この ¾明は、 Ξ次元鹿標により定義され、 セグメント 〔地形や仮想7^問を移動 する人物 ) 等が配 Sされた仮想空間を、 所定の視点から観察した場合に得られ る画像を生成する画像処理技術に係り、 特に、 この視点の効果的な移動の方法に 関するものである。 背景技術
近年のコンピュー夕技術の進歩及び価格の低ト'により T Vゲーム機が普及しつ つある。 この種の T Vゲーム機は R O M力一トリッジゃ C D— R O Mを交換する ことによりさまざまなゲームを行うことができる。
この種のゲームのうちシミュレーションゲームといわれるゲームがある。 シミ ユレーシヨンゲ一ムは、 複数のステージによりゲームが構成されている。 表 ^ 像としては、 プレーヤ (player) が操作して移動可能な特定のセグメント、 プロ グラムの管理にしたがって移動する他のセグメン卜およびその他の地形を小すセ グメン卜が表示される (以下、 プレーヤが操作可能な人物等を表わしたセグメン トを「操作キャラクタ」、プログラムの管理にしたかって移動するセグメン卜を(敵 キャラクタ」 と称する)。 プレーヤは、操作キャラクタを操作して、 敵キャラクタ と 「戦い」 つつ、 さまざまなステージをクリア ( --つのステージを完遂させるこ と) していく。
この稗のシミュレーションゲームには、 従来、 ゲーム開始が指定されると、 数のステ一ジを紹介するための説明「*ί像を^示するものがあつたが、 L、くつかの 不都合があった。
例えば、 従来、 幽—面のページめくり (いわゆるスクロール) をすることにより、 ステージの画像総てを ¾せているものが多かったが、 ステージの 1面像とともに提 示される情報としてはメッセージを表 するだけであった (:従来例 1 )。
また、 操作の便宜のためにカーソルを使用するシミユレ一ションゲームでは、 表示画像内で任意の位置にカーソルを移動させ、 その位置に表示されている地形 セグメン卜を説明するデ一夕を表小-するものがあつた。 しかし、 この力一ソルの 指定した位置のデータが表示されるのみであって、 カーソルに隣接する地形との 関係を ^示しているものはなかった (従来例 2 )。
また、 従来、 地形図データを使用するシミュレーションゲームがあつたが、 こ の地形図デ一夕は、 二次元で定義されたものであって、 三次 で定義された地形 図デ一夕を用いたシユレ一シヨンゲームはなかった。 したがって、 通常の立体的 な地形で 然生じうる を模擬した画像、例えば、 ^からキャラクタが「落下」 することにより損傷を受ける、 というような、 地形を利用したゲーム処理がなか つた。 あつたとしても、 損傷を受ける方向と損傷の度合いがあらかじめ定まって I、るものであつて、 地形に応じて損傷の内容が変化するような実感的なものでは なかった (従来例 3 )。
また、 従来のシミュレ一ションゲームで 7j肉—像を牛.成するための視点を変化 させるものはあった力 ^任意の視点に変化させることができるものはなかった(従 来例 4 )。
以上のように、 従来のシミュレ一ションゲームは、 表示画像を二次元的に定義 する構成であり、 現実の世界である二次元 ¾界に比べ、 ¾感に欠ける画'像表示し 力、行えなかつた。 したがって、 各ステージの表示画像を三次元で定義された地形図データに基づ いて展開し、 視点の位置を縦横に動かして、 プレーヤがより立体的に表示画像を 認識できるように演出する方が、 地形をよりよく理解させやす 、。
なお、 地形図データを三次元で定義し、 視点を仮想空間の任意の位置に動かそ うとすれば、 さらに幾つかの問題が生じうる。
例えば、 二次元的に表示した地形セグメン卜の陰に敵キャラクタ等が隠された 場合、 視点の位置を変化させなければ、 敵キャラク夕を 不させることができな い。 このとき、視点の位置と操作キャラクタの整合をとらないと不都合が^ずる。 つまり、 入力装置 (パツ ド) の操作ボタンには、 操作キャラクタの移動方向が定 義されている。 視点から仮想空間を望む視線の方向と操作キャラクタの向いてい る方向が一致していれば問題ない。 ところが、 視線の方向が操作キャラクタの [ いている方向に一致していないと、 正しい操作が行えなくなるのである。
例えば、 パッ ドの 「上」 スィッチを押したときに操作キャラクタカ 「前進」 す るように定義されていたとする。 操作キャラクタをその背後から観察するような 視点の位置ならば問題無し、。「 1:」スィッチを押せば操作キャラク夕は視点座標系 の z軸方向へ移動する。 ところが、 この操作ボタンの定義のまま、 操作キャラク タを横方向から観察するような位置に視点位置が変更された場合、「上」スィツチ を押すと、 操作キャラクタは Z軸方向、 すなわち操作キャラクタの横方向に移動 することになる。 し力、し、 本来、 「前進」ならば操作キャラクタをその正面方向に 移動させたいところである。
以上、 要するに、 三次元で定義されたポリゴン等を用いて^次元のシミュレ一 ションゲームを行う場合、 従来の二次元のシミュレーションゲームと同様の処理 を行っていたのでは、 操作がしにくいため、 ゲームの面白さを損なうおそれがあ つた。 この発明は、 以上のような課題を解決するためになされたもので、 二次兀で定 義された仮想空間内において視点を任意に移動可能にするとともに、 好適な操作 環境を提示する画像処理装置を提供することを S的とする (目的 1 )。

請求の範囲第 1項の発叨によれば、 仮想空間内で三次元で定義されたセグメン トを仮想空間内の視点から見た画像を生成する幽—像処理装置において、 予め定め られた仮想空間内の三次元的に設定された経路に沿って前記視点を移動させる視 点移動手段を備える画像処理装置である。
