FENNY BOW OUT OF MORRISON BELL CUP

Underdogs Feniton narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the Morrison Bell Cup when they went down 2-1 to South West Peninsula outfit Sidmouth Town under the lights at Ottery St Mary. Sidmouth edged a very competitve first half and were probably good value for their 2-0 interval lead. The expected floodgates failed to open in the second half as Fenny more than matched The Vikings all over the park although they were indebted to keeper Leon Woodhead who made a couple of outstanding saves. Had Billy Spurway’s headed goal from a corner not been the very last action of the match and come a little earlier they just may have had time to pull off a shock.

RESSIES SEASON ENDS WITH DEFEAT

Feniton Reserves season came to a disappointing finale when they were soundly beaten 4-0 at home by Exmouth Spartans on Bank Holiday Monday. Fenny spurned a golden opportunity to go ahead inside the first minute when they were awarded penalty kick only to see it saved by the visitors keeper. Two clinical finishes put Spartans 2-0 ahead at the break, which they added to 10 minutes into the second period after taking full advantage of  errors in the Fenny defence. Victory was sealed on 78 minutes with a breakaway goal as Fenny pushed men forward in search of a consolation. Small crumb of comfort was with Tipton St John losing their last 2 matches, it meant they finished bottom of the table with Fenny just one place and one point ahead.
