THEREOF
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a portable terminal and a method of outputting data of the portable terminal.
Background Art [2] Generally, a portable terminal is a communication equipment for providing a telecommunication between a user and another user or between the user and a service provider. The portable terminal is being used in various services such as a multimedia service, entertainment, and mobile banking as well as mobile communication services such as a voice call and a short message service. [3] This portable terminal includes a display device for data input using a keypad, camera function, and video function. The user can perceive images through the display device. The early display device was a black and white liquid crystal display (LCD) for displaying simple texts and simple icons. The display device is gradually developed to be a gray scale LCD and a TFT LCD which can display vivid and various colors.
Therefore, through the portable terminal, multimedia service such as the camera and video function is available. [4] Also, by including a broadcasting receiver for satellite and/or terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting services, the portable terminal is able to receive a digital broadcasting service. [5] Recently, as the size of the portable terminal is miniaturized, the size of the display device is also miniaturized. Therefore, it is difficult to display much information in a small display device or to detect a defect in an image. [6] Therefore, in order to detect a defect in an image, users should transmit the image of the portable terminal to a computer monitor or a TV through the internet or universal serial bus (USB) ports.

Technical Problem
[7] An embodiment of the present invention provides a portable terminal for attaching a display device to a portable terminal body or detaching the display device from the portable terminal body and a method of outputting data of the portable terminal.
[8] An embodiment of the present provides a portable terminal for displaying data received through a remote display device and a method of outputting data of the portable terminal byperforming short distance wireless communication between a portable terminal body and the display device. Technical Solution
[9] An embodiment of the present invention provides a portable terminal comprising: a body for transmitting data using short distance wireless communication; and a display device performing the short distance wireless communication with the body, for processing data received from the body and outputting the processed data.
[10] An embodiment of the present invention provides a portable terminal comprising: a body operating in different communication modes and storing data; a display device for output the data; a short distance communication portion for performing short distance wireless communication between the display device and the body; and a connector for providing wired access between the body and the display device.
[11] An embodiment of the present invention provides a method of outputting data of a portable terminal, the method comprising: determining whether a display device is separated from a body; if the display device is separated from the body, connecting the body to the display device via short distance wireless communication; transmitting data output from the body to the display device via the short distance wireless communication; receiving the data transmitted from the display device; processing the data in real time; and outputting the data in real time.
Advantageous Effects
[12] According to an embodiment of the present invention, by detaching a display device from a portable terminal body, the display device can be more efficiently available. [13] Also, data can be perceived in a small space by receiving and displaying various data from a portable terminal body through the remote display device.

[21] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[22] FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a portable terminal body 110 and a display device 130 according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a view illustrating coupling the display device 130 with the portable terminal body 110 according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[23] As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the portable terminal 100 includes the body 110 and the display device 130. The configuration of the display device 130 allows attaching the display device 130 to the body 110 and detaching the display device 130 from the body 110.
[24] The body 110 includes all kind of functions of the terminal. A key input portion
106, a connector, and the like are provided in the body 110. The display device 130 includes minimum elements for displaying information and displays data using a display portion 134.
[25] A short distance wireless communication is performed between the body 110 and the display device 130. The body 110 transmits data to the display device 130 using the short distance wireless communication. The display device 130 displays the data through the display portion 134. The display device 130 processes and reproduces much information and audio/video (A/V) data transmitted from the body 110.
[26] Also, the body 110 and the display device 130 are coupled in a single unit. By coupling a joint portion 150 formed on a predetermined portion of the body 110 with a mounting portion (not shown) of the display device 130, the body 110 and the display device 130 can be available in a single unit. Here, the display device 130 may be coupled with the body 110 in one of a hinge structure, a hook structure, a sliding structure, a rotation structure, and the like.

[28] Referring to FIG. 3, wired communication or wireless communication may be performed between a computer 200 and the body 110. For example, blue tooth or wireless universal serial bus (USB) communication mode is available for the wireless communication and USB cable is available for the wired communication.
[29] In this system, the body 110 of the portable terminal 100 may transmit data stored in internal memory to the computer 200 and transmit data of the computer 200 to the body 110 of the portable terminal 100. Therefore, video file, image file, audio file, and the like may be transmitted in both directions.
[30] Also, after the body 110 of the portable terminal 100 stores data received from the computer 200, the body 110 may reproduce the data through the display device 130 when necessary.