なお、 セグメントとしては、 地形や人物等を表示するものであり、 例えば、 ポ リゴンで構成される。 このポリゴンを仮想空間內の視点から観察した場合の二次 元両像が表 される。経路は、二次元上を移動する場合と異なり、 - ·:次几方向(例 えば高さ方向) にも位置を変えつつ移動するように設定される。
第 2項の発明によれば、 記経路には予め所定のメッセ一ジを表示する ^不点 が定められており、 前記視点移動手段は、 前記表示点においてメッセージを表示 する第 1項記載の画像処理装置である。 なお、 メッセージが表示される点は、 例えば、 敵キャラクタがいる場所、 所定 の事物が設定された場所、 崖とか断崖とか特徴的な地形の場所、 その他ゲームの 進行上で遊戯者がなんらかの情報を得ておくべき場所である。 メッセ一ジは、 例 えば、所定のメッセージウインドーに表示される。このメッセージウインドーは、 二次元的表示であるとは限らず、 二次元的に表 されることもある。
請求の範囲第 3項に記載の発明によれば、 前記経路は、 複数の前記セグメント のそれぞれを、 各セグメン卜を異なる視点の位置から表示させるように設定され る第 1 ¾乂は第 2項に記載の画像処理装置である。
なお、 異なる視点の位置からの表示をさせるための経路とは、 例えばつぎのよ うなものである。
•平面状の地形で広く見渡すために、 視点の位 Sを高くする経路にする。

,その他、 映画のパン、 ズーム等の効果を得るように経路を変更する。 例えば、 ある点を強調するときは、 いわばカメラをぐつと引いた状態からアップの状態に 連続的になるように経路を設定する。

次に、本発明を実施するための好適な実施の形態を、図面を参照して説明する。 発明の実施の形態 1 第 1図は発明の灾施の形態 1に係る画像処理装^を用いたビデオゲーム機の外 観図である。 この 1において、 ビデオゲーム機本体 1は略箱型をなし、 その内部 にはゲーム処理用の基板等が設けられている。 また、 ビデオゲーム機本体 1の前 面には、 2つのコネクタ 2 aが設けられており、 これらのコネクタ 2 aにはゲー ム操作用の入力装置であるパッ ド (パッ ド) 2 bがケーブル 2 (:を介して接続さ れている。 2人のプレーヤがゲームを行う場合には、 2つのパッ ド 2 bが使川さ れる。

第 2図は発明の実施の形態 1に係る TVゲーム機の概要を表すプロック^であ る。 この画像処理装置は、 装置全体の制御を行う C PUブロック 1 0、 ゲーム画 面の表示制御を行うビデオプロック 1 1、 効果 '·等を生成するサゥンドブロック 1 2、CD— ROMの読み出しを行うサブシステム:! 3等により構成されている。
C PUブロック 1 0は、 S CU (System Control Unit) ] 00、 メイン C PU 1 0 1、 RAM 1 02, R OM 1 03、 カートリッジ I Z F 1 a、 サブ C P U 1 04、 C PUバス ] 05等により構成されている。
C PUプロック 1 0は、 S C U (System Control Unit) 1 00、 メイン C P U 1 0 1、 RAM 1 02, ROM 1 03. カートリッジ I F 1 a、 サブ C PU 1 0 4、 0 ?11バス 1 05等により構成されている。
メイン C PU 1 0 1は、 装^全体を制御可能に構成されている。 このメイン C PU 1 0 1は、 内部に 示しない D S P (Digital Signal Processor)と同様の演 算機能を備え、 アプリケーションソフ トを高速に実行可能な構成を備えている。
RAM 1 02は、 メイン C PU 1 0 1のワークエリアとして使用可能に構成さ れている。 R0M 1 03には、初期処理用のイニシャルプログラム等が裏き込れ、 当該装置の初期立ちヒげを可能に構成されている。 S CU 1 00は、バス ] 05、 1 06 , 1 0 7を制御することにょり、 メィンじ 1)1; 1 0 ]、 0?】 20、 1 30、 D S P 1 4 0、 C PU 1 4 1などの相互間のデータを人出力可能に構成さ れている。
また、 SCU 1 00は、 内部に DMAコントローラを備え、 ゲーム中のセグメ ントを構成する表示要素の両像データ (ポリゴンデータ等) をビデオプロック 1 1内の VRAMに転送する可能に構成されている。
カー卜リツジ I /'F 1 aは、 ROMカートリツジの形態で供給される £録媒体 からプログラムデ一夕や画像デ一夕を C PUプロックに転送可能に構成されてい る。
サブ C PU 1 04は、 SMP C (System Manager & Peripheral Cntroller)と呼 ばれるもので、 メイン C P U 1 0 1からの要求に応じた、 周辺装置 2 bから操作 データを第 1図のコネクタ 2 aを介して収集可能に構成されている。
メイン C PU 1 0 1はサブ C PU 1 04から受け取った操作信号に基づき、 例え ばゲーム画面中のキヤラクタの回転変換や透視変換などの画像制御を行う。 コネ クタ 2 aには、 パッ ド、 ジョイスティ ック、 キーボ一ド等のうちの任意の周辺装 ί を接^可能に構成されている。 サブ C P U 1 04は、 コネクタ 2 a (本体側端 l(i 子) に接続された周辺装置の種類を自動的に認識し、 周辺装 の揷類に応じた通 信方式に従い、 操作 号等を収集する機能を備えている。
ビデオブロック 1 1は、 第 1の V D P (Video Display Processor)】 20、 V R AM CDRAM) 1 2 1、 フレームバッファ 1 22、 1 23、 笫 2の VDP 1 3 0、 V R A M 1 31およびフレームメモリ 1 32を備えて構成されている。
