Description

ARRESTING DEVICE FOR VENETIAN BLIND CORD
Technical field
The present invention relates to an arresting device for at least one Venetian blind cord according to the preamble of claim 1. Background
A Venetian blind comprising a number of Venetian blind slats can be mounted for example between two window panes of a window with several panes, inside of an inner window pane of a one-pane or multi-pane window, or outside an outer window pane of a one-pane or multi- pane window. The Venetian blind slats of the Venetian blind are generally adjustable both in the vertical direction and by that they can be angularly adjusted around their longitudinal axis. Adjustment in the vertical direction can for example happen by that the Venetian blind slats can be raised and lowered, respectively, using at least one cord in order to in that way obtain free sight out through the window or to at least partially block the view through the window, respectively, or to enable or to block solar incident radiation through the window,
respectively, where the degree of possible view or solar incident radiation through the window in the lowered position of the Venetian blind slats depends on to what degree the Venetian blind slats are angled around their longitudinal axis. Usually the Venetian blind slats can be controlled in the vertical direction with at least one cord each arranged on either end of the Venetian blind package which cords are fastened to the bottommost Venetian blind slat, so that one by adjusting both cords equally can raise and lower, respectively, the Venetian blind slats equally at their both ends. It is also common that the Venetian blind slats can be angled using for example a cord or a rod.
A common solution for fastening the Venetian blind at its completely raised position or at a position between the completely raised position and the completely lowered position is that at the inside of the window arranged with a Venetian blind is arranged a from the window frame protruding fastening element such as for example a coil also called a cord lock around which the Venetian blind cord can be wrapped and thereby locked after one has adjusted the Venetian blind slats to a desired height and or angular position using the cords for the Venetian blind.

EP 0193 696 A2 shows a device for holding a Venetian blind cord where the cord instead of being wound around the device is passed through a hole at a body part and through a hole of a movable part arranged at the body part which parts are pushed apart using a spring whereby the cord is jammed between these parts, where the cord can be released by pushing the movable part against the spring force.
Summary of the invention
The problem of to fasten and to release at least one Venetian blind cord is solved according to the invention by an arresting device according to the characterizing portion of claim 1.
By that an arresting device with a housing and an operating element according to claim 1 comprises the features that the housing is arranged with a slit and the operating element is arranged with a recess which slit and which recess extend essentially transversally to the direction of movement of the operating element within the housing, where the slit and the recess are arranged to be able to be set so that they border on each other and where a stretched Venetian blind cord is arranged to be able to be introduced from the outside of the housing transversally to its extension via the slit into the recess, the advantage of that it is possible to quickly fasten and release the Venetian blind cord from the arresting device with a minimum of wear on the Venetian blind cord is attained. Further is also attained the advantage of that one quickly and easily can substitute existing devices for holding of cords for Venetian blinds with the inventive arresting device for cords for Venetian blinds by removing the existing holding device, to fix the inventive arresting device, and to thereafter easily place the Venetian blind cord at this.

