Farmers Jam for 10th year running
Freestyle skiing at Norfolk Ski Club
How much 'air' can you get from the ski slope?

Freestyle snowboarders and skiers will be jumping, grinding and spinning as part of the annual Farmers Jam at Norfolk Ski Club.

Competitors from all over the country will flock to the slope in Norwich to try and win the prestigious title.

"We have prizes for big air, riding the rails and for people who have tried the hardest," said Deborah Anstee, manager of Norfolk dry ski slope.

Spectators go in free and there are opportunities to try snowboarding.

The Farmers Jam started approximately 10 years ago when a few of the regular freestylers decided to have a competition between them and it's grown from there.

"As time went on it started to get bigger and people from other slopes started to come along," said Deborah.

"Gradually word spread and now people from all over the UK are coming down for the event," she added.

Lottery grant

After receiving a lottery grant in 2004, the ski slope developed and improved their facilities, which now includes a fun park for freestylers.

"We've got a big kicker, which will throw competitors into the air, they'll perform some sort of trick and land safely," said Deborah.

The event will also be attended by two snow sport experts.

"It's being MC'd by Pat Sharples, a former international freestyle and moguls [snow sport discipline] winner.

"One of the judges is Martin Car from Snowsports England, the governing body for snow sports in England - it really is a big deal," said Deborah.

The Farmers Jam takes place at Norfolk Ski Club in Norwich, from Friday, 28 to Sunday, 30 August, 2009. Parking and entry is free, competitors are charged £30.