第 1の VDP 120は、 システムレジス夕を内葳し VRAM (DRAM) 1 1、 フレームバッファ 1 22、 1 23に接続され、 TVゲームのポリゴンからな るセグメント (:キャラクタ) 等を生成可能に構成されている。 第 2の VDP 1 3 0は、 レジス夕及びカラー RAMを内蔵するとともに、 VKAM1 3 1およびフ レームメモリ 132に接続され、 背景 «像の描両、 プライオリティ (表示優先順 位) に基づくセグメン卜 I由 ί像データと背 - 像デ一夕との 1 像合成、 クリッピン グ処理、 表示 の指定等の各種処理を" ί能に構成されている。
VRAM 1 21は、 メイン C PU 1 0 1から転送された T Vゲームのキャラク 夕を表すポリゴンデータ (」 点座標の集合) および視野変換のための変換マトリ クスデータを格納可能に構成されている。
フレームバッファ 1 22および 123は、 ポリゴンデータ等に基づいて第 1の VD P 120が生成した U像データ(例えば、 1 6または 8ビッ 卜/ ί素(pixel) の形式で生成されたもの) を格納可能に構成されている。
V RAMI 31は、 メイン C PU 10 1から S CU 1 00を介して供給された 背景画像デー夕を格納可能に構成されて 、る。
メモリ 132は、 第 2の VD P 1 30力、 ^景 '像デ一夕と第 1の V D P 1 2 0から送られてきたテクスチャマッピングが施されたボリゴンの画像データとを、 ¾示優先順位 (プライオリティ) を定めて合成することにより生成され ¾終的な 表示幽'像データを格納可能に構成されている。 ]7 エンコーダ 1 60は、 この表示画像デ一タに同期信号等を付加することにより 映像信号を生成し、 T V受像機に出力可能に構成されている。
サゥンドブロック 1 2は、 PC M方式あるいは F M方式に従 L、 声合成を行う D S P 1 0と、この D S P 1 40の制御等を行う C PU 14 1とを備えている。 D S P 140は、 音 ¾ "を D/ Aコンバータ 1 70により 2チャンネルの に変換し後に 2つのスピーカ 5 aに出力可能に構成されている。
サブシステム 1 3は、 CD— ROMドライブ 1 b、 CD I /' F 1 80、 MP EG AUD I 0182、MPEG V I D E 01 83等により構成されている。 このサブシステム 1 3は、 C D— ROMの形態で供給されるアプリケーションソ フ卜ウェアを読み込み、 動画の再生等を行う機能を備えている。 CD - ROMド ライブ 1 bは CD— ROMからデ一夕を読み取るものである。 C PU 1 8 1は、 C D— R 0 Mドライブ 1 bの制御、 及び、 読み取られたデ一夕の誤り訂正等の処 理が可能に構成されている。 CD— ROMから読み取られたデータは、 CD I ZF 1 80、 ノくス 106、 S CU 1 00を介してメイン C PU 10 1に供給され、 アプリケーションソフトウェアとして利用される。 また、 MPEG AUD I O 182、 MPEG V I DE01 83は、 MPEG規格(Motion Picture Expert Group)により圧縮されたデータを復元するデバイスである。 これらの MP E G AUD I 01 82 , MP E G V i D E 01 83を用いて C D— R OMに書き込 まれた M P E G圧縮デ一夕の復元を行うことにより、 動励'の f¾生を行うことが可 能となる。
第 4 図はこの発明の実施の形態 1の装置の処理の動作を説明するための図であ る。 第 5図は、 第 4図の A— A面を矢印の方から見た断面図である。
第 4図は、 ゲーム中のあるステージにおいて、 仮想空問内に、 二次元で定義さ れた地形図データに ¾づく地形セグメントを形成した場合に、 この地形の水平面 T/JP /01912
18 上.方から仮想 間を観察した場合の平面^である。同図において、 5 0は視点(以 下、 理解を^易にするために視点をカメラに Eき換えて説明する) の移動経路、 5 1はプレ一ャが操作する操作キャラクタ、 5 2は敵キャラクタ、 5 3は進路上 にある障害物 (石† )、 5 4、 5 5は斜面 (^)、 5 6、 5 7は台地である。 この 図からわかるように、 キャラクタ 5 1は、 斜面 5 4、 5 5で !井|まれた通路を塞ぐ 敵キャラクタ 5 2を排除して、 図の右の出に Iに到逮するというのがゲーム処理の 流れである。 この出口を出れば次のステージに行くことができる。
当該ゲーム装^では、 冒頭、 このステージを説明するために、 カメラを移動終 路 5 0に沿って移動させて、 このステージにおける地形の全景を表示させる。 途 中、点 P 1〜P 4では所定のメッセージが表小 ·ΐϋ像と併せて ¾示される。例えば、 点 Ρ 1では、 斜面 5 5を下から上へ兄 1·.げて、 プレーヤに斜面の稃度を視覚的に 知らせるとともに、「この斜面を登るのは人変だ」 とか「この斜 ίίιίを滑り落ちると けがをする」 といったメッセージが表示される。 また、 点 Ρ 2では敵キャラクタ についての説明が、 点 Ρ 3では障害物 5 3についての説明が、 点 Ρ 4では、 点 Ρ 1とは逆に斜面を fろして、プレーヤに斜 [ήιの程^を視覚的に知らせる。なお、 点 Ρ 1〜Ρ 4はあらかじめ決められている。 また、 プレーヤの操作により任意の 位置を設定するようにしてもよい。