Figure 1 shows schematically a cross-section of an arresting device 2 for at least one Venetian blind cord 4 according to a first embodiment of the invention, where the arresting device 2 comprises a housing 6 and a at least partly inside the housing 6 arranged operating element 8. The operating element 8 is arranged to be able to be displaced in a reciprocating motion inside the housing 6. The arresting device 2 further comprises a resilient element 10, such as for example a helical spring, arranged between the housing 6 and the operating element 8, where the resilient element 10 is arranged to exert a parting force F between the housing 6 and the operating element 8. In order for the parting force F not to separate the operating element 8 from the housing 6 these are each arranged with at least one with each other cooperating protruding part 12, 14 that limit the movement of the operating element 8 inside the housing 6 in a direction and where further the resilient element 10 limits the movement of the operating element 8 inside the housing 6 in the opposite direction. At assembly of the operating element 8 and the housing 6, one end 16 of the operating element can be pushed into an opening 18 at the housing 6 whereby the protruding parts 12, 14 are so flexibly arranged so that they can be forced apart until they reach their cooperating position. The housing 6 is arranged with a chamber 20 which preferably is essentially cylindrical at least between its bottom 22 and the above mentioned protruding part 12. Inside the chamber 20 is further a part 24 of the operating element 8 with preferably essentially cylindrical envelope surface arranged to be displaced in a reciprocating motion. The resilient element 10 is arranged to abut against the part 24 of the operating element 8 which is facing the resilient element 10 and the bottom 22 of the at the housing 6 arranged chamber 20. The part 24 of the operating element 8 which is facing the resilient element 10 is preferably also arranged with a chamber 26 within which the resilient element 10 can be received. The housing 6 is further at its wall 28 arranged with a slit 30 which extends essentially transversally to the direction of movement A of the operating element 8 within the housing 6, via which slit 30 the chamber 20 can be reached from the outside of the housing 6. The operating element 8 is furthermore arranged with a recess 32 which also this extends essentially transversally to the movement direction A of the operating element 8 within the housing 6. The slit 30 at the housing 6 and the recess 32 at the operating element 8 are arranged to be able to be set so that they border on each other by pushing in the operating element 8 within the chamber 20 of the housing 6 against the force F which is exerted by the resilient element 10 whereby a stretched Venetian blind cord 4 is arranged to be able to be introduced from the outside of the housing 6 transversally to its extension B via the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and into the recess 32 at the operating element 8. When the operating element 8 is again released the force F which is exerted by the resilient element 10 will push apart the housing 6 and the operating element 8 whereby the Venetian blind cord 4 is jammed between the housing 6 and the operating element 8, more precisely between the edge of the slit 30 at the housing 6 and the edge of the recess 32 at the operating element 8. In order to prevent that the Venetian blind cord 4 slides out from the recess 32 when the operating element 8 is disengaged, for example when one desires to lower the Venetian blind slats slowly by only slightly pushing down the operating element 8 a bit, die recess 32 is preferably designed narrower at the part which is arranged to border on the outermost part 64 of the slit 30 at the housing 6 and broader at the parts that are arranged to border on the inner parts 65 of the slit 30 at the housing 6 whereby the operating element 8 shows a protrusion 34 which detains the Venetian blind cord 4 within the recess 32. The slit 30 and the recess 32, respectively, are arranged with such extension and such depth, respectively, that a stretched part of a Venetian blind cord 4 can be introduced from the outside of the housing 6 transversally to its extension B via the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and into the recess 32 at the operating element when the operating element 8 is pushed in within the chamber 20 of the housing and can be detained there when the operating element 8 is released whereby the Venetian blind cord 4 is jammed and arrested.
In the case the chamber 20 of the housing is essentially cylindrical, preferably at least one guide 36, 38 is arranged at the arresting device 2, this preferably in the form of at least one guide groove 40, 42 and a protruding guide part 44, 46, respectively, arranged on the housing 6 and on the operating element 8, respectively, or the reverse, where at least the groove 40, 42 extends along the movement direction A of the operating element 8 which also applies for the protruding part 44, 46 if this is arranged elongated, in order to in that way prevent that the operating element 8 rotates relative to the housing 6.
At the bottom of the housing 6 is preferably arranged at least one opening 48 for at least one fastening element 50 with which the housing 6 can be fastened to a fastening surface 52 such as for example a window frame. In order to prevent rotation of the housing 6 around the fastening element 50 in case for example where only one screw is used as fastening element, at least one protruding element 54 is preferably arranged on die outside of the bottom of the housing 6 which element 54 is arranged to be forced into the fastening surface 52 at the fixing. In the case a helical spring is used as resilient element 10, the fastening element 50 or a protrusion of the housing 6 is preferably arranged to protrude from the bottom 22 of the chamber 20 whereby one end of the helical spring can be arranged around this, or optionally the bottom of the housing 6 is arranged with a depression at which one end of the helical spring can be placed. I corresponding way, the other end of the helical spring can be arranged around a corresponding protrusion of the operating element 8, or optionally at a chamber 26 at the operating element 8. In this way, tilting of the helical spring within the chamber 20 can be prevented.
