Newcastle Vipers winger Patrik Forsbaka has walked out of the club following Sunday's 5-4 win at Coventry.

Forsbacka, 28, joined Vipers in September and scored 12 goals in 20 appearances for the club.

"Forsbacka contacted the GM by email on Monday while he was in the League Board meeting to advise he had an opportunity elsewhere," a club spokesman said.

"He'd not spoken to the coach, booked his own flight and left the UK on Tuesday. This came about by surprise."

The spokesman continued: "We of course thank him for his efforts in a Newcastle shirt, and he left on a high note having scored three times in Coventry in his last game.

"Everyone at the Vipers wishes him well in whatever he does next."

The management have spoken to all players on Tuesday after the board meeting and everyone is staying and is committed to the club.

The Finnish winger is the second of Vipers' summer imports to leave the club, following Jamie Carroll's switch to the East Coast Hockey League in the United States.

"Jaimie Longmuir and Danny Stewart must now concentrate on the players who are still here, and work to add to the roster," added the spokesman.

"The management have spoken to all players on Tuesday after the board meeting and everyone is staying and is committed to the club.

"The players are pleased the short-term future has been secured and are focused on maintaining the eighth place to make the play-offs."

Meanwhile, the Vipers are hopeful of securing paperwork for Northern Stars quartet Andy Finn, Matt Sellers, Daniel Pye and Callum Davies ahead of the weekend double-header with Braehead Clan.
