第 1 B図、 第 1 C図では、 基準操作を表す識別記号が表示されていたが、 第 2 A図では、 プレーヤが入力した第 1〜第 5の入力操作 6 1〜6 5を表す識別記号 が表示されている。 例えば第 2 A図では、 プレーヤが、 第 1番目に操作ボタン 1 4を押し、 第 2番目に操作ボタン 2 0を押し、 第 3番目〜第 5番目に操作ボタン 2 6を押したことが示されている。 そしてこれらの入力操作により特定される入 力手順が、 基準手順と一致するか否かが判断される。 第 2 A図では一致している ため、 ゲームキャラクタ 3 0は特殊技を繰り出し、 特殊技の成功を表す表示 3 4 が行われる。 このように、 プレーヤの入力操作を識別記号を用いて視覚的に表示 することで、 プレーヤは、 どの入力操作が成功し、 どの入力操作が失敗したかを 容易に認識できる。 これにより、 特殊技の修得を容易化できる。 この種のゲーム では、 操作の熟練、 特に特殊技の修得が困難であるため、 操作技量に自信がない プレーヤに敬遠される場合がある。 しかしながら、 本実施例によれば、 このよう な問題も解消できる。
また本実施例では、 第 2 B図に示すように、 第 1〜第 9の入力操作 7 1 ~ 7 9 が入力された場合に、 各々の操作の内容に対応する識別音 A、 B、 C , Dを順次 出力している。 そして、 これらの入力操作により特定される入力手順が、 基準手 順と一致するか否かが判断され、 一致する場合にはゲームキャラクタ 3 0による 特殊技の繰り出し、 特殊技の成功表示 3 4が行われる。 この時、 識別音に、 互い を区別させるための音程を持たせることで、 プレーヤは、 自分の入力手順の正否 を容易に認識できる。 例えば第 2、 第 4の入力操作 7 2、 7 4では、 操作ボタン 2 0が押されており、 この時には識別咅 Aが出力される。 また第 3、 第 5、 第 9 の入力操作 7 3、 7 5、 7 9では、 操作ボタン 2 2が押されており、 この時には 識別音 Aとは音程が異なる識別音 Bが出力される。 また第 6、 第 7の入力操作 7 6、 7 7では、 各々、 操作ボタン 2 4、 2 6が押されており、 この時には、 識別 音 C、 Dが出力される。 一方、 第 2 C図には、 特殊技を繰り出す条件となる基準 手順の一例が五線譜を用いて模式的に示される。 このように特殊技を繰り出すた めには、 操作ボタンを押す順序のみならず、 操作ポタンを押す微妙なタイミング まで調整することが要求される。 例えば第 2 C図の Gと Hでは、 操作ボタン 2 0、 2 2を素早く連打する必要がある。 また第 2 C図の Iでは、 所与の時間間隔を揷 入する必要がある。 このような微妙なタイ ミングの調整は、 プレーヤにとって困 難な作業である。 またこのような微妙なタイ ミングを、 ゲームソフ トに添付され るマニュアル等で説明するのは非常に困難である。
本実施例によれば、 プレーヤは、 自分が入力した操作の内容を識別音を用いて 聴覚的に認識できる。 そして、 ピアノの鍵盤を叩くようにして識別音が出力され るため、 どの操作ボタンを押したかのみならず、 操作ボタンを押したタイ ミング についても容易に認識できる。 これにより、 特殊技を繰り出すためのタイミング 調整も容易に行うことができる。
更に、 基準手順の基準タイミングに合わせて識別音を出力し、 これをプレーヤ に聞かせること、 即ち、 第 2 C図の五線譜に示されるような音を聞かせることが 望ましい。 このようにすれば、 プレーヤは、 どの操作ボタンを、 どのタイミング で押すかを聴覚的に習い覚えることができる。 そして、 ゲームコントローラを操 作することで出力される音が、 習い党えた音と一致するように練習を積み重ねる ことで、 特殊技の操作の修得が容易となる。
なお第 2 B図では、 第 1の入力操作 7 1においては識別音が出力されないが、 これを出力するようにしても構わない。 また、 複数の操作ボタンが押された場合 には、 その組み合わせにより異なる識別音が出力されるようにしてもよい。
