HYPODERMIC SYRINGE.

To all whom it may concern:

. g a citizen of the United States of America, 2) residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne i 5 and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Hypodermic Syringes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accom anying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in hypodermic-syringes; and its object is to so constnlct'a syringe of this class having a detachable nozzle to receive and hold the needle j" that a broken needle may be quickly and 5 easily removed, and it is also an object of the invention to provide an attachment f. whereby the use of a curved needle may be dispensed with. Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a syringe embodying the invention; Fig. 2, an enlarged longitudinal section of the nozzle member and needle; and Fig. 3 an enlarged elevation of one end of the cylinder, showing the nozzle attachment and nozzle in section attached thereto.

which is provided with an internally-screwthreaded socket B in its enlarged end or head to receive the nipple and an axial bore B to receive the needle C, an outwardlyextending flange B being formed on the head and. provided with a milled surface to aid in attaching the nozzle to the nipple. Said needle is provided with a cone-shaped head C, and D is a chamber at the inner end of the socket B, formed with a concave side to form a seat for the conical surface of the head, said chamber being of greater diameter than the diameter of the socket B and head. of'the needle, so that should the needle be broken off within the nozzle a headed pin or any suitable instrument may be inserted in the chamber through the socket and hooked beneath the edge of the needle-head to extract the needle. -Were it not for the chamber 1), when a needle is broken off in the nozzle, as often happens, it would be necessary to punch the needle out, thus subjecting the end of the nozzle to the liability of becoming bent, 800.; but by providing the chamber an opportunity is afforded the operator for get ting at the head of the needle, which he would otherwise be unable to do, as the head is made substantially the same diameter as the socket B, so'that it will seat roperly to prevent leakage around the need e and hold the same firmly in place when engaged by the end of the nipple A.
In order to reach certain parts of the body, as is often the case in dentistry, it is necessary that the needle-point extend at an angle to the cylinder, and in such cases curved needles have heretofore been used; but such needles are difficult to make, very hard to keep clean, and

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is I In a hypodermic syringe, the combination with the cylinder having an externallyscrew-threaded nipple, of a nozzle -formed with an axial bore to receive the needle and an internally-screw-threaded socket to receive the nipple, and with a comparatively large chamber between the inner end of said axial bore and the inner end of said screw- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature too in presence of two witnesses.
