JOHNVINGENT LAMBERT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
PNEUMATIC nnnn FOR BOOTS Ann srions.
I no. 525,354.
Specification of Letters Patent.-
r iestga use 15, 1909.
Application filed November 5, 190a. Serial No. 461,154;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN VINCENT LAM- BERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cl1 1cago,- county of Cook, and State of 5 Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Heels for Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates'to improvements in neumatic heels for boots and shoes, and has or its object to provide a pneumatic heel which will be simple and inexpensive as well as efficient and durable.
With these and other objects in View, the
invention consists in an improved construction and in the novel arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, and' pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being,.of course, understood, that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise construction or details illustrated in the accompanying drawings, nor do I wish to be confined to the use of rubber as the sole material for making the heel parts, but con-' sider myself entitled to use any substance therewith such as fabric, fiber, wood-pulp, or equivalents thereof, which can be vulcanized in the rubber or cemented thereto and not destroy the resiliency therewith.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like characters of reference denote similar parts throu bout the sevepalviews: Figure 1 is a side e evation of the heel portion of a shoe equipped with the preferred form of my improved eel, the heel portion being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under side or wearing surface of the heel. a front elevation of the heel. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of one of the compressible heel elements. Fig. 5 is a front elevation with a portion thereof bein broken away of the sliding compressible hee element. Fig. 6* is a plan view of the :under side of the compressible element shown in Fig. 4.
In carrying out the-aim of my invention, that is, the preferred form, I make the heel preferably of elastic material, such as rubber, molded to shape and vulcanized, the heel comprising a compressible body portion, or plate 1 of the external shape and size of the boot! or shoeheel or lifts A to which it is secured by means of any well known fastening devices. This compressible body 1 has its upper face concave as at 2 and is provided with a centrally locjatedj opening 3. The
lower face of the body 1 is provided with a flange portion 4 having oppositely disposed ways 5 of the bodyl, as clearly shown in 3/ The sliding body 7 is further provided with the heel shaped recess 10, which'is adapted to receive an impervious pneumatic receptacle or bag 11 having the filling and retaining valve 12, which valve .is adapted to pass through the opening 3 when the parts are assembled, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The lower or tread portion of the sliding or compressed body 7 is provided with a heel shaped frictional reinforce 13, as clearly shown, to prevent slipping and further guard against the puncturing ofthe heel.
Itwill be readily seen that the sliding compressed body 7 can be easily and readily ap-' plied to or removed from the" body 1, as it is only held in place by means of a plurality of screws 14, as shown in Fig.2, which screws are adapted to pass through the body 1 and into the heel lifts A, as is manifest.
Having described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a pneumatic heel for boots and shoes, comprising a compressible body having a pair of oppositely disposed grooves or ways, a recessed compressible body adapted to be slidably secured to said first-mentioned body,
and an impervious pneumatic receptacle having a valve contained in said recessed sliding body.
2. A pneumatic heel for boots and shoes, comprising a compressible body having a concave upper face and a centrally located opening a stop depending from the underface of said body, oppositely disposed ways arranged in said body, a sliding compressible body'adapted to be held in position by means of side flanges adapted to work in said oppositely disposed ways, and elastic means nterposed between said bodies for addlng to the elasticity of the heel.v 1 3.'A pneumatic heelfor boots and shoes, comprising a heelshaped compressible body having a concave upper face, and a centrally located opening, a segmental shoulder defrom the underEa-ce of said body, a, nafiie to this Specification in th'evprlasence of compresslble body havmg a recess two subscrlbmg Witnesses.
d. to receive an impervious pneumatlc le having a filling and retainmg JOHN VINOENJI R and means for holding said sliding Witnessesz- I iiiposioion. JANET E. HOGAN,
in testimony whereof I have signed my HELEN F. LILLIs.