次に、 本実施例の動作の一例を第 3図のフロチャ一トを用いて説明する。 なお、 以下では、 プレーヤが操作練習をするための練習モードに本発明を適用した場合 について説明する。 本発明は、 練習モー ドに適用した場合に特に大きな効果を有 するが、 本発明の適用範囲はこれに限られるものではない。
まず第 4 A図に示す選択画面において、 各種モードの中から練習モードを選択 する。 ここで対戦モードは、 相手プレーヤ、 コンピュータと実際に対戦を行うモ ードであり、 オプションモードは、 プレイ時間、 ゲーム条件等の各種の設定を行 うためのモードである。 次に、 第 4 B図に示す選択画面において、 プレーヤが練 習を望む特殊技を選択すると、 各特殊技の基準となる入力手順が識別記号を用い て画面下に表示される (ステップ S 1 、 S 2 ) 。 次に、 プレーヤが、 手本を示す ことをゲームコントローラを用いてコンビユー夕に指示すると、 コンピュータが 自動的に操作ボタンを操作する (ステップ S 3、 S 4 ) 。 これにより、 第 4 C図 に示すように、 コンビユー夕が操作するゲームキャラクタが特殊技の模範演技を 行う。 この時には、 基準手順にしたがった識別記号の表示、 識別音の出力が行わ れる。 プレーヤは、 これを見る或いは聞くことにより、 特殊技を繰り出す操作を、 視覚的に或いは聴覚的に習い覚えることができる。
次に、 プレーヤにより操作ボタンが操作されたか否かを判断し、 操作された場 合には各操作ボタンに対応する識別音を出力する (ステップ S 5 、 S 6及び第 2 B図) 。 この時、 識別音は、 押される操作ボタンによって異なる音程の音をピア ノのように出力する。 次に、 操作ボタンの入力タイミング、 操作ボタンの押す順 序が基準手順と一致するか否かが判断される (ステップ S 7、 S 8 ) 。 特殊技を 繰り出すためには、 操作ポタンを押す順序が合っているだけでは足りなく、 入力 タイ ミングも予めプログラムで設定されたタイミングと合っていなければならな い。 そして、 入力タイミングが遅くても或いは早くても誤入力と判定される。 次に、 基準手順と一致したところまでの識別記号を点灯させる (ステップ S 9 、 第 1 B図) 。 これにより、 連続した操作ボタン入力のどこまでが成功したかを容 易に認識することができる。 その後、 特殊技が成功したか否かを判定し (ステツ プ S 10) 、 成功した場合には全ての識別記号を点滅させる (ステップ S 1 1、 第 1。図) 。 最後に入力判定がリセッ 卜され (ステップ S 1 ) 、 ステップ S 5に 戻る。
次に本実施例を実現することができるゲーム装置のハードゥヱァ構成例につい て第 5図を用いて説明する。 同図に示すゲーム装置では、 CPU 1 000、 RO M 1002、 RAM 1 004, 情報記憶媒体 1006、 音合成 I C 1 008、 画 像合成 I C 1 01 0、 I/Oポート 10 1 2、 1 0 14が、 システムバス 1 0 1 6により相互にデ一夕送受信可能に接続されている。 そして前記画像合成 I C 1 0 1 0にはディスプレイ 1 0 18が接続され、 音合成 I C 1008にはスピーカ 1 020が接続され、 I /0ポート 10 1 2にはコントロール装置 1022が接 続され、 I/Oポート 10 14には通信装置 1 024が接続されている。
情報記憶媒体 1006は、 ゲームプログラム、 表示物を表現するための画像情 報等が主に格納されるものであり、 CD— ROM、 ゲームカセット、 DVD、 I Cカード、 MO、 FD、 メモリ等が用いられる。 例えば家庭用ゲーム装置ではゲ —ムプログラム等を格納する情報記憶媒体として CD— ROM、 ゲームカセヅ ト、 DVD等が用いられる。 また業務用ゲーム装置では ROM等のメモリが用いられ、 この場合には情報記憶媒体 1 006は ROM 1 002になる。
