A device for storing liquid, in particular aggressive liquid, which consists of a closable container (1) provided with at least one opening (5) for filling and/or draining purposes, wherein a second container (6) is arranged around the closable container (1) with a filling capacity equal to that of the closable container (1) and with a height smaller than that of the closable container (1), which second container (6) is provided with means for transporting the assembly (7, 8, 9), so that when the first container (1) springs a leak the liquid can be collected in the second container (6), while the printing on the first container (1) relating to the content thereof still remains visible.

Description

DEVICE FOR STORING LIQUID, IN PARTICULAR AGGRESSIVE LIQUID
The invention relates to a device for storing liq¬ uid, in particular aggressive liquid, which device con¬ sists of a closable container provided with at least one opening for filling and/or draining purposes. Such containers are usually filled by the supplier of the liquid and subsequently transported to the user, who stores these containers in a cabinet which may or may not be protected. In use the container is connected to a discharge system and the container remains in the posi- tion of use for some time.
There is the danger in storing and transporting such containers of the container being damaged and springing a leak whereby the aggressive liquid can flow away, which can have an adverse impact on the environment and the users.
The invention has for its object to provide a device which obviates the above mentioned problems and provides for this purpose a device which is distinguished in that a second container is arranged around the closable con- tainer with a filling capacity equal to that of the closable container and with a height smaller than that of the closable container, which second container is provid¬ ed with means for transporting the assembly.
Due to the second container, which is arranged around the first container and has a filling capacity equal to that of the first container, the liquid will be collected in the second container when the first contain¬ er springs a leak. The lower height of the second con¬ tainer relative to the first container ensures that it remains possible to discern the printing on the upper edge indicating which liquid is stored in the first closable container.
It is recommended according to the invention to embody the transport means of the second container such that the second container can be used with the prongs of a fork-lift truck or the like. For this purpose the second container according to the invention is embodied such that the transport means are formed by support members which are arranged under the bottom of the second container and which bound two parallel groove-like chan¬ nels opening into the side wall of the second container and suitable for the insertion of lifting members of a transport means such as a fork-lift truck.
In this embodiment it is recommended to give the transport means a hollow form and that they are in commu¬ nication with the storage space of the second container, whereby the filling capacity of the second container is optimized.
It is further recommended to embody the second container more or less polygonal, in particular square, in horizontal cross section, whereby storage of the containers next to each other is facilitated and the distance between these containers is ensured. The square shape moreover results in a more favourable filling capacity of the second container.
Above mentioned and other features of the invention will be further elucidated in the figure description of two embodiments hereinbelow. In the drawing: fig. 1 shows an upright section of the second con- tainer according to the invention provided with a clos¬ able container placed therein; fig. 2 shows a side view rotated through 90° of the container of fig. 1; fig. 3 shows a horizontal section through the second container of fig. 1; fig. 4 shows an alternative embodiment of the second container suitable for completely encasing the closable first container.
Indicated in fig. 1 with the numeral 1 is the clos- able first container, which can have a random shape but is usually embodied as cylindrical body, with a bottom 2, standing side wall 3 and a cover or upper wall 4, which is provided with a filling aperture 5. Using this filling aperture 5 it is possible to fill the container with liquid, which usually takes place at the supplier of the liquid, who closes and locks this filling aperture 5, whereafter the user, after removing the locking, opens the aperture 5 and provides it with a draining means, for instance a tube, which is not shown here. Placed according to the invention round the first closable container 1 is a second container 6 which is embodied here as a thin-walled plastic product manufac¬ tured as an integral unit.
A supporting base 7 serves to support the bottom 2 of the first container. On the underside of the container are arranged protuberances 8 which serve as support members but which are placed such that channels 9 are bounded therebetween which debouch at the side into the standing side wall of the second container. The channel 9 can serve to receive prongs of a fork-lift or the like. Prom fig. l can be seen that the height of the second container is lower than that of the first contain¬ er, so that the upper part of the outside wall of the first container remains legible for the user who can therefore discern which liquid is held in the container. Fig. 3 shows that the horizontal cross section of the second container is substantially square and has rounded corners 11. Since the first container l here takes a circular form, spaces are formed in the corners which contribute towards enlarging the filling capacity of the second container 6, whereby this latter can be lower than the first container, so that in the case of leakage from the first container the liquid does not come out of the second container, even if the first container is completely filled. Furthermore, the hollow support members 8 also contribute towards enlargement of the filling capacity of the second container.
In the embodiment as shown in fig. 1 and 2 the upper edge 12 of the second container takes a narrowed form and practically connects onto the outside wall of the first container 1. This edge therefore serves as centering member so that during transport the first container l will not rock too much relative to the second container. Within the same scope the narrowed edge can be replaced by inwardly projecting bulges evenly divided over the inner circumference of said opening edge 12. In fig. 3 can be seen that the upper edge 12 is embodied with an outwardly projecting bulge 13 which serves to enable insertion of an immersion tube or the like into the second container along the outer wall of the first container, whereby possible liquid can be drained without having to tilt the container. For the same reasons it is also possible to provide for a closable opening 13• in the shoulder part near the corner 11 (see fig. 4) . Such an opening 13' also allows an easy emptying of the second container by turning over the assembly of said container. If desired, the second container can be embodied with handles to enable transport by hand.
Fig. 4 shows an embodiment wherein the second con¬ tainer 6 is lengthened in upward direction with a part 14, the upper edge 15 of which extends above the first container 1. This upper edge can be provided with a closure 16.
This embodiment is suitable for completely encasing the first container during transport, which is necessary for particular purposes. If required, the top part 14 can then be cut through along the dashed line 17, whereafter the top part 14 can be removed.
As alternative the cover 16 and part 14 can be made as a single moulding in order to form a dome-like closure. The abutting edges of part 14 and second container 6 respectively are to be formed such that they will interlock.
The invention is not limited to the above described embodiment.
