Club Coaches

Northwood has a number of official B.A.of E. badminton coaches, Part I, who are available for any members to help them improve their game and answer any questions relating to badminton, but if you do want to ask any other questions then go right ahead and wait for the colourful responses.

The coaches are Nigel Ball, Eddie Quah, Malcolm Pescod and Asiah Hawes.

Club News and Events

The club AGM has been and gone with the following decisions being made by all those that attended. Many thanks to Alan for the venue.

  • Northwood is staying at Potter Street due to there not being an overwhelming majority to move.
  • The fees for 2002-2003 have been set at £115 Senior and £85 Junior.

Summer club is in full swing now and there are lots of existing members and new guests attending.

17th April 2002 - Northwood Advances to the Semi-Finals of the Middlesex Hybrid Challenge Cup

After knocking out the favourites, Sobell, and then two more strong teams we are slowly advancing towards the final, due to be played around the 12 May. Congratulations to all who have taken part so far.

12th April 2002 - Ostend Invasion

The trip to Ostend was enjoyed all round and hats off to the Belgian player who took the mixed and mens singles titles and showed how to enjoy the game and get a full bucket of sweat out of a T-Shirt whilst also playing very competitively.
Jean and Steve walked away with the mixed doubles title in group C after some close games early on so congratulations to them and they're buying the drinks all round with their winnings.
A good all round break and fun for all which we will be hoping to continue next season with a bit more organisation and less cramped sleeping conditions although some of the blokes said they quite enjoyed it. Rather worrying I'd say.

17th March 2002 - Yuill Cup

This years Yuill cup was won by Asiah Hawes and Malcolm Pescod with Marian Lennon and Saleem Khan runners up. There were some hard fought games and some surprise results with Nigel performing exceptionally in one particular game. Apologies to Mike and Joanna as they turned up a little late for the tournament and once it starts there's no going back. John once again did a super job in organising and herding people around to get the tournament finished within the time we had. Hopefully everyone will be ready for next seasons Yuill cup and will be trying to wrestle it out of my sticky paws as I've had it for four years now and have almost polished it to death.

28th December 2001 - Christmas Raffle

Apologies for the late publishing of these results as I have been away during Christmas. The Christmas raffle was drawn at 19:30 on the 23rd December at NBCs Potter Street venue and the winners are listed below. The event raised £405 for the junior club which will enable many juniors to continue to enjoy the sport whilst receiving free coaching.

  1. £100 - Mike Watters of Hayes.
  2. £75 - Mr Handa of Uxbridge
  3. £50 - Andy Kostynowizc of Acton
  4. Weekday Lunch - Elaine.
  5. Champagne - Margot Wilson of Pinner
  6. £10 - Tracey Jones of Ruislip
  7. £10 - Robert Bridgman of Ruislip
  8. £10 - Paul Hor of Harrow
  9. £10 - Sangita Nanda
  10. £10 - Daniel Carpio of Ruislip

16th December 2001

The Christmas raffle draw has been postponed by one week to allow for the collection of all tickets which have been sold. The draw will now be made on Sunday 23rd December and the results posted here as soon as possible. All winners will be informed.

5th November 2001

Congratulations to Richard Doling, who coached Northwood members during summer (see Club News 2000-01), on making quite an impression at the Hertfordshire County Restricted tournament recently. He walked calmly away with the titles for both mens doubles partnering Adam Skeggs, and the mixed doubles partnering Fiona Perry. Next time he turns up on a club night we should do our best to bring him back down to earth but not with too big a bump. Richard is a club member and will be helping our mens 1st team to advance in the Middlesex league.

The Christmas raffle is now in its initial stages with all members receiving tickets allowing them to practice their hard sell techniques. Nigel seems to be leading the field here as his "buy one or I'll wear my lycra shorts" tactics guarantee success. The proceeds will go towards helping and developing the junior club so sell as many as you can.

In case any club members are not aware, we have a special arrangement with Wembley Sports which allows them to get a large discount on any goods bought when they produce their membership cards. Eddie Quah has more details on what is available and how you can get to try out the rackets etc. before buying them.

12th September 2001

The new season is underway with a number of new members turning up for the first session. The new league fixtures are in place now and can be found under League Fixtures 2001-02 or Match Results 2001-02 at the top of this page.

cnt1sm.jpg (63042 bytes)The County Coaching Course finished just before the season began and all people who attended were literally run off their legs. A good deal of psychological and tactical training was done and will hopefully benefit those who listened and learned.

The photo shows all those attending on the last day so a few lazy souls are missing and a few managed to slink off before the photo was taken. There were about 22 people who attended and most survived intact.