コントロール装置 1 022はゲームコントローラに相当するものであり、 ブレ ーャがゲーム進行に応じて行う判断の結果をゲーム装置本体に入力するための装 置である。 第 6 A図、 第 6 B図、 第 6 C図に、 ゲームコン トローラの種々の例を 示す。 第 6 A図に示すものでは、 十字キー 90を用いて方向指示を行う。 第 6 B 図に示すものでは、 把持部 92、 94が互いに冋転自在となっており、 回転させ た時の回転角度を操作情報として用いることができる。 第 6 C図に示すものは、 業務用のゲーム装置に広く用いられる操作パネルタイプのものであり、 方向指示 -段となるレバ一 96と、 操作ボタン群 98とによりゲーム操作を行う。
情報記憶媒体 1 006に格納されるゲームプログラム、 ROM 1002に格納 されるシステムプログラム、 コントロール装置 1 022によって入力される信号 等に従って、 CPU 1000は装置全体の制御や各種データ処理を行う。 RAM 1004はこの CPU 1 000の作業領域等として用いられる記憶手段であり、 情報記憶媒体 1 006や ROM 1 002の所定の内容、 あるいは CPU 1 000 の演算結果等が格納される。
更に、 この種のゲーム装置には音合成 I C 1008と画像合成 I C 1 0 1 0と が設けられていてゲーム音やゲーム画像の好適な出力が行えるようになつている。 音合成 I C 1008は情報記憶媒体 1006や ROM 1 002に記憶される情報 に基づいて効果音やバックグラウンド音楽等のゲーム音を合成する集積回路であ り、 ^成されたゲーム音はスピーカ 1 020によって出力される。 また、 画像合 成 I C 10 10は、 RAM 1 004、 ROM 1002、 情報記憶媒体 1 006等 から送られる画像情報に基づいてディスプレイ 1 0 18に出力するための画素情 報を合成する集積回路である。 なおディスプレイ 10 1 8として、 いわゆるへッ ドマウントディスプレイ (HMD) と呼ばれるものを使用することもできる。 また、 通信装置 1 024はゲーム装置内部で利用される各種の情報を外部とや りとりするものであり、 他のゲーム装置と接続されてゲームプログラムに応じた 所定の情報を送受したり、 通信回線を介してゲームプログラム等の情報を送受す ることなどに利用される。
そして第 1 B図、 第 1 C図、 第 2A図、 第 4 A図〜第 4 C図で説明した画像合 成処理、 第 2 B図、 第 2 C図で説明した音合成処理は、 第 3図のフロチャートに 示した処理等を行うゲームプログラムを格納した情報記憶媒体 1006と、 該ゲ —ムプログラムに従って動作する C PU 1 000、 画像合成 I C 1 0 1 0、 音合 成 I C 1 008等によって実現される。 なお画像合成 I C 10 10、 音合成 I C 1008等で行われる処理は、 CPU 1 000あるいは汎用の D S P等によりソ フトウェア的に行ってもよい。
第 7 A図に、 本実施例を業務用ゲーム装置に適用した場合の例を示す。 プレー ャは、 ディスプレイ 1 100上に映し出されたゲーム画像を見ながら、 レバ一 1 102、 ボタン 1 104等を操作してゲームを楽しむ。 装置に内蔵される I C基 板 1 106には、 CPU、 画像合成 I C、 音合成 I C等が実装されている。 そし て、 ゲームコントローラにより第 1番目に入力される第 1の入力操作、 第 2番目 に入力される第 2の入力操作、 第 N (Nは 2以上) 番目に入力される 第 Nの入力操作により特定される入力手順が、 所与の基準手順に一致するか否か を判断するための情報、 入力操作の一致及び不一致を示す表示の少なく とも一方 を、 各々の操作の内容を視覚的に識別するための識別 己号を用いて行うための情 報、 第 1〜第 Nの入力操作の内容を聴覚的に識別するための識別 Πを第 1〜第 N の入力操作の入力タイ ミングに合わせて順次出力するための情報等は、 I C基板 1 1 0 6上の情報記憶媒体であるメモリ 1 1 0 8に格納される。 以下、 これらの 情報を格納情報と呼ぶ。 これらの格納情報は、 上記の種々の処理を行うためのプ ログラムコード、 画像情報、 t 情報、 表示物の形状情報、 テーブルデ一夕、 リス トデータ、 プレーヤ情報等の少なくとも 1つを含むものである。
