Description

A HINGE SYSTEM FOR MOUNTING A TOSLET SEAT AND COVER ASSEMBLY IN A MOUNTING
HOLE ON THE SURFACE OF A TOILET
Subject of the invention
The subject of the invention relates to a hinge system, which is developed to enable easy mounting of the toilet seat and cover assembly in a mounting hole on the toilet and easy demounting of said toilet seat and cover assembly,
State of the Art
According to the state of the art, the toilet seat and cover assembly is mounted in a mounting hole on a toilet with the help of a hinge system comprising at least one damper body, at least one fixing member, at least one pin, at least one anti-slip gasket and at least one metal washer. As can be seen in Figure 1, the damper body (1) fits over the pin (2) and is fixed by way of tightening the fixing member (5) that is positioned into the fixing member slot (la) on said damper body. The fixing member (5) is also secured in the fixing member slot (2a) on the pin (2). The pin (2) is positioned by way of being passed through at least one washer (3) and at least one anti-slip gasket (4), which is positioned under the washer and which is in contact with the toilet surface. The washer comprises thereon the pin slot (3a) where the pin is to be positioned and the anti-slip gasket (4) comprises thereon the slot (4a) where the pin is to be positioned. The pin (2) passes through said slots. When it is desired to demount the toilet seat and cover assembly from the mounting hole on the toilet bowl, the fixing member (5) is loosened, with the help of an alien wrench for instance, to disconnect the damper body (1) from the pin (2), and thus, it becomes possible to remove the seat and cover assembly from its position. Figure 2, Figure 3a and Figure 3b show the component parts in mounted state, and Figure 4a and Figure 4b show the toilet seat and cover assembly mounted in the mounting hole on the toilet by means of the hinge system used according to the state of the art. However, when the hinge system according to the state of the art is employed, the space between the wall or cistern and the hinge is limited in the rear region of the cover; hence the procedure of tightening or loosening the fixing member with an alien wrench and thus the mounting and demounting procedure for the hinge system may not be performed easily. In addition, due to the mounting space (12a) between the pin (2) and the mounting hole (12) on the toilet where the seat and cover assembly (14) is to be positioned, it is not possible to easily perform, during the mounting, the axial alignment of the seat and cover assembly with the mounting hole (12) to ensure a mounting fully compatible with the toilet bowl.
The hinge system according to the invention has been developed as a solution for the problems mentioned above. By means of the hinge system developed within the scope of the invention, the mounting of the seat and cover assembly may be readily performed on the toilet bowl surface.
Object of the Invention
The object of the invention is to develop a hinge system to enable the easy mounting of the toilet seat and cover assembly in the mounting hole on the toilet and the easy demounting of the toilet seat and cover assembly.

Detailed Description of the Invention
The subject of the invention relates to a hinge system, which is developed to enable easy mounting of the toilet seat and cover assembly in a mounting hole on the toilet and easy demounting of said toilet seat and cover assembly.
The hinge system developed within the scope of the invention comprises at least one damper body (6), at least one o-ring (7), at least one pin (8), at least one bearing piece (9) and at least one anti-slip gasket (10). Said component parts can be seen in Figure 5a and Figure 5b. The component parts in a stated fitted together can be seen in Figure 6a, Figure 6b and Figure 6c.
The pin (8) comprises at least one slot (8a) on which at least one o-ring (7} is to be positioned. Two o-rings (7) will be positioned on the pin according to the preferred use wherein there are two slots (8a) on the pin availabie for said o-rings. However, the possibility for a greater number of the same is encompassed by the invention. The pin (8) comprises the pin bearing surface (8b), which enables said pin to be positioned in the bearing piece (9).
The damper body (6) comprises at least one pin slot (6a) for enabling the pin to be engaged in the body, at least one neck region (6b) where the body is positioned in the bearing piece (9) and at least one damper body bearing surface (6c) for enabling the body to be seated on the inner surface of the bearing piece (9). At least one damper (11) is positioned in the damper body.
The bearing piece (9) comprises the circular openings in the upper and lower sections thereof wherein said openings constitute an upper slot (9a) and a lower slot (9e). It is possible for the upper and lower slots to have various geometric shapes and forms. The bearing piece (9) comprises at least one neck region (9b) where it is fixed in the mounting hole (12) on the toilet surface (13). Said damper body (6) is positioned at the inner part of the neck region (9b) via the neck region (6b). The pin (8) is passed through both the upper slot (9a) and the lower slot (9e) and is positioned in the bearing piece (9). The damper body (6) enters, via the neck region (6b), the upper slot (9a) and is secured on the inner surface of the neck region (9b) of the bearing piece (9) in a way to enclose the pin (8). The bearing piece (9) comprises at least one seating face (9c), in which it contacts the surface of the anti- slip gasket (10) position in the section below said piece, and at least one inner bearing surface (9d) where the pin (8) and the damper body (6) are to be positioned. Said bearing piece is positioned on the inner bearing surface (9d) by means of the pin bearing surface (8b). The damper body (6) is positioned on the bearing piece inner bearing surface (9d) via the damper body bearing surface (6c). Said anti-slip gasket (10) is positioned on the lower section of the bearing piece (9) in a way to contact the surface of the toilet. The bearing piece (9) is positioned via the seating face (9c) on the surface of the anti-slip gasket (10), The anti-slip gasket (10) contacts the bearing piece seating face (9c) from the top side and contacts the toilet surface (13) from the bottom side. The anti-slip gasket (10) comprises at least one bearing piece slot (10a) where the bearing piece (9) is to be positioned. The bearing piece neck region (9b) passes through the bearing piece slot (10a) on the anti-slip gasket and is positioned in the mounting hole (12) on the toilet surface (13).