次のこの発明の実施の形態 1の装置の動作につ 、て、 第 3図のフローチャート に基づき説明する。 この実施の形態 1は、 シミュレーションゲームの冒頭で視点 の移動方法を工夫して、 すなわち、 カメラワークを駆使して、 地形上の要所を説 明してみせるためのものである。 主に、 C P U 1 0 1が処理を行う。
地形の説明の際、 力メラを水平 iii上の移動だけでなく高さ方向の動きも交えて 三次元的に動かすことで、 二次元 標である視野変換した画像であっても、 地形 の立体感を認識させることができる。 また、 そのステージにおいて、 実際に操作 キャラクタが遭遇する 「物」 をデモンストレーションする。 カメラの動かし方は プログラムにより設計者の任, に設定することが可能である。 また、 メッセージ を表示する特定の地点を設定する。 メッセ一ジを表/くする際、 カメラの移動を - - 旦停 する。 プレーヤにメッセージを読ませるためである。 プレーヤが何からの 操作をすると、 Wびカメラが移動を続ける。 その後、 説明したばかりの地形上で そのステージのゲームがスター卜する。
ステップ S T 1
地形図データチェックモードに入る。 地形 [¾|データチェックモードとは、 プレ ィの前に各ステージの状況を把握するために、 そのステージ全体を観察するため のモードである。 このモードに入ると、 あらかじめ定められたカメラ経路 5 0力く 用, されて、 この経路に'ぬってカメラが移動を開始する。 なお、 このモードでは 操作キャラクタと敵キャラクタとの間で 「戦闘」 は生じない。
ステップ S丁 2
カメラ位置の移動が開始する。カメラの移動は第 6 ¾及び第 7図に小-すように、 図の左側から始まり、 右側の障害物 5 3まで達する。 そしてそこで反 feして台地 5 7上を通過して元の位置まで戻る。 この間、 カメラの視線は前方下方向を向い ている。 このカメラの方向はあらかじめ定められている力 \任意に変化させても、 プレーヤに選択させるようにしてもよい。
また、 第 6図及び第 7図からわかるように、 カメラの高さは移動しつつ変化す る。 例えば、 障害物 5 3の直前で上昇し、 その後急降下して障害物 5 3をアップ で捕らえるようにしている。 また、 逆方向に動き始めるときに上昇してこのステ —ジにおける地形全体を収めるようにし、 また、 斜面 5 5を兌ドろすときには降 下して斜面ぎりぎりまで近づ 、ている。 このようにさまざまな動きをさせること で表示される闸 tfiiが変化に富み、 非常に面白味のある効果的な肉 '面が得られる。 このように、 仮想空問内をカメラを l if 在に移動させることにより、 まるで映 画のようなパン、 ズーム、 アップといった効果が得られる。
ステップ S T 3
カメラを移動させる途中でメッセ一ジを 示するかどうか判断する。 表示させ ないとき (N O ) には、 ステップ S T 2に戻りカメラ移動を継統する。 他方、 メ ッセージ表示させるとき (Y E S ) には、 ステップ S T 4に進みメッセージを ¾ 示する。
第 4図で説明したように、 メッセージを ¾ する点 P 1〜P 4はあらかじめ定 められている。 したがって、 この例では 4つのメッセージが衷示される。
ステップ S T 4
メッセージを表示する。 例えば、 点 P 3にカメラが徐々に近づいていくと、 力 メラを急 h昇し、 第 8図に示すような俯瞰するような画面が得られる。 このよう なカメラ位置により障害物 5 3の全休の大きさ、 形状がわかる。 そして、 カメラ が点 P 3に達すると、 ステップ S T 3の判断によりメッセージを表示する。 この ときのカメラの位置は障害物 5 3の問近である。 この障害物 5 3をァップで表示 しながら、 I由— ί面 hにメッセージウインドー 6 0が現れ、 この中にキャラクタの顔 を表示するサブウィンド一 6 1表示される。 メッセージウィンド一 6 0の中には さまざまなメッセージ 6 2が表^される。 例えば、 「(キャラクタの名前) ここに は何か仕掛けがありそうだ _1 のごとくである。
なお、このウインドーは透明にして背景画像を極力隠さないようにしてもよい。 また、 ウィンド一を複数設けて、 複数のキャラクタ問で会話するような演出にし てもよい。
このメッセージが表示されている間はカメラは移動しない。 プレーヤにメッセ —ジの内容を十分確認させるためである。 プレーヤが所 Άίτのコマンドを人力する ことにより停 lh状態は解除され、 経路 5 0に沿って移動を再開する。 なお、 プレ
—ャのコマンドを待つことなく、 あらかじめ定められた. 定時 ff だけメッセージ を表示するようにしてもよい。
ステップ S丁 5
終了かどうか判断する。 経路 5 0の終点に達したか、 すなわち出発点に戻った かどうか判断し、 終了していないとき (N O )、 ステップ S T 2に戻る。終了した とき (Y E S )、 この地形図データチェックモードを終了する。
以上のように、 この発明の実施の形態 1の装置によれば、 三次元的に表現され た地形セグメン卜を表示するシミュレーションゲームにおいて、 衷小し由 ί像を に スクロールさせるのでなく、 カメラを三次元的に動かして地形全休をプレーヤに 見せるので、 地形が立体的に構成されているのことを実感させることができる。 また、 地形図データチヱックモードでは、 非常に多様なカメラ位置から地形を見 ることができる。 通常使用しないカメラ位置からの画面の表示 (例えば、 非常に 高い位置から全体を見渡すこと、 地表面から見上げること、 崖きりぎりに近づく こと) も可能なので、 非常にインパク トのある ¾ (由 ί像を表示することもでき、 プレーヤの興味をひくことが期待できる。 また、 三次元で構成された操作キャラ ク夕の行動空間を示すことで、 三次元空間における戦略を考えさせることができ る。
