Abstract

A method for processing information providing assistance to all accredited teachers for the creation of teaching media, wherein a telematic teaching medium is made to correspond to each page of a lesson comprising least one minimum page-content, said teaching medium being composed according to instructions recorded by the teacher via Internet and stemming from libraries of pre-recorded multimedia sequences created in the form of multimedia lessons wherein the minimum base content is reproduced in association with call links for multimedia sequences selected by the teacher for that purpose in order to authorize the consultation thereof by pupils via Internet.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING INFORMATION PROVIDING ASSISTANCE IN THE PRODUCTION OF MEDIA

TEACHING

The present invention relates to the design and production of tools and materials which can be made available to teachers as means of assistance in the development of courses for their students. We understand here that the term teacher is used in the broad sense to designate any type of teacher, in the same way that the concept of pupil must be understood symmetrically in the broad sense. In other words, the instructors, guides, educators, etc., are all equivalents of the teachers within the framework of the applications of the invention, insofar as they have to address the "taught" that are their pupils to provide them with a teaching they are preparing for them. Nevertheless, it will often be necessary in the rest of this presentation to favor the vocabulary which is commonly used in public education in primary and secondary schools such as high schools and colleges, and as this is a field preferred application of the invention, to take the situations encountered there as an example of the needs which the invention aims to satisfy.

It is thus that one can consider as being perfectly current that for each group of pupils coming under a determined professor, the professor can use several teaching supports which he will share with his pupils. The most commonly distributed medium is collections of information on paper, the typical example being the textbook in the form of a printed book available for purchase commercially. The characteristic of these textbooks is to be common to all the pupils belonging to the same group by its content. For example, each pupil belonging to the same teacher in charge of a class of a given level for a given subject will have a copy of the corresponding textbook which will be identical from one pupil to another. Another peculiarity of these textbooks is that they are somehow permanent, since the student will generally have to use the same textbook from one course to another for a fixed period, including that of the school year.

It is rare in this context, but more frequent in others, that the content of such a textbook is available to the student being taught in the form of a recorded computer file and that this file offers to the user who visually observes this content of links enabling it to display on the same display screen sequences of additional information. It is easy to understand that the content of the manual as well as that of the complementary sequences can be recorded on any computer medium, those represented by the local disks of individual microcomputers such as those of servers on local networks or those of server sites on networks of global extension such as the Internet. . In the latter case, we can speak of telematic teaching support since the courses recorded in multimedia files are accessible by telecommunication or remote transmission of digitized information.

In the context of national education, products are also known which combine the support on paper of a printed manual or the like with a computer support resulting in files recorded on CD Rom discs and used on a display screen for their content.

Compared to these known techniques, an important objective of the present invention is to improve the working conditions for the different partners of the same educational framework, namely mainly both the teacher and his pupils, but also for example the administration of an establishment grouping together several teachers participating in the system as well as their respective pupils, or other persons making their contribution to the development of the content of the courses which we will call contributors.

Another important objective of the invention is to favor the use of teletransmissions by Internet by facilitating for the teachers the preparation of teaching supports of telematic type which one will say here evolutionary as opposed to the permanent textbooks which constitute the course books . Indeed, each Professor adhering to the system proposed by the invention will thus be able to compose at will such teaching aids in the form of multimedia textbook courses using modern means of data processing and telecommunications and taking advantage of the variety and flexibility. that multimedia techniques offer. As he goes from one lesson to another in the permanent textbook, he can introduce any additional items he chooses in the corresponding courses in the evolving textbook, which will then be made available to students for consultation via the Internet network.

At the same time, another advantageous consequence of the invention is that it makes it possible to lighten the content of the books that clutter children's schoolbags throughout the school year by partially replacing it with multimedia supplements to which each pupil will be able to access via the network. Internet.

In this sense, the present invention essentially consists in making available via the Internet to any qualified teacher an automated system for assisting in the composition of multimedia courses by selection from a series of call links to complementary multimedia sequences predefined as being attachable to a minimum basic content of a corresponding course page, and to make the course thus constituted by recording the selected links, which comprise in combination said minimum basic content and the corresponding multimedia sequences, for the selective disposal of pupils authorized for this purpose according to their relationship with said teacher and / or the teaching context in which said minimum content is situated.

As will have already been understood, the reference which is made here as in the rest of the presentation to the Internet network is used in a nonlimiting manner to designate any telecommunications network of sufficient distribution for each of the partners to use the system can easily access the server site centralizing the records, either from its home, either from a classroom or a reserved place in the school to which the teacher and his students belong.

The invention also results in an information processing system offering a procedure for assisting in the development of teaching aids which, in its preferred embodiments, advantageously leads to a telematics teaching aid having multimedia course in an evolving textbook made available to students belonging to a group of students reporting to a specific teacher for a specific teaching context in addition to the corresponding course pages of a so-called permanent textbook, for which an example particularly significant is that of the book that each student has for said specific context.

Under this notion of teaching context to which each pupil belongs in the relation of the group to which he belongs with the professor delivering the teaching, we can notably include the class where the pupils in question are grouped, the level to which this class responds ( for example, level CM2 for a class of medium course second year in French primary school) the subject treated, possibly the subject in this subject, the qualification of the school where the teacher practices, his situation geographic, etc.

In accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention, interactive relationships between the teacher and each student can be maintained through the telematic teaching medium. In accordance with other secondary characteristics of the invention, the system can offer each user professor connecting to the server site from a remote computer station the possibility of making a choice between several operating modes at each stage of the process. As is schematically illustrated by the figure supplementing the present description, the information processing system according to the invention uses the Internet network to establish telecommunications relationships in transmissions bidirectional of computer data between a server site S and various remote stations, constituted in a manner known per se by computers with microprocessors. In addition to different teachers and different students belonging to different groups of students, it has been shown that there is also involved in the system on the one hand a manager G representing the establishment to which the different teachers and students considered, as well as 'a contributor C taken as an example of a person collaborating in the constitution of databases. According to the invention, one of the major functions of the programs implemented in the system described here consists in: record the composition of multimedia courses to be offered to the student by establishing links between various database resources under the order of orders received from the teacher. Another important functionality implemented by the system of the invention relates to the monitoring of students' work by the teacher.

This follow-up implies in particular that some of the resources which the teacher can call upon for the constitution of the attached sequences completing the basic page of a multimedia course are constituted by exercises whose content is made accessible to the student for modification by the answers. that it brings to questions that are asked there.