By the use of the hinge system developed within the scope of the invention, the toilet seat and cover assembly (14) may be readily mounted in the mounting hole (12) on the toilet surface without using any fixing member (5). As a result, the difficulty encountered in the state of the art in the procedure of centering the toilet seat and cover assembly (14) in the mounting hole (12) due to the necessity to tighten or loosen the fixing member in a confined space and due to the confined mounting space is eliminated.
In the hinge system developed within the scope of the invention, the damper body (6) may be easily mounted on the pin (8) and on the inner surface of the neck region (9b) of the bearing piece (9) owing to the o-rings (7) present on the pin (8), without having to use any fixing member (5), and the demounting procedure for the same may likewise be easily performed. The pin (8) passes through the pin slot (6a) on the damper body (6) and is positioned in the damper body. The o-rings (7) employed within the scope of the invention stretch to enable the pin (8) to be secured to the damper body (6). The securing effect is achieved owing to the stretching and shrinking action of the o-rings (7).
The toilet seat and cover assembly (14) in a state mounted in the mounting hole (12) on the toilet surface by the use of the hinge system according to the invention can be seen in Figure 7a and Figure 7b. The pin (8) is passed through the upper and lower slots (9a, 9e) on the bearing piece with o-rings positioned in the o-ring slots (8a) on said pin and the bearing piece is in turn passed through the bearing piece slot (10a) on the anti-slip gasket. In this way, these components are secured in the mounting hole (12) upon the bearing piece neck region (9b) penetrating the mounting hole (12) on the toilet surface (13). After the damper body (6), in which the damper (11) has been positioned, is placed in its slot on the toilet seat and cover assembly (14), the damper body neck region (6b) is fitted on the pin (8) present on the inner surface of the bearing piece neck region (9b); in other words, it is positioned in such a way to ensure that the pin (8) is fixed in the pin slot (6a) on the damper body. The pin (8) is fixed to the damper body (6) owing to the o-rings (7) on said pin. Sn the hinge system with completed mounting, the pin (8) is positioned in a state passed, from the bottom side thereof, through the lower slot (9e) on the bearing piece. And the bearing piece (9) is positioned in a state passed, via the neck region (9b), through the bearing piece slot (10a) on the anti-slip gasket (10). As can be seen in Figure 7a and Figure 7b, the anti-slip gasket (10) is positioned in the lower section of the bearing piece (9) in a way that it will contact the toilet surface (13). The bearing piece neck region (9b), having passed through the bearing piece slot (10a) on the anti-slip gasket (10), penetrates and is fixed in the mounting hole (12). The damper body is positioned, via the neck region (6b), at the inner part of the bearing piece neck region (9b). The pin (8) is fixed in the pin slot (6a) within the damper body.
The diameter (A) of the mounting hole on the toilet surface where the toilet seat and cover assembly (14) is mounted, seen in Figure 12, is about 0 15 (15 mm) and the diameter (B) of the neck region (9b) of the bearing piece penetrating the mounting hole (12), seen in Figure 13, is about 0 11 (11 mm).
In the present state, in case the diameter size of the mounting hole (12) on the toilet surface is changed, i.e. in case the mounting hole diameter (A) is greater than 15 mm, the use is possible by positioning a third o-ring on the neck region outer surface (6d) of the damper body (6), i.e. on the surface of the damper body (6) in contact with the inner surface of the bearing piece neck region (9b) in the system developed within the scope of the invention, as seen in Figure 14. Figure 15 shows another embodiment of the hinge system according to the invention valid for the same case, i.e. for the case where the mounting hole diameter (A) is greater than 15 mm, wherein it is possible to use the hinge system according to the invention just by positioning an o-ring on the neck region outer surface (6d) of the damper body fixed in the bearing piece neck region (9b), without using any o-ring on the pin (8). In this case, it will be possible to secure the pin (8) in the damper body (6) by the use of any method.
When it was desired to use the system according to the state of the art by positioning an o- ring on the pin (2), it was observed that the stroke length (15a) for the fitting of the pin (2) in the damper body (1) was inadequate and that the toilet seat and cover assembly (14) moved and dislocated. Consequently, the hinge system according to the invention has been developed. Further, although it is attempted to solve the mentioned problem by employing an increase in the damper body height (16) in the existing system, such an increase in the damper body height (16) causes the rear portion of the toilet seat and cover assembly to rise, thereby leading to an inclined position.
In the hinge system developed within the scope of the invention, the use is made of the bearing piece (9) and the height of the mounting hole (12) present on the toilet surface in order to increase the stroke length (15b) for the fitting of the pin (8) in the damper body (6), thereby preventing the movement and dislocation of the toilet seat and cover assembly (14). Furthermore, the difficulty encountered in the state of the art in the axial alignment of the toilet seat and cover assembly (14) due to the mounting space (12a) during the mounting of the toilet seat and cover assembly (14) is resolved with the bearing piece (9) employed and the mounting is rendered a procedure that is easier to perform.
Owing to the hinge system according to the invention, the toilet seat and cover assembly is enabled to be mounted in the mounting hole on the toilet surface without using any fixing member.
