Description
S. WELCH. Gang Plow.
No. 99,379. Patented Feb. 1, 1870..
N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEN.
SAMUEL WELOH, OFBELPASSI, OREGON.
Letters Patent No. 99,379, dated February 1, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN GANG-FLOWS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom-it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL WELCH, of the town of Belpassi, in the county of Marion, State of Oregon, have invented a new and improved Mode of Attaching Plows to Carriages, regulating their depth, and of Applying Lever-Power to Gang and Sulky- Plows.
I do hereby declare that the following is a full description thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in attaching plows to carriages by'a sliding groove, and regulating the depth of the plow by a bolt with a joint in it, and two levers, constructed so as to raise the foremost end of the plow-frame first, then the other end, to a corresponding height, by applying power to one lever.
To enable others to use my, invention, I will proceed to describe its operation.
Axle, A, to which the hounds N are attached by plates on both sides, terminating in bolts, which pass through a plate on the back of the axle, so that the hounds can be moved to the right or left at pleasure.
Post G is attached to axle A by a staple, with nuts on each end. It is fitted for groove F to work on, to-
raise and lower plow-frame. It also has a friotionu'oller for the end of lever B to rest on.
Groove F works on post G, and holds the plowframe to axle A. There are three plates attached to F, which form a hinge for double or single plows.
The plow-frame E is attached by a bolt going through the plates, attached to groove F and the ends of frame E.
The plows are attached to frame E at Figures 1 and 2. The frame is held together by bolts.
The plow-frame is attached to lever B by a bolt with a joint in it, and not on each end. One end of lever B rests on a friction-roller in post G; the other end rests on the back end of the plow-frame. The bolt passiug'through lever B to the frame, allows the plows to run a certain dept-h. Moving the nut on up per end of the bolt regulates the depth of the plows.
Lever O is attached to lever B by a hinge, and is attached to fulcrum D by a bolt.
Fulcrum D is attached to the bound N by a bolt, and is supported by a bolt going through it-and post G, and it is attached to lever O with a bolt.
liost I is attached to the hound by a bolt, and catches the end of lever 0 when it is pressed down. \Vhen lever O is pressed down to the notches in post I, it will raise the fore end of the plow-frame first, and then: it will raise the back end to a corresponding height.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction, combination, and arrangement of the axle A, hounds N, post G, with friction-roller, sliding groove F,plowfi'ame E, lever B, joint-bolt K, lever 0, post I, and fulcrum l), as shown and described.
SAMUEL \VELOII.
