Description
DECORATIVE COVER FOR A SHOE
Technical Field
This invention pertains to footwear and more particularly to decorating footwear to show support. Background Art
People support sports teams and causes. To show their support they wear pins and badges in the form of a logo which is identified with the cause or team that they support. For example Americans will wear American flag pins and supporters of breast cancer research will wear pink ribbon pins. Elastomeric wrist bands in various colors and sporting a name or trademark have also become popular. People will also wear scarves, hats, shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and pants emblazoned with their team logos or insignias of other causes or institutions that they support. For example one can buy t-shirts bearing the insignia of the San Diego Zoo and UCLA.
Fans love to wear clothing with team logos to sporting events. They also like the ability to change the clothing depending on which sporting event they go to. For example a fan might wear a different team article of clothing to a football game, a baseball game and a basketball game. Thus these articles must be fairly inexpensive so that fans can afford to buy many of them.
However, it is not possible to find shoes which show your support for a particular team or cause. This is because, shoes are fairly expensive and it is not, therefore, economically feasible for fans and supporters to buy shoes to support every cause and team they might support.
What is needed is footwear that is cheap and adaptable to Development of notify lottery players of the winning result, a comparison of this result with their selected number and the amount they have won represents a great improvement in the field of lottery playing and satisfies a long felt need of the lottery player.
Disclosure of Invention
The present invention is a cover for a shoe, which has an upper portion, and a bottom
portion. The cover comprises a web designed to cover the upper portion of the shoe and a partial bottom portion attached to the web and positioned to cover a portion of the bottom of the shoe. The web has a slit through it which creates a first edge and a second edge. The slit can partially or completely divide the web. The slit can be positioned vertically in the web or at an angle to the vertical. The slit can be positioned anywhere on the web: on its left side, on its right side, at its front, or at its rear. Preferably there is a decoration, such as a team logo, on the outside of the web.
The edges of the slit can be joined together with any convenient fastening device. Fastening devices can be buttons and holes, hook and loop fasteners, a zipper, snaps, buckles etc.
The partial bottom can partially cover the sole of the shoe, the heel of the shoe or both. Preferably the partial bottom is made of non-slip material. The cover may also include a mid shoe strap attached to the web and positioned approximately midway along a bottom of the cover. Preferably the strap is elasticized. An appreciation of the other aims and objectives of the present invention and an understanding of it may be achieved by referring to the accompanying drawings and description of a preferred embodiment.

Best Mode for Carrying Out Invention
While the present invention is described herein with reference to illustrative embodiments for particular applications, it should be understood that the invention is not limited thereto. Those having ordinary skill in the art and access to the teachings provided herein will recognize additional modifications, applications, and embodiments within the scope thereof and additional fields in which the present invention would be of significant utility.
Figures 1 , 2 and 3 illustrate the basic concept of invention. This invention 10 has a web 14 of material shaped to fit over the upper parts of a shoe 18. The web 14 of this invention 10 can be made of any convenient fabric. While Figures 1 and 2 illustrate this invention 10 applied to high and low topped shoes18, it can be made to fit any style or type of shoe or boot.
The web 14 is divided into at least two portions by a slit 16 which can be opened and closed by some sort of closure 22. The slit 16 creates edges 20, 21 . While any closure can be used, Figures 1 and 2 illustrate use of a zipper 22a. The zipper 22a on Figures 1 and 2 goes in the vertical direction and only partially divides the web 14. The closure 22, as will be illustrated: can run in any direction; can be at the front, rear or side of the invention 10; and can fully or partially divide the web 14.
The bottom of a shoe 18 is conventionally divided into a sole 26 and a heel 30. The bottom of this invention may have a partial bottom 34 (partial sole) and/or 38 (partial heel) which partially covers the sole 26, the heel 30 or both. The partial bottom 34, 38 is attached at the bottom of the web 14 and is preferably made of a non slip material. The non-slip material is shown with semi-circular bumps in a regular pattern on Figure 3. However, it could be made with linear bumps, or bumps in any desired pattern. A decoration 17 can be applied to the outside surface 14a of the web 14.
The remaining Figures all illustrate variations of the basic concept of this invention 10. Figure 4 illustrates an angled zipper 22a on a side of the invention 10, which partially divides the web 14. While the zipper 22a slants forwards in this embodiment, it could just as easily slant backwards. Also, the angle of slant could vary between anywhere between about 5 and 85 degrees.
Figure 5 illustrates a vertical zipper 22a at the rear which partially divides the web 14. Figure 6 illustrates a front vertical zipper 22a which partially divides the web 14.
Figure 7 illustrates a front vertical zipper 22a which completely divides the web 14.
Figure 8 illustrates the mid shoe strap 42, which fastens on the bottom of the web 14. Preferably this strap 42 is made of elasticized material.
Figure 9 illustrates a snap closure 46 and Figure 9A illustrates a button 47 and button hole 49 closure.
Figures 10 and 1 1 illustrate a rear, vertical, hook and loop closure 50 which completely divides the web 14. This embodiment only has a partial sole 34 since it is impossible to use a
partial heel 38 with embodiments having a rear vertical closure 22 which completely divide the web 14.
The figures illustrate some right handed and some left handed versions. It will be clear that this invention will usually be provided in pairs, one right handed and one left-handed. Figures 1 , 2, 4 and 9 are good examples. However, some versions will not have handedness. In other words one design can be applied to either a left or right hand shoe. Figures 5, 6, 7 and 10 are examples.
This invention can be made in hundreds of embodiments. The following design elements can be permutated and combined in many different ways. Closure device 22 - Zipper 22a, hook and loop pile 50, snaps 46, buttons 47, etc.
Location of closure device - front, rear, outside slanted to front, outside slanted to rear, etc.
Bottom - partial sole 34, partial heel 38 or both.
Non-slip fabric - regularly spaced dots, irregularly spaced dots, lines, patterns, etc.
With and without the mid shoe strap 42.
Other design elements can be conceived and utilized in this invention.
The following reference numerals are used on Figures 1 through 1 1 :
