Abstract

Figure 1: Shows the SharePoint shared Folder being displayed in Outlook (or equivalent email client). The software application described in (1) provides a drop down menu item entitled SharePoint within Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client). The Microsoft SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) url display the Microsoft SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) document library page in Outlook (or equivalent email client) with the emails and/or documents being displayed within this page (4). The SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folders created by the software application are displayed in the Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) menu tree and will allow a user to drag and drop emails from their inbox and/or other folders into this menu (3). Figure 2: Shows the Webservices call to have emails sent from the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folders in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) into Microsoft SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) on the server. The Outlook (or equivalent email client) application and software application is hosted on the client system (5) and the emails are sent using via Webservices (6) to the SharePoint server (7).

Description

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAG AND DROP
A software application that will allow a user to drag and drop emails from Outlook (or equivalent email client) (while still in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client)) into Microsoft SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) and will be an additional application and feature of the Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) software application.
The software is a COM add-in or equivalent where the software will create a SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder under the inbox menu in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) so that emails can be dragged from an inbox or other folder and placed into SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) and when an email has been moved into this folder it will be automatically stored into a Document Library.
SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder that is created in Outlook (or equivalent email client) will pre populate the url of the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) document library into this Outook (or equivalent email client) folder providing a quick and easy way to store emails and view them.
The SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) provides the ability to move emails to Outlook (or equivalent email client) so the email is deleted from the harddrive of the user when it has been saved into SharePoint \ (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility).
The software application will modify the Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) Menu system to provide folder and a drop down list within the tool bar to create access to the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) functionality and will create the option to have a SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) Document Library folder in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client).
The software application will display the relevant SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) Document Library in Outlook (or equivalent email client) through the Outlook (or equivalent email client) internet interface when the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder has been added to the Outlook (or equivalent email client) inbox.
The software application will allow a user to select the relevant SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) Document Library and will allow them to search and then select the relevant SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) Document Library.
The software application will use a Webservice to pass the emails from Outlook (or equivalent email client) and to store them on the server in which the version of SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) is installed.

Claims

The claim defining the invention are as follows:
2. A software COM add-in or equivalent of claim 1 wherein the software will a SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder under the inbox menu in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) so that emails can be dragged from an inbox or other folder and placed into SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) and when an email has been moved into this folder it will be automatically stored into a Document Library.
3. Further to claims 1 and 2 the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder that is created in Outlook (or equivalent email client) will pre populate the url of the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) document library into this Outook (or equivalent email client) folder providing a quick and easy way to store emails and view them.
4. The SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder described in claims 1 to 2 in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) provides the ability to move emails to Outlook (or equivalent email client) so the email is deleted from the harddrive of the user when it has been saved into SharePoint \ (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility).
5. The software application described in claims 1 to 4 will modify the Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client) Menu system to provide folder and a drop down list within the tool bar to create access to the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) functionality and will create the option to have a SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) Document Library folder in Microsoft Outlook (or equivalent email client).
6. The software application of claims 1 to 2 will display the relevant SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) Document Library in Outlook (or equivalent email client) through the Outlook (or equivalent email client) internet interface when the SharePoint (or equivalent file/document/email storage facility) folder has been added to the Outlook (or equivalent email client) inbox.
