Club Coaches

Northwood has a number of official B.A.of E. badminton coaches, Part I, who are available for any members to help them improve their game and answer any questions relating to badminton, but if you do want to ask any other questions then go right ahead and wait for the colourful responses.

The main club coaches are Nigel Ball, Eddie Quah, Malcolm Pescod and Joel Barnett.

Ladies Open Day - On the 1st of May

To strengthen our female membership we are opening the club night on the above date to make it free for visiting ladies. A chance for all you girls to play some challenging ladies games for free and get up-to-date on all the gossip (from Nigel and Ed). It will also be a chance for us to try out some of our younger ladies in the club to make sure the older generation can hack getting whupped by them. And Joanna has to defend her position of No 1 lady after winning the Yuill Cup.

Yuill Cup Results

Winners were Diluka and Joanna, runners up were Satheesh and Asiah and in third place Dinuka and Vasi.
As always, Steve our club secretary and John who did a great job of organising the tournament managed to get themselves into the photo.
Top marks to all other competitors who provided a challenging, entertaining event.

Our First Wedding & New Member

Congratulations to Alison and Steve, on the right, who are back recently from their honeymoon. This might also be the only time you see Alison in a dress so enjoy it while you can. I have known Alison for quite a while now and can't think of anyone better for her to marry than Steve, mainly because like me, he's a northerner.

I would also like you to all welcome our newest member, Haini, just to the left, who popped out recently and is just about to start training so she can play in the first team next season. The other photo on the far left will give you an idea of what she will look like when she comes along to the club, minus the stubble, of course. The proud father, Satheesh, is providing the likeness.

Good Results

"At the ICT Tournament (Inter County Tournament) earlier this year, 4 out of the 5 young men representing Middlesex U17 Team were Northwood members. Stand up proud you guys: Robert Kettle, Steven Jacobs, Dominic Divito and Daryl Jacobs. Northwood Badminton Club is being shown how to play and compete at national level by our very talented "junior" contingent. Well done guys."

"Steven Jacobs has been selected to play for Middlesex County at senior level, in Middlesex 3rd team. After a string of gold medals in local, regional and national level tournaments, this accolade is well deserved. He won his first County match, against Hertfordshire, in style.

FOOTNOTE: Not wanting to be left out, Daryl Jacobs, at 15 years old, played in the same senior County match as Steven, as a one-off. And he also won in style."

"When the Going Gets Tough !! . . . Last season was a good one for Northwood Badminton Club. In Hillingdon, 4 out of 5 teams won their divisions, with the 5th team coming a close second. One of those teams (Kane's team) won so convincingly that they were Double Promoted from Div 4 to div 2. In Middlesex both Mens teams were promoted and now play in Divs 3 and 4. And our top Mixed Team came 2nd in Div 2. In Hammersmith Steven Jacob's Mens team won and now play in Div 2 - pretty tough. And Vasi's Ladies 4 team came 2nd but are promoted to Div 2 - again, pretty tough! So now, The Tough Must Get Going !!"

Sri Lanka 2004 Trip

News on the Sri Lanka trip this year is given here in a report by Nigel Ball.

Sri Lanka : We're going back for more in 2004

Would you believe it, but we're sending another batch of young (and old) members over to Sri Lanka so they can run their little legs off and learn as much as they can about badminton while they're doing it. Anyone coming back with a great suntan will be ignored by the rest of us (who's jealous?) and will only demonstrate that they didn't spend enough time training but simply lounged about on the beach. Further details of the upcoming visit are here and important first aid information is here and hotel details are here.

Teams

This season we are playing thirteen teams. If anyone is superstitious then now's the time to leave the club.
Hillingdon : Two mens, two mixed & one ladies.
Hammersmith : One mens & one ladies.
  Hertfordshire : One mens.
Middlesex : Two mens, two mixed & one ladies