[32] Referring to FIG. 4, the configuration of the portable terminal 100 allows attaching the display device 130 to the body 110 and detaching the display device 130 from the body 110. When the display device 130 is detached from the body 110, the short distance wireless communication is performed between the display device 130 and the body 110. For example, when blue tooth communication mode is performed between the display device 130 and the body 110, the wireless data communication is provided using 2.4 GHz industrial scientific medical (ISM) band. The wireless data communication has a maximum data transfer rate of 1 Mbps and nominal communication range of 10 m.
[33] Therefore, as the body 110 remotecontrols the display device 130, the body 110 transmits much data stored in the body 110 to the display device 130 and the display device 130 may display the data and reproduce the data.
[34] Also, the body 110 and the display device 130 may be available in a single unit or in separated units. In a single unit, the body is directly connected to the display device 130 and the wired communication is performed.
[35] Also, depending on whether the display device 130 is attached or detached, the body 110 selectively controls one of the wired communication mode using the connector and the short distance wireless communication mode.

[37] Referring to FIG. 5, the body 110 includes a radio frequency (RF) portion 111, a data process portion 112, an audio process portion 113, a speaker 114, a microphone 115, a key input portion 116, a camera portion 117, a main memory 118, a first short distance communication portion 119, a main control portion 120, a first connector 121, and a power supply portion 122.
[38] The RF portion 111 performs the wireless communication function for a mobile phone. The RF portion 111 includes a RF transmitter, a RF receiver, and the like. The RF transmitter upconverts and amplifies transmitted signal frequency. The RF receiver low-noise amplifies received signal and downconverts frequency. Here, the RF portion 111 may transmit and receive one or more band signal of global system for mobile (GSM), extend GSM (EGSM), digital cordless system (DCS), and personal communication service (PCS). Also, the RF portion 111 may include a global positioning system (GPS) receiver.
[39] The data process portion 112 encodes and modulates the transmitted signal. Also, the data process portion 112 demodulates and decodes the received signal. That is, the data process portion 112 may include a modem and a codec. The audio process portion 113 converts an audio signal input through the main control portion 120 into an analog audio signal and outputs the analog audio signal through the speaker 114. Also, the audio process portion 113 converts a user's voice into a digital signal and delivers the digital signal to the main control portion 120.
[40] The key input portion 116 includes function keys for setting keys and various functions for input number and character information.
[41] The main memory 118 may include a program memory and data memories. Various application programs such as a call processing program of the mobile phone are stored in the program memory. Multi media data such as video files, audio files (e.g. mpeg 3), and image files as well as text files are stored in the data memory.

(EP-ROM) in which programs are stored, a Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) used as a temporary storage memory for a control program to process data in an actual operation region, and Flash ROM for storing the data.
[43] The camera portion 117 includes a camera module for taking an image or a moving picture. Data taken by the camera portion 117 may be stored in the main memory 118 or transmitted to the display device 130. Here, the terminal body 110 may include a broadcasting receiver such as a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) or a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) as additional functions.
[44] The main control portion 120 controls general operations of the portable terminal
100. Also, the main control portion 120 may include the data process portion 112. That is, in the portable terminal 100, a communication chip (e.g. MSM) may be the main control portion 120. In the communication chip, the main control portion 120, the data process portion 112, and the audio process portion 113 are integrated in a single chip.
[45] This main control portion 120 controls the communication with the display device
130. After the main control portion 120 synchronizes the operation modes of the body 110 and the display device 130, the main control portion 120 controls a call mode and a multimedia player mode, respectively. Also, the main control portion 120 selectively controls a wireless communication or a connector communication depending on whether the display device 130 is attached or detached.
[46] The first short distance communication portion 119 modulates and transmits data output from the main control portion 120 through a corresponding short distance communication mode or demodulates received data through a corresponding short distance communication mode and outputs the data to the main control portion 120. The first short distance communication portion 119 may include one or more of communication modules such as IrDA mode, bluetooth, Ultra Wide Band (UWB), Zigbee, Wireless LAN (WLAN), Binary CDMA, and Wireless USB. Also, in the present invention, a RFID reader may be provided in order to obtain RFID tag information. The first short distance communication portion 119 may perform the wireless communication with communication devices near the body 110 such as a computer, a digital camera, PDA, a Portable Multimedia Player (PMP).
[47] The first connector 121 includes a USB port or a wired data port and may be connected to a computer, TV, and the display device 130 by wired line. The first connector 121 may be connected to the display device 130 via docking.
[48] As a main power supply portion, the power supply portion 122 provides each portion of the body 110 with power. Also, when the display device 130 is connected, the power supply portion 122 may provide the display device 130 with power.

