A wager may include a bet of money or any other item of value (e.g., chips, coins, dollars, gold, credit, labor, stocks, bonds, etc.). The result of a wager may be determined based on an outcome of an event or events (e.g., whether an event occurs or does not occur, how much of a particular event occurs, who wins a race, who comes in second in a race, whether a card is drawn, if one hand beats another hand, where a roulette ball drops, which balls are drawn in a lottery, and so on). The results of a wager may include, an amount paid to one or more players of a game and/or an amount owed by one or more players of a game. [0079] Games may include physical activity, such as movement of tokens, cards, and so on. Games may include virtual activity, such as simulated movement of cards, simulated physics, and so on. Games may be played in a physical table or machine version. Games may be played in a computerized virtual version, such as on a computer. Various embodiments are described in a physical version, but it should be understood that other embodiments may include virtual games with similar characteristics.

A token may include any item, such as a coin, a dollar, a stone, a diamond, a stock certificate, and so on. A plurality of tokens may be positioned on the surface element in any number and in any arrangement. A surface element may include a shelf, a flat surface, a curved surface, a stationary surface, a moveable surface, and/or any other type of surface on which one or more tokens may be supported. The forces applied to the various tokens on the shelf may cause one or more of the tokens to be pushed off the shelf. For example, if a player uses a propelling element to propel a token to a path of a rake element and the rake element causes the token to push other tokens off the surface element, the player may win a game. The play may win a game if one token falls off the surface element, if a plurality of tokens fall off the surface element, and so on. The player may win an amount that is in proportion to the number of tokens that fall off the surface element. In some implementations, some tokens may be worth more than other tokens. In some implementations, if no tokens fall of the surface element, then a player may lose a game.

For example, a rake element may move a token that intersects the rake elements path while moving through the air (e.g., before landing on a shelf after being propelled from a propelling element).

In some implementations, the interface may include a coin depositor or token depositor. The player may enter a credit card to be charged for each play or enter a number of plays to be charged to a credit card or debit card. In some implementations, the system may use a ticket in ticket out system in which a user places an amount of money on a card that can be used at a plurality of games (e.g., similar to a debit card). Winnings may be added to the ticket and losing or wagers deducted from the ticket.

The motion may be configured to appear to correspond to the placement of the player's token into the propelling element. In some implementations, a glass or other piece of material may separate the environment of a game from a player keeping the tokens and other elements of a game safe from intervention by a player. Repopulating tokens may include automatically propelling a number of tokens and pushing a rake to its maximum level one or more times. Selecting the rake may include an element of skill to determine which if any rake may push the token over the edge and which factors of rake movement may result in the rake pushing the token over the edge. A sling shot may place a token in a center region of an elastic element. The elastic element may be stretched in a direction. The elastic element may be allowed to return to an outstretched position and in so doing may result in the projection of the token. The distance the elastic element is stretched may correspond to a force applied to the token to project the token. In some implementation, a user may be able to stretch the elastic element directly, through an interface (e.g., a lever, a button, a dial, etc.). In other implementations, the elastic element may be stretched to a predetermined distance or one of a selectable predetermined distances. [0098] In some implementations, one or more buttons may be used to operate a game. The buttons may include solenoid based switches. Such solenoid based switches may operate to provide fast response to a player selection of a button. [0099] In some implementations, tokens may be reactive to magnetic fields and one or more buttons may be used to operate a solenoid that adjusts a magnetic field to allow pulling or pushing of tokens through magnetism. Such pulling of tokens through magnetism may be similar to raking but without use of a rake element. The magnetic field may be controlled by a current applied to the solenoid. The current ma be selected by a player (e.g., by adjusting a dial, etc.). For example, a player may manually place the tokens on the surface elements as the player sees fit, players may select form a plurality of patterns of other parameters that affect the placement (e.g., many tokens far from an edge vs. few tokens close to an edge) of the tokens and so on.
[00101] In some embodiments, a game may include one or more basket elements 111. A basket element may include a circle, square, rectangular, trapezoidal or other shape that defines an area. In some implementations, if a token passes through the basket (e.g., through the area defined by the shape), a payout or bonus may be given to the player. In some implementations, the basket may be above a surface element so that the token may only be able to go through the basket if the token is propelled through the basket before it hits the surface element. In other implementations, the basket may be below the surface element, so that if tokens are pushed from the shelf, they may fall through the basket. The basket may be of any size or shape.

In some implementations, for example, if a token passes through the basket, all tokens on one or more surface elements may be pushed off the edge. A target may move from round to round (e.g., lasers may identify the new location, a mechanical movement may physically move a target, etc.) Any method of determining a target is hit or otherwise activated may be used (e.g., weight sensors, pressure sensors, magnetic sensors, video recorders, motion detectors, etc.). In some implementations, a portion of a shelf, for example, may be designed to appear like a dollar or special coin or other target that identifies the location of a target. Tokens that land or otherwise settle on the portion may be given a bonus of some sort.
[00107] In some embodiments, a game may include a token collector element. The token collector may collect tokens that fall off of surface elements. The token collector may determine a number of tokens that fall off the surface elements in a round of game play. [00108] In some implementations, a game may be used as a secondary game for a primary game that includes a reel, wheel, video game, and or any other type of game. The game may be of a reduced size. The game may include being used as a bonus game. In some implementations, a game may include a virtual game that is played through a computer (e.g., on a monitor without an actual physical movement of coins and/or other elements).