なお、 上記説明ではカメラの向いている方向 (視線) について 定した場合に ついて説明したが、 この発明の実施の形態 1の装置はこれに限らないのはいうま でもない。 例えば、 第 1 0図に示すように、 カメラが経路 5 0に沿って移動する ときに、 カメラの視線が図において三 ]形で示されている特定の目標をずつと追 うようにしてもよい。 この場合、 目標が車両であれば、 前方からやってくる車両 をすれ違いざまに振り返るような、 あたかも映画の 1シーンのような画 ίπが得ら れる。 また、 カメラの移動は平面上の移動に限らず、 乘直面卜.の移動であっても よいのは、 言うまでもない。
く発明の実施の形態 2、
この発明の実施の形態 2の装置にっ 、て説明する。
第 1 1冈はこの装置の動作の概略フローチヤ一卜である。 第 1 2図ないし第 1 5図はこの裟 [Sの動作を説明するための図である。
第 1 2冈はカーソル 6 3とその周囲に表示されるアイコン 6 4を^す。 この力 一ソル 6 3は、 ¾本面面の表示時や、 移動選択画面の表示時に表示される。 アイ コンとしては、矢印ゃバッ印の表示形態があり、それぞれ固有の意味を持たせる。 ノ ソ印のアイ コン 6 4 aが表示される時は、 バッ印がある方向 (図では上) には キャラクタが移動できないことを意味する。 矢印 1つのアイコン 6 4 1)が¾小さ れる時は、 矢印が示す方向 (図では下) にキャラクタが移動できて、 その際に消 費されるコスト (ゲームの継続を可能とする持ち点のようなパラメ一夕をいう) は矢印 1つ分であることを意味する。 同様に、 矢印 2つのアイコン 6 4 (:、 矢印 3つのアイコン 6 4 dが表 される時は、 ぞれぞれの移動コス卜は矢印一-つのと きの 2倍や 3倍となることを意味する。
第 1 3図は、 カーソル 6 3とアイコン 6 4の他の表示形態の例である。 この図 では、 力一ソル 6 3及びアイコン 6 4の下には、 それぞれの影 6 3 s、 6 4 s力 表示されている。 この表示は、 この力一ソルに対応するキャラクタが飛行能力を 有する場合に用いられる。 このように影を付することにより、 あたかもカーソル が空中を浮遊しているかのように感じられ、 そのキャラクタに与えられる機能上 の特徴を強調し認識させることができる。 また、 キャラクタの機能に応じて力一 ソルの表示を変えることができる。 操作キャラクタに設定する性別を 「男性」 と する力、、「女性 I とする力、に応じ、 カーソルの色をそれぞれ— と赤にしてもよい。 また、 強力なキャラクタの力一ソルは太く し、 弱いキャラクタのカーソルは細く すること力、'考えられる。
また、 影の描き方である力、'、 仮想的な空問位置からの光線に基づき描くように してもよいし、 地形の形状にあわせて表現するようにしてもよい。 あるいは簡単 に力一ソル 6 3やアイコン 6 4を—重 示することにより、 影を描くようにして もよい。
第 1 4図はカーソル 6 3が表示されるときの画面の例である。 地形に沿って設 けられるグリッ ド 6 5上を力一ソル 6 3は移動する。 この図からわかるように、 カーソル 6 3のある地点が平面である力、、 斜面 5 4である力、、 それとも、 台地 5 6であるかによりカーソル 6 3の周囲に表示されるアイコンは変化する。
次に動作について第 1 1図のフローチヤ一トを用いて説明する。
この発明の実施の形態 2の装置は、 シミユレーションゲームにおいてキャラク 夕等を操作したり、あるいは任意の位置の地形の形状、状態等の状況を調べたり、 敵キャラク夕の属性情報を表示させるために用いられる力一ソルに関するもので あり、 その際に、 カーソルに隣接する地形データ等を表 させるためのものであ る。 すなわち、 カーソルで特定した地形のみならず、 その地形に隣接した地形の 情報をも提示することによって、 連続した地形ヒの関連性をわかりやすく表示す ることができる。
ステップ S T 1 0
カーソル 6 3に隣接するグリッ ド 6 5の情報を得る。 力一ソル 6 3の位置にお ける地形情報とその周囲の地形情報を得て、 これらに基づき移動できるかどうか を判断する。 移動できるときにはどの程度のコストが必要かを求める。 第 1 4図 に示すように、 カーソル 6 3はグリッ ド 6 5に' ってさまざまな位置に移動する ことができる。 力一ソル 6 3が平面上にあるときはカーソルとその周 IS1の状況と 2 にあまり変化はない。 一方、 カーソル 6 3が斜面 5 4にあるときは、 その傾斜に 方向には大きく状況が変化し、 傾斜の力 Ί と 交する方向にはあまり状況が変わ らない。 このように、 カーソル 6 3の位置によりさまざまに変化する周囲の地形 情報を得る。

当該グリッ ドの方向の条件を求める。 移動するために消費するコストは、 移動 する 2点問の傾きで決まる。 傾きは力一ソル 6 3と隣接するグリッ ド 6 5の高さ の差でも表わされる。 各グリッ ドの高さは、 あらかじめ設定されており、 その さの指標は一定の基準値に基づき定量化されているとする。
傾きの程度とその高さの指標との関係は次のように分類される。

全てのグリッ ドで終了したかどうか判定する。 この実施の形態のように力一ソ ル 6 3が四 ¾形をしているときは 4回処理を繰り返す必要がある。
ステップ S T 1 3
ステップ S T 1 1で求めた条件に基づき、 力一ソルの周囲にアイコンで条件を 表示する。 例えば、 hの例で Xのときはバッ印 6 4 aのアイコンを表^し、 1の ときは矢印 1つのアイコン 6 4 bを表示し、 2のときは矢印 2つのアイコン 6 4 cを表示し、 3以上のときは矢印 3つのアイコン 6 4 を¾示する。 なお、 矢印 が 4つ以上のアイコンを用いるようにしてもよい。