The operating element 8 is at its end 56 opposite to the resilient element 10 preferably arranged with a push element 58 such as a button which can be arranged either in one piece with the operating element 8 or be a separate part and in that way be exchangeable when required. In any case, the push element 58 can be adapted according to requirements, for example by making it of soft material, hard material, with large diameter, of phosphorescent material, etc.
By pushing in the operating element 8 only a short distance when a Venetian blind cord 4 is situated within the recess 32 at the operating element 8 one can lower the Venetian blind steplessly to the desired position. By that it is possible to detach the Venetian blind cord 4 from the arresting device when one is to raise or lower the Venetian blind this can take place quickly and with a minimum of wear on the Venetian blind cord. In addition, one can quickly and easily substitute existing devices for holding of cords for Venetian blinds with the inventive arresting device for cords for Venetian blinds by removing the existing holding device, to fix the inventive arresting device, preferably at the existing screw hole, and to thereafter place the cord for the Venetian blinds into this. The parting force F which is exerted by the resilient element 10 between the housing 6 and the operating element 8 is preferably arranged so large that the Venetian blind cord 4 at its jammed and arrested position between the housing 6 and the operating element 8 on one hand can not slide within the arresting device 2 under the influence of the force which is exerted on the Venetian blind cord 4 by the Venetian blind slats but where on the other hand the Venetian blind cord 4 can slide within the arresting device 2 under the influence of muscle force from a person who by pulling on the Venetian blind cord 4 desires to raise the Venetian blind slats without pushing in the operating element 8 within the chamber 20 of the housing 6.
Figure 2 shows schematically a view of an arresting device 2 according to figure 1 in release position, i.e. when the operating element 8 is pushed in within the chamber of the housing 6. From the figure can be seen that by pushing in the operating element 8 within the chamber of the housing 6 against the force which is exerted by the said resilient element the slit 30 at the housing 6 and the recess 32 at the operating element 8 can be set so that they border on each other whereby a Venetian blind cord 4 can be introduced from the outside of the housing 6 transversally to its extension B via the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and into the recess 32 at the operating element 8. In the embodiment shown in the figure, the slit 30 and the recess 32, respectively, are arranged with such extension and such depth, respectively, that a stretched part of a Venetian blind cord 4 can be introduced from the outside of the housing 6 via the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and into the recess 32 at the operating element when the operating element 8 is pushed in within the chamber of the housing.
From the figure can further be seen, the protrusion 34 of the operating element 8 which protrusion is arranged to detain the Venetian blind cord 4 within the recess 32 and thus prevent that the Venetian blind cord 4 slides out from the recess 32 when the operating element 8 is disengaged. Further is also shown a protruding guiding part 44 of the operating element 8, an opening 48 for at least one fastening element with which the housing 6 can be fastened to a fastening surface, and protruding elements 54 arranged on the outside of the bottom of the housing 6 which are arranged to be forced into the fastening surface at the fixing. As is shown in the figure, the edges 60, 62 of the slit 30 can preferably be arranged beveled at least at the outmost part 64 of the slit in order to facilitate the introduction of the Venetian blind cord 4 transversally to its extension B within the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and further into the recess 32 at the operating element 8. Figure 3 shows schematically a side view of an arresting device 2 according to figure 2, in which is shown the housing 6, the operating element 8, the protrusion 34 of the operating element 8, a protruding guide part 44 of the operating element 8 and protruding elements 54 arranged on the outside of the bottom of the housing 6 which are arranged to be forced into the fastening surface at the fixing. As is shown in the figure, the edges 60, 62 of the slit 30 can preferably be arranged beveled at least at the outmost part 64 of the slit 30 in order to facilitate introduction of the Venetian blind cord 4 transversally to its extension B within the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and further into the recess 32 at the operating element 8. In the embodiment shown in the figure, the slit 30 and the recess 32, respectively, are arranged with such extension and such depth, respectively, that a stretched part of a Venetian blind cord 4 can be introduced from the outside of the housing 6 transversally to its extension B via the slit 30 at the wall of the housing 6 and into the recess 32 at the operating element 8 when the operating element 8 is pushed in within the chamber of the housing. In the figure are also inner parts 65 of the slit indicated. Possibly, also the edges of the operating element 8 and the housing 6 that come in contact with the Venetian blind cord 4 when one slowly "slips down" the Venetian blind slats by only slightly pushing the operating element 8 a bit be somewhat beveled in order to minimize the wear of the Venetian blind cord 4.
Figure 4 shows schematically a view of the operating element 8 in figure 1. In the figure is shown the protrusion 34 of the operating element 8, protruding guide parts 44, 46 of the operating element 8, and the push element 58 of the operating element 8.
The housing and the operating element can preferably be made of plastic, such as for example recyclable plastics.