Figure 2 illustrates another example embodiment. The example of Figure 2 illustrates an embodiment in which skill may be employed to guide a token to one or more targets (e.g., baskets). Skill, in some implementations, may be used to aim the token. As illustrated in Figure 2, some embodiments may include one or more basket elements 201. Some examples of basket elements are discussed above. In some implementations, basket elements may be arranged in a pattern based on a payout associated with passing a token through the basket. For example, as illustrated in Figure 2, basket elements may be arranged in three levels. At the bottom level, a payout may be minimal for passing a token through the basket. At the middle level, a payout may be moderate for passing a token through a basket. At the highest level, a payout may be high for passing a token through a basket. The difficult of passing a token through a basket at each level may increase as the level increases. A number of baskets at each level may decrease as the level goes up. A top level may correspond to a progressive jackpot in some implementations. The one or more baskets may be coupled to a wall element, such as a vertical wall at a back of a playing area for the game. In some embodiments, basket elements may move (e.g., along a track, etc.)
As illustrated in Figure 2, some embodiments may include a propelling element 203. Some example propelling elements are discussed above. The propelling element may include, for example, a revolving drum coin kicker. The propelling elements may propel tokens along a play field, which is discussed below, towards the one or more baskets. The propelling element may, in some implementations, allow aiming (e.g., by a user operating a control). In other implementations, the propelling element may not allow aiming.
As illustrated in Figure 2, some embodiments may include a play field 205. The play field may comprise a surface along which a token may be propelled from the propelling element. The play field may comprise an inclined element along which the tokens may be propelled. The inclined element may facilitate launching of the tokens into the air toward the basket element. Accordingly, a player may propel a token from the propelling element along the inclined element into the air so that it may pass through a basket element. The inclined element may be positioned between the basket element and the propelling element at some distance from each to facilitate proper launching of the tokens towards the basket element. For example, the inclined element may be some number of inches from the basket elements. The distance may vary based on the size of a game and/or arrangement of the basket element.
As illustrated in Figure 2, some embodiments may include an aiming element 207. In some implementations, the aiming element may adjust a path of the inclined element to direct tokens towards the basket element. The aiming elements may include rake elements that may be positioned by a player as the player desires (e.g., by operating a control). For example, a player may use one or more controls to move rake elements into a desired position so that a propelled token follows a path defined by the rake elements. In other embodiments, an aiming element may be positioned along the edges of an inclined element and players may position the inclined element within a range using one or more controls. The aiming element in such an implementation may keep the tokens on the inclined element as it travels towards the basket element.. In other embodiments players may aim the propelling element without aid form aiming elements.
In some embodiments, the aiming element may include one or more flippers. A flipper may be similar to a pinball flipper. A flipper may be arranged along an inclined element so that the flipper may apply force to tokens on the inclined element when activated by a player. A player may activate the flippers for example, by operating a control (e.g., pressing a button, etc.). The control may control the speed and/or direction of the flipper movement. A skill of a player may be determinative as to how the player operates the control (e.g., how much force he applies, when the force is applied, etc.). The flipper may pivot around a base point so that a far end of the flipper moves quickly around a radius applying a force to tokens in its path. The flippers may be used to apply force to the tokens as they pass towards the basket element and/or as they pass from the baskets back down to the ground. In some implementations, the propelling elements may propel one or more tokens onto the inclined area, but not far enough to pass off a far end of the inclined area. The inclined area may be inclined to a level such that the tokens may begin to fall back down from the top of the inclined area towards a player. As the tokens fall back down, the flippers may be used to propel the tokens towards the basket element (e.g., by operating a control at a desired point to activate a flipper). In some implementations, tokens that are falling back down from the basket area and/or that are not propelled by the flippers may fall back into a propelling unit pool so that they are propelled again (e.g., later in a game, in a later game, etc.).
In some implementations, a series of tokens may be launched from a propeller element onto the playing field. The player may be allowed to play with the flippers for a period of time (e.g., 10 seconds) for each credit purchased (e.g., for each quarter, each dollar, etc.). After that period of time, the flippers may become inoperable in some implementations. After that period of time, the propeller element may become inoperable but the flippers may stay operable to propel any tokens still in the play field. In some implementations, the propelling element may propel tokens at a desired rate (e.g., 1 token per second).
In some embodiments, if a player succeeds in passing a token through a basket element by using skill to operate elements of the game, the player may receive a payout. The payout may be based on a wager made, on a basket through which the token passes, and/or any other information. It should be understood that various embodiments may combine elements from other embodiments and that all features described in some embodiments may not be included in other embodiments. The example embodiments are given as examples of various elements and possible embodiments. The example embodiments are not limiting.

Claims

ClaimsWhat is claimed is:
1. An apparatus comprising: a basket element configured such that a token may pass through an area defined by the basket element; an inclined element configure so that the token may travel along a surface of the inclined element and such that an inclined portion of the inclined element is positioned towards the basket element so that a token may be launched off the inclined portion towards the basket element; a propelling element configured to propel the token onto the inclined element towards the basket element; and an aiming element operable to adjust a path of the token to launch the token towards the basket element.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, in which the basket element includes a plurality of basket elements, each basket element configured to provide a plurality of different payout amounts if the token passes though a respective area defined by the basket element.
3. The apparatus of claim 1, in which the aiming element includes a flipper configured to apply a force towards the basket element to one or more tokens upon operation by a user of the apparatus.
