Where and when does the club play?

We play at the Watford Leisure Centre (Central) on Monday evenings, with the exception of Bank holidays when the leisure centre is closed. Club sessions run from 6.30pm to 8.25pm in the sports hall.

Is there parking at the leisure centre?

There is limited free car parking at the centre, although it can be very busy around 7pm. There is also a pay and display car park opposite the centre. Alternatively, there are bus routes 318 and 500 (bus stop Town Hall – stop W) nearby, and Watford Junction station is approximately a 15 minutes walk to the centre.

Do I have to join Watford Leisure Centre?

You do not require leisure centre membership to play for Shuttles badminton club. Please do contact us and we’ll explain how to find us in the sports hall.

Do I need to play at a required standard to join?

To provide a healthy balance of competition and fun, members must play at a reasonable (intermediate) standard. If you are a beginner, you may wish to play with other players of similar ability to get some experience before joining a club. Badminton England offer no strings sessions for all abilities.

How do I join the club?

Send us an email to arrange visiting the club at the next available session. After the session, if you’re keen to join we’ll give you more details about club membership.

How much does it cost to join the club?

Membership is £45 per quarter. We do not offer a monthly or pay-as-you-go option.

What if I’ve paid for membership but miss sessions?

Your membership entitles you to all club sessions within the present quarter. However there are no refunds for missed sessions.

Do you offer free taster sessions?

Yes! You can find out more information about our free sessions on our website, or on our Facebook page.

How many courts do you play on?

Depending on numbers, the club will usually have between 3-4 courts per session. We play doubles, so It’s likely you’ll play at least 5 games per session, possibly more!

Does the club play in a league or tournament?

The club runs an annual doubles tournament played over a number of club sessions. Trophies are awarded to the winners at the club’s social events.

How many members does the club have?

The club has over 20 members at the moment, although there is a limit of 40 members at present. If you are interested in joining, please do contact us.

Do you provide coaching?

At present, we do not offer coaching sessions. However, we are always more than happy to provide advice if you wish!
