COMBINED TABLE AND Jim-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1909.
Application filed February 24, 1909. Serial No. 479,767.
To all 107mm it may concern:
Be it known that we, hlILLARD i liocn and MONROE Koch, citizens of the United States, and residents of the cit y ol' .\'ew York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and improved (oinbincd Table and Lamp- St'and, of which the following is a lull, clear, and exact description.
The invention has in view a combined table and lamp stand such as may be easily moved l'roni place to place and support articles accessible from a bed, chair or other convenient position, the lamp being adjustable over the table to direct; the light to any required point.
To this end the invention consists of a suitable base having a lower tubular stand section or standard, an upper stand section telescoping within the lower stand section and adjustable therein to different clovat ions, the upper-stand section being constructed of two sections adjustably pivotally con-; nected, an incandescent lamp carried by the outer or upper pivotal section of the upper stand section, and a table ad ustable to dill'erent elevations on the lower section at the 1;
upper stand section.
ltct'crence is to he had to thc accoin mnyino drawings l'oruiine a part of this spccilitaition, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is aside elevation, partly in com tral vertical section, of a table and lamp stand embodying our invention and Fig. 3
1s a fragmentary view ol the joint between the two sections or the upper stand section on an enlarged scale.
The invention essentially consists ol a base 5, a lower tubular stand section or standard 6, an upper stand section 7, a lamp 8 and a table it). The base 5 is olsuch form and weight as to insure a stable support for the structure, and is directly connected with the lower tubular stand section 6, the latter bein threaded into the base or otherwise rigidly fixed thereto. The upper end ot' the stand section 6 is provided with a thumbscrew lt) to bind on the stand section 7, and secure it at the required elevation, an enlargement or bead icing preferably formed t on the stand section 6 at the point of application of the tluunb-screw in order that sul 'l ici ent metal-may be had for the threads. The upper stand section '7 is also preferably of tubular construction and is itscil con- I structcd of two sections pivoted together to adapt the outer arm or section 11 carrying the lamp 8, to swing in a vertical plane over the table 5), the pivotal connection between these two sections ol the upper stand section 7 being etlected by a bolt- 12 passing through the abutting flattened ends of the two sections and having a thumb-nut 13 for securing the arm in any re uired position of adjust: ment. To insure the positive holdin 01' the arm 11 in adjusted position, the abutting laces at the pivotal joint are provided with intermeshing teeth or serrations 14.
The lamp 8 is an incandescent electric light provided with a reflector 15 to throw the light over the table or other required point, and is fed by the conductors or wires 16 which pass through the arm 11. The table 9 is carried by the lower or inner section of the upper stand section 7 which passes through the center of the table, the latter being provided with a boss 17 on its under side, giving the table a substantial bearing surface and oil'settin any tendency of the table to tilt or yield from. side to side. Through the boss 17 is threaded a thumbscrew 18 adapted to bind on the stand section 7 and secure the table at any required position thereon. Y
The device is especially useful in the sick room or for those taking medicine at periods in the night, in which relation the stand may be placed at the bedside and the medicines placed upon the table. By turning on the light the medicine required may be selected at pleasure.
llaving thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent:
'1. The combination of a base, a lower. tubular stand section carried by the base, an upper stand section telescoping within the lower stand section and ad ustable therein to dill'erentelevations, the upper stand section being composed of two sections adjustably pivotally connected to permit the outer section or arm to be swung in a vertical plane, a lamp carried on said arm or outer section, and a table vertically adjustable on the inner or lower section oi the upper stand section.
2. The combination of a base, a lower tubular stand section secured to the base, an upper stand section telescoping within the lower section and composed of two sections adjustably pivotally connected, stable car- 2 wanes ried by the lower pivotal section of the up- In testimony whereof We have signed our per stand section, an incandescent lamp carnames to this specification in the presence of ried by the upper section or arm of the upper tWo subscribing Witnesses.