なお、 以上の説明において、 力一ソル 6 3の周 I用に^示するアイコン 6 4を周 辺との高度差 (傾き度) に¾づき決めたが、 これに限らない、 力一ソルの周囲の 地形状況を表現するために、 例えば、 周囲の地¾面の状態 (¾れ地か、 草地か、 舗装されているか、 等) に基づき決めるようにしてもよい。 また、 この種の状態 と高度差との両方に基づき決めるようにしてもよい。
以. hのように、 この発明の実施の形態 2によれば、 力一ソルで指定された位置 に隣接した地形の高度差等の情報を特定し、 その結果を力一ソルのまわりに^^ するようにしたので、 力一ソルで指定した地形のみならず、 それに隣接した地形 との連続性をわかりやすく表示することができる。
また、 ある地形から他の地形への移動できるか否かを容易に判断できる。 さら に、 三次元的な地形のつながりが容易に確認できる。 さらに、 カーソルのまわり の三次元空間の構成がある程度同時に確認できる等の効果も奏する。
なお、 力一ソルはプレーヤが任意に指定万能であって、 地形が変化した際も同 様に対応が可能であることは、 うまでもない。 2(i また、 力一ソルの形状は図示した形態によらず極々に変形が" J能である。 つま り、 移動に必要な登坂力をプレーヤに ¾示できるような形態であれば、 、かなる 形態であってもよい。 例えば、 必要な登坂力を表示できるものであればなんでも よい。
また、 カーソル 6 3の周 itflの情報を得る点では、 1 5 !のように表示しても よい。 同図は、 カーソル 6 3の周囲に存在するキャラクタ 5 1について、 その休 力値 (H P )、魔法力 (M P ) を数値で表示させる場合を示している (この図では 数値そのものは表示していない)。カーソル 6 3の周囲の 8つの柞内にあるキャラ クタの情報をそこに^示させることができる。 さらに離れた位 Eにあるキャラク 夕 (例えば、 パ'ッ印のキャラクタ 5 2 ) の情報は^示されない。 このように、 プ レーャはカーソル 6 3を任意の位置に動かすことにより周囲のキャラクタについ てなんらかの情報を得ることができる。
<発明の突施の形態 3
この発明の実施の形態 3の装置につ L、て説明する。
この発明の ¾施の形態 3の装置は、 :次兀的に地形セグメン卜が構成されたシ ミユレ一ションゲームに用いられるものであって、 ゲーム中にキャラクタ等が落 下(地形の高さ方向の逆方向への移動をいう) したときに、その高度差によって、 キャラクタ等に与.える影響 (ダメージ) や移動方向を変化させるものである。 す なわち、 起点となる点から隣接した地形との^度 ¾を検^し、 落ちる方向を決 するとともに、 落下し停止する点と起点との高度差によりダメージ量を変化させ る。
この装置の動作を、 第 1 6冈の概略フローチヤ一卜に ¾づいて説明する。
ステップ S T 2 0
キャラクタが落下するかどうか判定する。 例えば、 非常に急な崖 (斜度が大き い) に飛んでいない (飛べない) キャラクタがいた場合には、 そのキャラクタは 崖下に落下する。 このとき、 斜度が浅くなる地形まで落下 (滑落) しつづける。 あるいは、 斜而などの足兀の悪いものと定義される地形で、 プレーヤの操作内容 に反して別の位置に移動したときに、 落下したものと判定する。 このとき落 fの 方向は、 傾斜の状況や落下直前のキャラクタの動き等に基づき決^される。
落卩したとき ( Y E S )、 ステップ S T 2 1に進む。その落下した高さに応じた ダメージを受ける。

落下した高度差と落下先の地形の状態を求める。 キャラクタが落下するまえに 位置した点の高さ H 2と、落下後の点の高さ H 1との差(H 2— H 1 )を求める。 また、 落ド先の地形の状態を示す指数 Sを求める。 この指数 Sは予め地形図デー 夕上で定められている。 指数 Sは、 荒れ地であるか、 草地である力、、 コンクリー 卜であるか等によって異なる。 一般に、 地面が硬かったり、 ごつごつしていたり すると指数 S (ダメージ量) は大きい。
ステップ S T 2 2
ダメ一ジ量を求める。 ダメ一ジ量は例えば次の式により求められる。
(ダメージ量) = (落下の高度差 * 4 )
この条件は、 飛行しているキャラクタが着地、 敵に弾き飛ばされた場合などに 発生する。
あるし、は落下先の状態を考慮して次の式により求めてもよい。
(ダメ一ジ量) = k ( H 2 - H 1 ) - S
ここで、 kは比例係数で、 一定値でもよいし、 ステージごと、 キャラクタごと等 に変えるようにしてもよい。
ステップ S T 2 3 キャラク夕の厲性を変化させる。 ステップ S T 2 2で求めたダメ一ジ Mに ¾づ き、 キャラクタの属性を変化させる。 キャラクタの体力 H Pを減少させることに なるが、 ダメージ I が非常に大きいときにはそのキャラクタが死亡する (ゲーム プレイを続行不可能とすること) ことも り得る。 例えば、 落ドの危険を示す標 識が ¾示された場所にキャラクタが つた場合、 キャラクタは飛行中でない限り 落下して死亡する。 飛行中であれば特に影響を受けない。
以上のように、 この発明の実施の形態 3によれば、 ゲーム中にキャラクタ等が 落下したときに、落ドする前の位^から落ドした後の位置までの高度差によって、 物体に与えるダメージゃ移動方向を変化させるので、 ゲームプレイ中に生ずる不 測の ' 故が多様な状況で提示され、 ゲームの面 Iさが増加する。 したがって、 敵 キャラクタに攻撃されること以外の要素で、 操作キャラクタがダメージを受ける ことになる。 また、 地形図データに変更を加えることで、 ダメージを大きく した り小さく したりできるので、 ゲームデザィ十一にとつて、 ゲームの面 さを演出 することのできるポイントが:^える。 また、 プレーヤにとっても、 敵キャラクタ の攻撃以外に、落ト 'によるダメ一ジを考慮に人れて操作しなければならないので、 面白さが增加する。 また、 上から下へ落ちるという演出により、 力と加速度の 存在を模擬的に表現させるでき、 現実感溢れるゲームを提供できる。