第 7 B図に、 本実施例を家庭用のゲーム装置に適用した場合の例を示す。 プレ —ャはディスプレイ 1 2 0 0に映し出されたゲーム画像を見ながら、 ゲ一ムコン トロ一ラ 1 2 0 2、 1 2 0 4を操作してゲームを楽しむ。 この場合、 上記格納情 報は、 本体装置に着脱自在な情報記憶媒体である C D— R O M 1 2 0 6、 I C力 ード 1 2 0 8、 1 2 0 9等に格納されている。
第 7 C図に、 ホスト装置 1 3 0 0と、 このホスト装置 1 3 0 0と通信回線 1 3 0 2を介して接続される端末 1 3 0 4 -1〜 1 3 0 4 -nとを含むゲーム装置に本実 施例を適用した場合の例を示す。 この場合、 上記格納情報は、 例えばホスト装置 1 3 0 0が制御可能な磁気ディスク装置、 磁気テープ装置、 メモリ等の情報記憶 媒体 1 3 0 6に格納されている。 端末 1 3 0 4 - 1〜 1 3 0 4 -nが、 C P U、 画像 合成 I C、 音合成 I Cを有し、 スタンドアロンでゲーム画像、 ゲーム音を合成で きるものである場合には、 ホスト装置 1 3 0 0からは、 ゲーム画像、 ゲーム音を 合成するためのゲームプログラム等が端末 1 3 0 4 - 1〜 1 3 0 4 - nに配送される。 一方、 スタンドアロンで合成できない場合には、 ホス ト装置 1 3 0 0がゲーム画 像、 ゲーム音を合成し、 これを端末 1 3 0 4 - 1〜 1 3 0 4 - nに伝送し端末におい て出力することになる。
なお、 本発明は、 上記実施例で説明したものに限らず、 種々の変形実施が可能 である。
例えば入力手順、 基準手順を構成する入力操作、 基準操作は、 本実施例で説明 したものに限られるものではない。 また識別記号、 識別音も本実施例で例示した ものに限らず、 プレーヤの識別を容易にするための種々の工夫を施すことができ る。
また基準手順と入力手順の一致を示す手法は、 第 1 B図、 第 1 C図に示すよう な手法に限らず、 例えば一致した識別記号のみを ¾示する等の種々の手法を採用 できる。
また本発明は、 格闘技ゲームの特殊技の操作入力に適用した場合に特に効果が あるが、 本発明の適用範囲はこれに限られるものではなく、 例えばスポーツゲー ム (テニス、 野球、 スキー、 サッカー等) 、 競争ゲーム (車、 馬、 ボート等) 、 シュ一ティングゲーム、 R P Gゲーム等、 種々のゲームに適用できる。 また本発 明は、 練習モードに適用した場合に特に有効だが、 練習モードのみならず、 相手 プレーヤとの実際の対戦モード等においても適用できるものである。
また本発明は、 家庭用、 業務用のゲーム装置のみならず、 シミュレータ、 多数 のプレーヤが参加する大型アトラクション装置、 パーソナルコンピュータ、 マル チメディァ端末、 ゲーム画像を合成する I C基板等の種々のゲーム装置に適用で きる。

請 求 の 範 囲
( 1 ) ゲーム画像の合成を行うための I 像合成方法であって、
ゲームコントローラにより第 1番 Iに入力される第 1の入力操作、 第 2番目に 入力される第 2の人力操作、 第 N ( Nは 2以上) 番目に入力される第
Nの入力操作により特定される入力手順が、 所与の基準手順に一致するか否かを 判断すると共に、
入力操作の一致及び不一致を示す表示の少なくとも一方を、 各々の操作の内容 を視覚的に識別するための識別記号を用いて行うことを特徴とする画像合成方法。
( 2 ) 請求項 1において、
前記基準手順を特定する第 1〜第 Nの基準操作の内容を識別記号を用いて予め 表示しておき、 第 1〜第 M ( M≤N ) の入力操作が第 1〜第 Mの基準操作に一致 した場合には、 一致した第 1〜第 Mの基準操作の識別記号の表示状態を変化させ ることを特徴とする画像合成方法。
