Abstract

An implantable rotary blood pump (13) including an impeller (2) adapted to rotate within a pump housing (6), and a motor having at least one stator (5) mounted on or within the pump housing (6) that interacts with magnetised regions in said impeller. At least a portion of the pump is made of glassy carbon.
