Their presentations were most interesting and gave us all lot to think about before we buy again. The assembly concluded with a lovely song composed by Ms. Sharkey entitled.....Ceannaigh agus díol fairtrade! We all really enjoyed the assembly. Remember to look for the fairtrade logo and .....buy fairtrade. Enjoy our fairtrade slideshow. Well done, 5th Class girls, who played in a basketball tournament today and came 2nd. We won three of our four games and the team that beat us only beat us by three baskets! Nine of the players have been training since September 2015 but a further nine had never even played before this! It was a fun learning experience for everyone. Thanks so much to our supporters too. We look forward to playing in the league in September and playing in the 6th Class tournament next year.