発明の実施の形態 4 、
この発明の実施の形態 4の装置について説明する。 この 施の形態は、 カメラ 位置の変化時、 操作キャラクタの移動方向とパッ ドに割り付けられた移動機能の 割り付けを整合させるものである。
第 1 8図に示すのは、 第 3冈と同じゲームのステージにおいて、 カメラをその 入 Γ 1の上方におき、 カメラの力-向を! L', 1 1の方に向かって斜め下に向けたたときの 表示画像例である。 第 1 9図は、 同じステージにおいて、 カメラを横方向の台地 5 7の上方におき、 カメラの方向を反対側の台地 5 6に向けているときの表示 [由了 像例である。 これらの図において、 ^示豳像に併せて、 時にメッセ一ジウィン ドー 6 0も表 されている。 プレーヤは複数 (図では 「 1 J と 「2」 の 2楝類) のメッセージのいずれかを選択することができる。 図では三角のマークがメッセ ージの選択を 味する。
これら図の右側に表示されている矢印は説明の便宜上に設けたものである。 各 矢印はパッ ド 2 bの方向ボタンに対応する。 Γヒ」 「下」 「右」 「左」 の文 はパッ ド 2 b上の方向ボタンに割り付けられる移動方向を示す。括弧書きの(前)(後)、 (左) (右) は、 方向ボタンを押したときに、 画面上 (すなわちこのステージの仮 想空間内)でキャラクタ力く動く方向を示す。第 1 8図の矢印は、方向ボタンの「上」 「下」「右」「左」を押すと、 キャラクタはそれぞれ仮想空間でキャラクタが向いて いる方向から見て 「前」「後」「右」「左」 に進むことを意味する。 同図においてキ ャラクタ力、' 「前進」 することは画面上で上に進むことになるから、 この対応関係 は自然である。 また、 第 1 9図の矢印は、 方向ボタンの 「上」「下」 「右」 「左」 を 押すと、 キャラクタはそれぞれ仮想空間でキャラクタが向いている方向から見て 「左」「右」 「前」「後」 に進むことを意味する。 つまり、 「右」 ボタンを押すとキヤ ラク夕が前進し画面上を右に進むことになるから、 この対応関係も自然である。 この第 1 9図の矢印における対応関係は、 第 1 7図のフローチヤ一卜に従った 処理が行われて初めて得られるものである。 この処理が行われないと、 例えば、 第 1 9図の場合では、 方向ボタンの 「上」「卜'」「右」「左」 を押すと、 キャラクタ はそれぞれ仮想空間でキャラク夕が向いている方向から ϋて「右」「左」「下」「上」 に進むことになり、 対応関係が不自然になる。
ところで単純に方向ボタンとキャラクタの動く方向とを -致させると、 メッセ —ジの選択のときに問題になる。 メッセージウィンド一 6 0は、 第 1 8図及び第 1 9図いずれの場合でも同じ^示がされるので、 方^ボタンの割り付けを異なら せるとかえつて不 ΓΙ然になるからである。 第 1 7冈のフローチヤ一卜はこの点も 考慮したものである。
次に、 この発明の ¾施の形態 4の装置の動作について第 1 7 のフローチヤ一 卜に基づき説明する。
ステップ S T 3 0
操作の種類の判定をする。 この判定は、 メッセージ人力とキャラクタ操作とで キーの割り付けが異なるためになされる。 キャラクタ操作であるときはステップ S T 3 1に進み、 メッセージ入力であるときはステップ S T 3 5に進む。
ステップ S T 3 1
座標が一致するかどうか判定する。 すなわち、 キャラクタが移動する仮想空間 內におけるキャラクタの向いている方向と、 視点からの視線の方向とが互いに-- - 致しているか、 それとも異なる方向に向いているか判定する。 一致していないと き (N O )、 ステップ S T 3 2に進み、 - -致しているとき (Y E S )、 ステップ S T 3 4に進む。
ステップ S T 3 2
方向が一致していないときにキャラクタが いている方向と視線の方向とのな す角度を求める。 例えば、 第 1 8図の場合はこれらの方向は一致していると判定 され、 第 1 9 l iの場合はキャラクタの向いている方向に対して、 視線の方向が左 に 9 0度回転していると判定される。 すなわち、 視線の方向は、 仮想 ¾間で卨さ を示す軸 (Z軸) を屮心に反時計 Wりに視点座標系を回転したものとなり、 回転 角度は 9 0度となる。

冋転角に応じてキーの割り付けを変更する。 例えば次のように変更する。 方向ボタン 「上」 「下」 「右」 「左」

なお、 回転角がこれらの中間の値をとるときは、 9 0度単位に割り付けられる 上記区分のうち、 いずれの区分により近いかにより対応関係を定める。

-方、 Ζ軸方向が --致しているときは、 キーの割り付けを基準設定にする。 例 えば、 回転角が 0度のときの設定にする。

また、 メッセージ入力であるときは、 キーの割り付けを基準設定にする。 メッ セージウィンド一 6 0の表示は、 冋転 ^度に関らず同じ表示態様であるからであ る。 例えば、 0度の設定にする。
なお、 第 1 7図のフローチャートは -例である。 メッセージウィンド一の操作 とキャラクタの操作とを区別し、 それぞれについてキーの割り付けを行うように すれば、 他の処理手順によりキーの割り付けを変更してもよい。 例えば、 すでに 設定されているキーの割り付けを変更する必要がなければステップ S T 3 3、 S Τ 3 4を行う必要はない。 また、 ステップ S T 3 0と S T 3 1の順序を逆にして もよい。
