2014 Open Day
Buxted Park Bowls Club held a very successful Invitation Day on Sunday with 96 players taking part in an all day competition. Players came from all over Sussex with a few from Surrey. At the end of the day the final of 5 ends was won by Vic Dennis’s Nomads team from Peacehaven beating a team led by Chris Thomas by 9 shots to 2 with the winning team taking 5 shots on the second end which was decisive to the result.
2014 John Crock Trophy
Buxted Park Bowls Club held their John Crock Triples Day on Sunday in a humid atmosphere and the possibility of a thunderstorm looming. Luckily this did not happen and the competition was successfully completed.
The 24 players played 3 matches of 6 ends followed by 2 semi-finals of 5 ends and the final of 3 ends which was won in a nail biting finish by a team of Richard Flower (skip), Betty Keating and Michael Cosham.
The runners up were Darren Coshall (skip), Tom Acus and John Dellar
Sussex County Bowls v London Scottish
Buxted Park Bowls Club hosted a County Match on 3 June at their ground between Sussex County Bowls Club and London Scottish Bowls Club. Despite early morning rain the game went ahead and the green played well and all enjoyed the match which was followed by a meal prepared by the Buxted Park ladies. The result of the match was a convincing win by Sussex County Bowls of 139 shots to London Scottish’s 87 shots. Michelle Gray from Wealden District Council came to see the venue as the Council have given the club a grant of £5000 towards the cost of re-edging the green. This work was completed in the autumn and has much improved the green.
Ladies Day
Buxted Park Bowls Club held their Ladies Day on Sunday 1st June. 48 ladies played 22 ends of bowls. These included "yardstick, reverse positions, jack last and uncentred jack" The winners after a 3 end final by 2 shots to 1 were Eileen Jenkinson, Liz Holloway, Sue Cosham and Dorothy Roberts The runners up of Maureen Spiers, Jenny Lindsay, Margaret Hawkins and Dorothy Glasby After the bowling all enjoy a meal prepared and served by the men
Defibrillator
Buxted Park Bowls Club wish to thank Uckfield Lions for their kind donation of a defibrillator. There was a presentation on Friday at the Clubhouse and a demonstration of its use by First Responder George Moss and his team .
Completion of the Green Refurbishment
Buxted Park Bowls Club wish to thank Wealden District Council for the grant of £5,000 received from their Wealden Community Grants 2013/14 Scheme. This has helped us complete the renewal of the green surrounds ready for the new season. Thanks also to Buxted Parish Council for their grant towards this work

Works are progressing, as these photos show the old edging has now been removed and the new concrete cast edgings are being laid into position

Green refurbishment
The refurbishment of the green edging started today 7 October 2013 with the concrete slabs being removed and also all the old rotten timbers.
We wish to thank Wealden District Council for the grant which has enabled us to go ahead with the project.
Wickers Cup Final 8 September
On Sunday BPBC had the final of the Wickers Cup. This was between a team from West Hoathly of Roy Williams, Chris Lyford, Carol Watson and Glyn Lyford competing against a team from Buxted Park of Jason Walter, Wendy Botfield, Steve Heitzman and Sue Walter.
The away team were quickly into the lead and were soon 10 – 1 up. But the home team managed to fight back and at 19 ends the game was level at 23 all. On the 20th end Buxted managed to take 5 shots which was just too much for West Hoathly to catch. They managed to get 2 on the last end with the home team winning 28 – 25.

Buxted Park Take County Title And Tour
Sue Walter won the Sussex County Women's Bowls Secretaries, Treasurers and Delegates final at Popes Mead on Sunday 18 August.
In the semi-final played in the morning she beat Joan Howson from Burgess Hill in a well fought match. In the afternoon she played the final against Monica Hargrave and won .
On the same day she also played in the semi-final of the Champion of Champions but unfortunately lost.
A party from Buxted Park Bowls Club and neighbouring clubs have just returned from a bowls tour in Gloucester, visiting Painswicke, Nailsworth, Cheltenham and Gloucester Bowls Clubs and returned having won 4 matches, drawn one and lost one.
The club have hosted 2 tourists matches recently, one being Uffculme Tourists from Devon and Co-Op Luton from Bedfordshire. Both matches were played in lovely sunny conditions and enjoyed by all.
Buxted Park Ladies win through to Finals
Sue Walter and Sue Hanlon won the area final of the National 55 and over Ladies Pairs Competition on Monday. They beat Saffron Ladies by 21 shots to 10 and will now travel to Leamington Spa for the finals on weekend of August 2 and 3
They will play a team from Leicestershire in the first round. This is the first time the club have progressed this far.
In the Tom Francis Double Fours the teams have also been successful reaching the Final beating Newick by 1 shot. The final will be on Sunday 28 July at Haywards Heath and Beech Hurst Bowls Club against a team from Henfield.
On Saturday one of the Ladies teams also got through to the semi-finals of the Gladys Rowland competition beating a team from Kingsway Hove on the last end in a very tense match.
Sue Walter has also won through to the semi-finals of the SCWBA Champion of Champions beating Pearl Hathaway by 21 shots to 12. The semi final will be held at Popes Mead on Sunday 18 August.
She is also through to the semi-final of the SCWBA Secretaries, Treasurers and Delegates competition with the semi-final again at Popes Mead on 18 August.

