Description

L.E.HALL. l ADJUSTABLE LAMP HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 12, 1907.

ADJSTABLE LAMP-HOLDER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented :rune 29, 1909.
Application led September 12, 1907. Serial No. 392,452.l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS E. HALL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ad'ustable Lamp-Holders, of which the followlng is a specification.
This invention relates to that type of adjustable lamp holders wherein a universal adjustment of the lamp is provided; and the present im rovement has for its object to provide a slmple and eflicient structural formation and combination of parts ada ted to afford a maximum adjustment of the amp in all directions, and a substantial holding of the same at the re uired position, all as will hereinafter more fu ly ap ear.
In the accompanying raWings Figure 1, is a side elevation, With parts in section, of an adjustable lamp holder embodying the present invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are horizontal sections of the same on lines -x and :1f/ x Fi .1, respectively. I
Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the different views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a fixed sup ortin standard for the lamp holder, and Whic may be a cylindrical member of a metal bed or the upright member of a portable stand.
2 is a bracket member formed by a pair lof counterpart clamp bars, Which are 1n turn formed near one end with a pair of opposed recesses 3, `adapted to t the oppositesides of the standard 1 and be clamped thereon in a vertically ad'ustable manner as hereinafter hereinafter describe set forth. ear their other ends said clamp bars are formed with op osed concave recesses 4 for receivin a sp erical end of the lam carrier, and immediately adjacent to sai recesses with ears or extensions 2 for the assage of the auxiliary clamping bolt hereinafter described.
5 isa clamping bolt arranged intermediate of the aforesaid recesses of the clamp bars and adapted to simultaneously clam said .barsu on the sup ortin standard an u on the sp erical hea of t e bracket mem r 5 is an auxiliary clamping bolt passing has a lateral position Wit throu h the aforesaid ears or extensions 2 and a apted to rovide means for holding the clamp bars to t e standard 1 during an adjustment of the lamp carrier hereinafter described. l
6 is the lamp vcarrier above referred to and Which is formed by a pair of spherical heads 7 and 8 connected together by an intermediate neck as shown. One of said heads 7 is adapted to socket in the pair of o posed recesses 4 and be frictionally hel therein, while the other head 8 is formed with a transverse orifice 9 for the passage of the electrical or other conductor of the lamp.
The lamp 10, is secured to one end of the' orifice 9, and may be of an usual type, and
lamp carrier 6, so as to aid in the attainment in a maximum range of adjustment.l
With the resent construction a maximum degree of a justment of the lamp with relation to its supporting standard can be attained without causing any entanglement or kinking of the lam conductor, and at the same time a very su stantial frictional holdin of the parts at the desired adjustment is a orded.
Having thus fullydescribed my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a lamp holder, the combination of a air of clamp members formed With oppose recesses at one end for holding engagement with a lamp carrier and with opposed ears at the other end and immediately adjacent thereto with a pair of opposed recesses for holding engagement with supporting standard, a main clamping bolt passing through the clamp members -intermediate of said recesses, and an lauxiliary clamping bolt passing through""the aforesaid ears and coacting with the main bolt in effecting a holding engagement of the clamp members on the supporting standard.
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 4th day of September, 1907.
LOUIS E. HALL.