以上のように、 この発明の実施の形態 4によれば、 カメラ位置の変化時、 方向 ボタンの割り付けを、 キャラクタの向いている方向と視線の方向とのなす角度に 基づき定めるので、 視点位置が変化した際、 プレーヤの操作感覚に適合した割り 付けに変更することができる。 したがって、 視点位置の変更に影響されず、 不 fil 然なく操作を続行させることができる。
特に、 二次兀で定義したシミュレーションゲームでは、 カメラ位置がどこであ るかによりキャラクタが かったり、 難かったりするので、 カメラ位置の変 更は重要である。 そのとき、 本発明によれば操作が ΰ然になるようにキーの割り 付けを設定するので、 違和感なく操作を^けられる。 つまり、 プレーヤは、 地形 全体を把握しやすい位置にカメラ位置を変えることができ、 カメラ位置を変えて も操作に支^が及ばない。
なお、 操作の判定で〖キャラクタ操作」か「メッセージ入力」かを区別したが、 これに限らない。 例えば、 操作がキャラクタの移動に関するかどう力、、 操作が仮 想空間内に関するかどうかについて判定するようにしてもよい。
操作がキャラクタの移動に関するものではないと判定される場合は、 例えば、 キャラクタの動きに直接関係しない、 仮想空間内の地形、 樹木、 -石、 その他の 表示セグメントに対する操作や、 キャラクタを含むセグメントの Κ件 (装備、 武 器、 道 、 色、 技等) の変更などである。
操作が仮想空間内に関するものではないと判^される場合とは、 例えば、 仮想 空間の座標とは直接関係しない表示 Ι*ί像 (例えば、 ゲームの^定ゃキャラクタの 設定等の初期設定 (由 j面、ゲームの途中でパラメ一夕の変更をするための設定画面、 メッセージウィンドー等) が表示されている場合である。 産業上の利用可能性
以上のように、 この発明によれば、 二次元で定義された仮想空問内において視 点を任意に移動可能にするとともに、 好適な操作環境を提示することができる。 また、 この発明によれば、 カーソルの指小位置の周囲の情報を ¾示することを 可能にし、 好適な操作環境を提示することができる。 また、 この発明によれば、 二次元で定義された地形が操作対象セグメ ン トに与- える影稗を考慮し、 好適な操作環境を提 することができる。
また、 この発明によれば、 仮想 ¾問における操作対象セグメン卜の向きと視野 変換のための視線の方向との整合を図るので、 好適な操作環境を提示することが できる。
つまり、 操作し ¾く、 かつ、 迫力のある表 画像を提示でき、 ゲームを大いに 面 :1いものとすることができる。

1 . 仮想空間内で二次元で定義されたセグメン卜を仮想 :間内の視点から見 た両像を生成する I断像処现装置にお 、て、 ザ'め定められた仮想空間内の—:次元的 に設定された経路に沿って前; E視点を移動させる視点移動- T-段を備えることを特 徴とする画像処理装置。
2 . 前記経路には予め所定のメッセージを表 する表示点が定められており、 前記視点移動手段は、 前 ^衷示点においてメッセージを表小する第 1項に 載の 画像処理装置。
3 . ^記経路は、 複数の前記セグメン卜のそれぞれを、 各セグメントを異な る視点の位置から表示させるように設定される第 1項又は第 2 I貝に記載の画像処 理装 iS。
4 . 前記視点移動手段は、 前 経路に沿って前 視点を移動させるときに、 前記視点の参照点を Ϊ ^め定められた位置に保持する第 1 ¾乃¾第 3项の t、ずれか に¾に記載の両像処理装置。

8 . 仮想空問内で二次元で定義されたセグメントを仮想空間內の視点から兒 た画像を生成する画像処理装置にお t、て、 力一ソルを生成するカーソル生成手段 と、 遊技者の操作に基づき前記カーソルを移動させるカーソル移動手段と、 前記 カーソルの周囲にあるセグメン卜の情報を得て表示情報を生成する情報生成手段 と、 前記表示情報に基づき情報表示を行う情報表示手段と、 を備えることを特徴 とする画像処理装置。
9 . 前記情報生成手段は、 前記カーソルに与えられた移動条件とその周囲に あるセグメ ントの情報とに基づいて、 当該力一ソルが移動可能かどうか判定する とともに、移動可能なときには移動に要する負荷量を求め、前記情報表示手段は、 前記力一ソルの移動不可能な方向に移動不可能マークを表示し、 前記力一ソルの 移動可能な方向に移動可能マークをその負荷量とともに表示する第 8頃に記載の 画像処理装置。
1 0 . 前記情報生成手段は、 前記力一ソルの周囲に存在するセグメントから 属性情報を得て表示情報を生成し、 前記情報表示手段は、 £セグメ ントの近傍 に前記表示情報を表示する第 8項に記載の画像処理装置。
1 1 . 前記カーソル生成手段は、 前記セグメン卜の属性に基づき力一ソルの 表現を変更する第 8項乃至第 1 0項のいずれかに記載の画像処理装置。

1 3 . 仮想空間内で三次元で定義されたセグメン卜を仮想空間內の視点から 見た姆像を生成する両像処理方法において、 遊技者の操作に ¾づきカーソルを移 動させるカーソル移動ステップと、 カーソルの周 1にあるセグメントの情報を得 て表示情報を生成する情報生成ステップと、 前記^示情報に基づき情報表示を行 う情報表示ステップと、 を備えることを特徴とする画像処理方法。
1 4 . 仮想空問内で二次元で定義されたセグメン卜を仮想空問内の視点から ^た画像を生成する幽'像処理装置において、 セグメン卜が移動したときの移動前 及び移動後の一方あるいは両方の状態に基づき 該セグメン卜の属性の変化 itを 求める属性変化量生成手段と、 性の変化量に基づき前^セグメン卜の属性 を変化させる属性変化手段と、 を備えることを特徴とする画像処理装置。
