Description
Method and transmission arrangement for forwarding of media
The invention relates to a method and a transmission arrangement for forwarding of media according to the preambles of the independent claims related thereto.
Today it is known to transmit video presentations from a server to one's personal computer or mobile phone via internet (YouTube) . In this case, the chosen presentation downloads first on the user's device before being started on the device. On the other hand it is known to have phone conversations or video conferences via the internet (e.g. Skype or Messenger) , when, in order to enable participating, all participants must have the same program in use and, especially when using a mobile phone, a contract with the service provider.
In the application publication EP 2056598 is further presented a method, by which media may be transmitted via a transmission arrangement from the media source to the user's mobile device. In this solution, media is first downloaded on the transmission arrangement, from where it may be streamed to the user's mobile device via internet. For this to work, the user must be connected to a web server, from where the user's commands go to the transmission arrangement. An operating system validates the download of the program and informs when this is finished. The transmission arrangement knows how to change the transmission speed and to interrupt the download, if the user's mobile device needs resources for other tasks.
Furthermore, on the other hand, a transmission arrangement e.g. for transmitting A/V-media that works via internet or a local area network is known from the international application publication WO 2010/120972. The transmission arrangement notifies e.g. a chosen
group/user, when an A/V-program is downloaded and ready to be retrieved. In this case, the node used in the transmission of media connects to the transmission arrangement, when, on the other hand, the remote control used in the transmission connects respectively with the media device. In this case, in order to establish the connection, the user has to have a contract of use with the node transmitting the transmission. When the user wants to watch e.g. some desired program, the node establishes a point to point
(p2p) connection between the transmission arrangement and the media device.
Regardless of the technology used at present, there are no media transmission arrangements available today that would be simple enough and would work e.g. without a prior consumership especially for enabling A/V transmission in a way that an A/V media program started at a specific location could be transmitted in real time from the media source to the user's device that is connected to the media source via remote access, making possible watching e.g. a cable or satellite program that may be watched at home without the same equipment e.g. essentially simultaneously with the actual television program at a summer cabin.
It is an aim of the present invention to achieve a decisive improvement in the problems described above and thus to raise essentially the level of prior art. In order to carry out this aim, the method and transmission arrangement according to the invention are mainly characterized by what has been presented in the characterizing parts of the independent claims related thereto .
As the most important advantages of the method and apparatus according to the invention may be mentioned simplicity and efficiency of practical implementations
and executions of the same especially thanks to the fact that the user does not need to acquire necessary transmission programs to his/her devices or establish consumerships to different service providers. As an advantageous embodiment of the invention, a mobile phone network is used, in which case, at simplest, the user's mobile phone or a so called smartphone equipped with a video call feature may be used as the user's data processing device in the transmission of A/V media as the user controls the transmission arrangement with his/her mobile phone's number keys, when the audio signals or the like are transformed by a sound detector, such as a DTMF-module or the like, which is used as the control unit of the transmission arrangement, first in order to choose the media device and second to use/control the program chosen to be shown on the user's mobile phone or by using the mobile phone as a medium to present the program in some media device connected to the same.
By means of the invention it is therefore possible to make the exploiting of A/V media simpler and more diverse in a way that the user can watch the same subscriptions with e.g. satellite antenna or cable channel television programs or recordings in so called real time in what ever location. In utilization of the invention it is also possible to use the internet in a way that e.g. a so called video call function ( Skype/Messenger or the like) is used in the transmission of A/V media especially in locations where there is no mobile phone network connection or where it is weak.
Other advantageous embodiments of the method and apparatus according to the present invention have been presented in the dependent claims related thereto .
In the following description the invention is being illustrated in detail with reference to the appended drawings, in which: in figure 1
is shown as an advantageous embodiment a principle diagram of the general operating principle of the invention, in figure 2
is furthermore shown a more detailed block diagram of an advantageous implementation of the invention, in figure 3
is furthermore shown an alternative or complementing implementation with respect to figure 2, and in figure 4
is furthermore shown a principle block diagram of a certain transmission arrangement being used in the method according to the invention.
The invention relates first of all to a method for forwarding of media, whereby the meaning of the method is particularly forwarding A/V-media through an electronic data transmission channel by using a transmission arrangement between a media producing/forwarding device MD and a user data processing device, the above devices being remotely connected with each other. The transmission arrangement comprises at least:
- a data processing unit, such as a microprocessor 0 and/or a user interface UI or the like,
- a control unit 1 for controlling/using the media device MD, and
- sound and image processing means 2, such as an A/V- input/output interface 2a and a sound and/or image processing unit 2b or the like, in order to transform the A/V-media being forwarded from the media device MD when needed to a format of the data transmission channel being used in the forwarding of the media. The forwarding of the A/V-media to the user's data processing device is being carried out essentially in real time from one or several media devices MD, such as a television, a digital receiver, a DVD-device and/or like, whereby the user is using first of all a data processing device provided with a functioning enabling bidirectional A/V-communication, and second of all the transmission arrangement X comprising a communication unit 3 that makes possible an external connection therewith .