Final's weekend
Buxted Park Bowls Club held their Finals Weekend on Saturday and Sunday 8 & 9 September on a brilliant sunny weekend with the green running very fast due to the dry conditions.

Also held on Sunday morning was the final of the Wickers Trophy which was contested by a team from West Hoathly against a team from Lindfield. This match was very close until the last ends which resulted in a win for Lindfield by 23 shots to 14 shots over 21 ends. This was the first time that Lindfield have won this competition which is organised each year by Buxted Park’s Mick Read.
Triples Day & Air Ambulance Donation
Buxted Park Bowls Club held their John Crock Triples Day on Sunday in beautiful weather.
Before the bowling started a volunteer, John Kenton-Page, from the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance came and was presented with a cheque for £530.00 by Robin Cheal and Peter Kerwin. This money was raised by the Bowls Club and friends from 2 events held at the Club during the winter.
John Kenton-Page gave a short talk on the work involved by the Air Ambulance and the cost of running it.
The 30 players then played 3 matches of 6 ends followed by 2 semi-finals of 5 ends and the final of 3 ends which was won in a nail biting finish by a team of Sue Walter (skip), Jimmy Macintosh and Linda Pugsley by 4 shots to 3.
The runners up were Mick Read (skip), Peter Newton and Eileen Jenkinson.
Sussex Vs. Surrey County Match
Buxted Park Bowls Club hosted a county match between Sussex County Bowls Association and Surrey County Bowls Association.
The match of 6 rinks was played on Thursday 31 May.
The conditions were ideal for playing and the rink was challenging, running very fast and taking a wide swing due to the recent hot and dry weather.
After the match which was won by Sussex with 126 shots to Surrey’s 109, both teams enjoy a hot meal prepared by the club members in the clubhouse.
2012 pre-season
At last the outdoor season is fast approaching.
Buxted Park's pre-season get together is Sunday 1st April 2012 at 7:30pm at the Club House.
Our Open Day will be held on Saturday 21st April at 2:30pm.
If you are interested in learning to bowl come along, and learn. Club members will be on hand to talk to you about the game they love and you can have a go (flat shoes, i.e. trainers etc are all you need) we will provide the rest.

Isle of Wight Tour
Buxted Park have just returned from a week’s tour of the Isle of Wight. Matches were played at Camphill, Totland Bay, Newport, Sandown and Shanklin.
Sussex Vs. Kent County Match
Buxted Park Bowls Club hosted a county match between Sussex County Bowling Association and Kent County Bowling Association on Wednesday 3 August 2011.
The match was played on a very fast green and on one of the hottest days of the year. The result was a victory by Kent who won by 130 shots to 96.
After the match both teams and visitors all enjoyed a meal at the Clubhouse.
Invitation Day
Buxted Park held their Invitation Day on Sunday 31 July 2011 in glorious sunshine.
The winning team was from Woodingdean consisting of Stef Michael, Ann Robshaw, Gloria Michael and Bob Gooding seen here with Chairman John Hickey.
The runners up were Peter Flint, Jill Flint, Jennifer Gleaves and Peter Gleaves.
Malcolm Porter
Sadly Malcolm Porter died suddenly on Saturday 16 July 2011. The service for the celebration of his life was held at Eastbourne Crematorium on Monday 1st August 2011. Malcolm was a member of our club for about 10 years and was also a coach. Our thoughts are with his widow Jean and her family.
SCBA Past Presidents Day
Buxted Park Bowls Club hosted the SCBC Past Presidents day on Monday 27 June 2011.
The match way played in glorious sunshine and everyone enjoyed the day on a fast running green.
Sussex Vs. Surrey
Buxted Park Bowls Club hosted a County match between Sussex County Bowls Association and Surrey County Bowls Association on Thursday 3 June 2010.
The match was played in glorious weather and the green was in good condition, running very fast and the result was a win for Sussex by 12 shots.
The rink results are M Fuller 19 M Haigh 17, J Frew 27 J Scott 18, V Evans 16 J Ingham 21, R Sedgewick 28 F Dodd 20, D Lindsay 25 J Mason17, S Perris 14 D Miller 24.