Claims

Claims
1. Arresting device for at least one Venetian blind cord (4), the arresting device (2)
comprising a housing (6) and a at least partly inside the housing (6) within a chamber (20) arranged operating element (8) arranged to be able to be displaced in a
reciprocating motion inside the housing (6), the arresting device (2) further comprising a resilient element (10) arranged to exert a parting force (F) between the housing (6) and the operating element (8), characterized in, that the housing (6) can be fastened to a fastening surface (52) and is arranged with a slit (30) and the operating element (8) is arranged with a recess (32) which slit (30) and which recess (32) extend essentially transversally to the direction of movement (A) of the operating element (8) within the housing (6), where the slit (30) and the recess (32) are arranged to be able to be set so that they border on each other by pushing in the operating element (8) within the chamber (20) of the housing (6) against the force (F) which is exerted by the resilient element (10) whereby a stretched Venetian blind cord (4) is arranged to be able to be introduced from the outside of the housing (6) transversally to its extension (B) via the slit (30) into the recess (32), and where the force (F) which is exerted by the resilient element (10) is arranged to push apart the housing (6) and the operating element (8) when the operating element (8) is released whereby the Venetian blind cord (4) is arranged to be jammed and arrested between the housing (6) and the operating element (8).
2. Arresting device according to claim 1, characterized in, that the recess (32) is
designed narrower at the part which is arranged to border on the outmost part (64) of the slit (30) at the housing (6) and broader at the parts that are arranged to border on the inner parts (65) of the slit (30) at the housing (6) whereby the operating element (8) shows a protrusion (34) which detains the Venetian blind cord (4) within the recess (32).

Arresting device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in, that at least one guide (36, 38) is arranged at the arresting device (2) in the form of at least one guide groove (40, 42) and a protruding guide part (44, 46), respectively, arranged on the housing (6) and on the operating element (8), respectively, or the reverse, where at least the groove (40, 42) extends along the movement direction (A) of the operating element (8) in order to prevent that the operating element (8) rotates relative to the housing (6).
4. Arresting device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in, that at the bottom of the housing (6) is arranged at least one opening (48) for at least one fastening element (50) with which the housing (6) can be fastened to a fastening surface (52).

Arresting device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in, that at least one protruding element (54) is arranged on the outside of the bottom of the housing (6) which element (54) is arranged to be forced into a fastening surface (52) at the fixing in order to prevent rotation of the housing (6) around the fastening element (50).

Arresting device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in, that a helical spring is used as resilient element (10) and that the fastening element (50) or a protrusion of the housing (6) is arranged to protrude from the bottom (22) of the chamber (20) whereby one end of the helical spring can be arranged around this, or optionally the bottom of the housing (6) is arranged with a depression at which one end of the helical spring can be placed, and in corresponding way the other end of the helical spring can be arranged around a corresponding protrusion of the operating element (8), or optionally at a chamber (26) at the operating element (8) in order to prevent tilting of the helical spring within the chamber (20).
7. Arresting device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in, that the operating element (8) is at its end (56) opposite to the resilient element (10) arranged with a push element (58) which can be arranged either in one piece with the operating element (8) or be a separate part.

Arresting device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in, that edges (60, 62) of the slit (30) are arranged beveled at least at the outmost part (64) of the slit in order to facilitate the introduction of the Venetian blind cord (4) transversally to its extension (B) at the slit (30) at the wall of the housing (6) and further into the recess (32) at the operating element (8). Arresting device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in, that edges on the operating element (8) and the housing (6) which come in to contact with the Venetian blind cord (4) when one slowly slips down the Venetian blind slats by only slightly pushing the operating element (8) a bit are somewhat beveled in order to minimize the wear of the Venetian blind cord (4).
