This unexplained tragedy took place on 13th August 1907. It was the culmination of a traumatic period for the family of Rev. Henry de Beltgens Gibbins. The gruesome remains of a body were discovered by a foreman plate-layer named James Russell, as he walked through Thackley tunnel.