[51] The second short distance communication portion 131 is a module which performs the wireless communication with the first short distance communication portion 119 of the body 110. The second short distance communication portion 131 modulates and transmits data output from the sub control portion 132 through a corresponding short distance communication mode or demodulates received data through a corresponding short distance communication mode and outputs the data to the sub control portion 132. The second short distance communication portion 131 may include one of communication modules such as IrDA mode, bluetooth, Ultra Wide Band (UWB), Zigbee, Wireless LAN (WLAN), Binary CDMA, and Wireless USB.
[52] For example, bluetooth is used as a communication method between devices. A bluetooth module includes a radio frequency (RF) portion and a base band portion. The RF portion receives a high frequency signal and transforms the high frequency signal into a digital signal or changes a digital signal into a high frequency signal and transmits the high frequency signal. The base band portion processes the protocol of a physical layer.
[53] Also, the display device 130 performs a communication with a Personal Digital
Assistant (PDA), a digital camera, a Portable Multimedia Player (PMP), and the like as well as the body 110.
[54] The sub control portion 132 sends received data to the video and audio process portion 133 and 135 by controlling the second short distance communication portion 131. Therefore, data are reproduced through the display portion 134 and the speaker 136. Here, the sub control portion 132 receives data from the body 110 in real time and sends the data to the video and audio process portion 133 and 135.

Memory (EP-ROM) in which a control program for displaying is stored and a Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) used as a temporary storage memory for the control program to process data in an actual operation region.

(OLED), a Polymer LED(PLED), an Organic Electro Luminescence Display, a Field Emission Display (FED), an Electro-wetting display, and an Electro-paper are used as the display portion 134. The display portion 134 includes a driving driver.

Therefore, a user can control electric home appliances as well as confirming information through data such as pictures and texts input to the body 110.
[67] Also, through the short distance wireless communication, the body 110 of the portable terminal receives an advertisement output on a site such as an exhibition, a public institution, a racetrack, a shopping mall, and a supermarket through the short distance wireless communication, a moving picture, location information such as a map, a tour guide, and information of a product having a RF tag. The display device 130 displays the data. Therefore, users can more accurately confirm information through larger picture. Industrial Applicability
[68] In a portable terminal according to am embodiment of the present invention,since a display device is detached from a body of the terminal, the display device can be more conveniently used.
[69] Besides, since the display device displays various data of the terminal body in a remote place, service is available in a small space.

Claims

Claims
[1] A portable terminal comprising: a body for transmitting data using short distance wireless communication; and a display device performing short distance wireless communication with the body, for processing data received from the body and outputting the processed data.
[2] The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the body and the display device comprise short distance communication portions for the short distance wireless communication.
[3] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body comprises a key input portion for receiving a key input, a main memory for storing data and programs, a main control portion for performing various controlling, a microphone, and a speaker.
[4] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body comprises: a radio frequency portion for transmitting and receiving one or more band signal of global system for mobile, extend global system for mobile, digital cordless system, and personal communication service; and a data process portion for processing a signal transmitted and received through the radio frequency portion.
[5] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the display device comprises: a sub control portion for controlling communications and data processing; a signal process portion for processing received data in real time; a speaker for outputting an audio signal; and a display portion for outputting a video signal.
[6] The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the display device comprises an audio output port for outputting an audio signal through a headphone or a headset.
[7] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body and the display device are detachably coupled.
[8] The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the short distance communication portion comprises one of bluetooth, Ultra Wide Band, Zigbee, Wireless Local Area Network, Binary Code Division Multiple Access, Infrared Data Association, and Wireless Universal Serial Bus communication modules.
[9] The apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the display portion comprises at least one of a Liquid Crystal Display, an Organic Light Emitting Diode, a Polymer Light Emitting Diode, an Organic Electro Luminescence Display, a Field Emission Display, an Electro- wetting display, and an Electro-paper.
[10] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the display device comprises at least one of a touch screen, a speech recognizer, and a virtual keyboard.
[11] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body and the display device comprise power supply portions, respectively.
[12] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body and the display device comprise connectors for wired accesses, respectively.
[13] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body or the display device comprises a radio frequency identificationreader.
[14] The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the body comprises a digital broadcasting receiver.
[15] A portable terminal comprising: a body operating in different communication modes and storing data; a display device for outputting the data; a short distance communication portion for performing short distance wireless communication between the display device and the body; and a connector for providing wired access between the body and the display device.
[16] The apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the short distance communication portion comprises one of bluetooth, Ultra Wide Band, Zigbee, Wireless Local Area Network, Binary Code Division Multiple Access, Infrared Data Association, and Wireless Universal Serial Bus communication modules.
[17] The apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the body comprises: a radio frequency portion for transmitting and receiving at least one band signal of global system for mobile, extend global system for mobile, digital cordless system, and personal communication service; and a data process portion for processing a signal transmitted and received through the radio frequency portion.
[18] The apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the body and the display device are formed in one piece or are detachably coupled.
[19] A method of outputting data of a portable terminal, the method comprising: determining whether a display device is separated from a body; if the display device is separated from the body, connecting the body to the display device via short distance wireless communication; transmitting data output from the body to the display device via the short distance wireless communication; receiving the data transmitted from the display device; processing the data in real time; and outputting the data in real time.
[20] The method according to claim 19, further comprising performing com- munication between the body and the display device through a connector if the display device is attached to the body in one piece.