As an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention the user contacts the communication unit X ; 3 of the transmission arrangement by his/her data processing device, whereby after getting contact he/she controls the control unit X ; 1 of the transmission arrangement by his/her data processing device in order to choose/use any given media device MD he/she desires. At this time, after starting the chosen
A/V-media from the media device MD, the media is being transferred by the sound and image processing means X ; 2 of the transmission arrangement through the communication unit 3 of the transmission arrangement to the user's data processing device UDx, in order to enable listening/watching of the forwarded A/V-media essentially simultaneously on the device's loud speaker/display and/or by transmission thereof. As a particularly advantageous embodiment especially with reference to figure 1, in the forwarding of the A/V-media, a mobile phone network, such as NMT- , GSM- , GPRS-, 3G-, 4G-net and/or like is being exploited at
least partly as the data transmission channel, and a corresponding communication module as the communication unit X; 3 of the transmission arrangement. As an alternative or complementing embodiment to the above internet, intranet and/or modem connection may be utilized, such as by exploiting video call principle or in a corresponding manner, by using a LAN-, WLAN-card or the like as the communication unit X; 3. In this way transmission of A/V-media is made possible especially in locations where there is no mobile phone network or where it is weak. In this context, a forwarding arrangement implementation is as shown in figure 3 needed, in which case the transmission arrangement is provided with a sufficient processing capacity, such as a memory and utilization software in order to enable the remote control made by the user's data processing device by downloading media also to a memory unit M in the transmission arrangement when necessary. In this context, as a further advantageous embodiment particularly with reference to figure 4, in the forwarding of the A/V-media, a mobile phone or the like, being provided with a video call characteristic VC, is being exploited as the user's data processing device UDx, whereby the user controls the transmission arrangement X by the number keypad n of the mobile phone, in which case voice signals, being generated by pressing the keypad, are being transformed by a voice recognizer la, such as a DTMF (dual-tone-multi- frequency) module or the like, acting as the control unit X; 1 of the transmission arrangement.
In this case, as a further advantageous embodiment the media device MD is being controlled by the sound and image processing means X; 2 of the transmission arrangement on remote control principle wirelessly, such as by a radio frequency, optically and/or in a corresponding manner operated remote controller (lb) .
Naturally, it is also possible to forward the control e.g. through a direct I/O-channel.
Furthermore, as an advantageous embodiment of the method the forwarded A/V-media is being transferred to an external device, such as a television, a computer, a display or the like, being coupled in a data transmitting manner with the video-output VO interface of the user's data processing device Udx.
The invention also relates to a transmission arrangement for forwarding of media, for forwarding A/V-media between a media producing/forwarding device MD and a user data processing device, the above devices being remotely connected with each other, whereby the transmission arrangement comprises at least:
- a data processing unit, such as a microprocessor 0 and/or a user interface UI or like,
- a control unit 1 for controlling/using the media device MD,
- sound and image processing means 2, such as an A/V- input/output interface 2a and a sound and/or image processing unit 2b or the like, in order to transform the A/V-media being forwarded from the media device MD when needed to a format of the data transmission channel being used in the forwarding of the media. The transmission arrangement comprises a communication unit 3, such as a NMT-, GSM- , GPRS-, 3G-, 4G-module, LAN- , WLAN-card and/or the like, that makes possible an external connection therewith for forwarding the A/V- media essentially in real time from one or several media devices MD, such as a television, a digital receiver, a DVD-device and/or the like, to the user's data processing device, being provided with a functioning enabling bidirectional A/V-communication at least partly via a mobile phone network and/or an intranet-, internet-, and/or a modem connection.
The transmission of A/V-media is arranged as an advantageous embodiment by using as the user's data processing device UDx in the use of the transmission arrangement a mobile phone or the like that is provided with a video call characteristic VC, whereby the control unit X; 1 of the transmission arrangement comprises a voice recognizer la, such as a DTMF (dual- tone-multi-frequency) module or like, for controlling the media device by transforming voice signals, being generated by pressing the number keypad n of the mobile phone, and by transferring the same by the sound and image processing means X; 2 of the transmission arrangement on remote control principle wirelessly, such as by a radio frequency, optically and/or in a corresponding manner operated remote controller lb, and/or through a direct I/O-channel further to the media device D.
As a further advantageous embodiment it is arranged on the principle shown in figure 1 as an essentially built-in entirety MDX together with the media device MD.
It is clear that the invention is not limited to the embodiments shown or described above, but instead it can be modified in various ways within the limits of the basic idea of the invention by using services that are as such in general use, such as Skype, Messenger, Google plus or other corresponding services, when working of the transmission arrangement may be ensured also partly via internet when the quality of the mobile phone network is insufficient or weak.
