SAHL – Davitts 4-15 St Endas 3-9

The hurlers got back to winning ways with an emphatic and deserved win over St Endas at Boucher Road on Monday night. Both teams battled hard in the first half and the standard of hurling was very high with both teams striking some quality scores. Colm McKee opened our scoring with a long range point which was followed by a St Enda’s equaliser. Stephen McGivern then scored two quick points with the pick following a Canice Mooney sideline cut when he dipped the sliotar and despite being under pressure fired a shot over his shoulder and between the posts. Another St Enda’s point was followed by Stephen McGivern’s third point of the game. We were then rocked when a St Enda’s goal put us behind for the first time in the game.  A Canice Mooney point from a central position 65 metres out was cancelled out by another St Enda’s point. However, Stephen McGivern then took possession of the sliotar and with 50 metres from goal went on a solo run and finished to the back of the net. Our lead was short lived as St Enda’s next attack resulted in a goal. However, the goals kept coming and Stephen McGivern got another to edge us a point in front but again St Enda’s tied the game. We finished the half strongly with points from Sean Prenter and Jordy O’Kane. Half- time score Davitts 2-7 St Endas 2-5.

The first three points of the second half came from well struck 65s with two to St Endas and one from Stephen McGivern. Stephen then added a pointed free with St Endas staying in the game with another point. However, it was at this stage we upped the tempo of our game, striking 2-6 without reply. The scoring started with a high ball into the square, Aaron Slane rose above everyone, took a tremendous high catch and lashed it to the net. Canice Mooney then pointed, before a move down the right hand-side, involving quick hand passing from Stephen McGivern to Aaron Slane and to Colm McKee who finished to the net.  Further points from Sean McIlhatton (0-2), Anthony Rowntree, Aaron Slane, and Stephen McGivern gave us a healthy lead. Credit to St Endas as they never gave up and 1-1 in the dying minutes of the game finished the scoring to leave the final score 4-15 to 3-9.
