On a fine afternoon we entertained Court Park, running out 111-95 winners. The top rink was Martin, Janice and skip Tim Jones. However the game saw one of the most amazing turnarounds that even Liverpool or Spurs would have been proud of.

At one point being 19-1 down, the team captained by comeback hero Patrick Johnson turned this amazing deficit into a 25-21 victory.

Whether it was something that they really did sneak into the tea because at the halfway stage it looked curtains at 19-5 down, but come back they did for what must be one of the largest margin turnarounds for many a day.

Following another excellent result against Richings Park, a 58 point win margin on Wednesday, the Gerrard Cross team travelled to Iver Heath in good heart and confident mood.

A devious ploy from Iver moving the start from 2-00 to 2-30 gave club captain Alan Price the time he needed to work out a strategic plan. Given that Gerrard Cross have drawn Iver in Top Club, Tony Alcock, Bucks Cup and there’s also the  ‘Friendship Trophy' he was keen to build in a sense of over confidence from the Iver squad.

In a Churchilian style speech he stated that whilst it was a friendly and he hated losing any game but wanted to give Iver a false sense of security. He briefed the rinks skipped by  David Simpson and Margaret Poole to deliver the shots that Iver needed. Looking along the scores and then dropping a 4 or 5 became a necessity for these 2 skips to make sure that Iver won the day.

With winning rinks from Chris Harvey and David Hall and Alan drawing his rink, the plan was executed in fine style!

The play on the green was as sunny as the weather with Gerrard Cross winning all 4 rinks contested, by the considerable margin of 30 points with Micheal Gommes’ triple including Patrick Johnson and Gary Amer claiming top rink.

Birgitte Cochrane made her winning debut for the Club. Assisted and encouraged by Julie Skelly the captain of the day and with Dave Simpson as the skip she was in good hands!
