Description

PATENTED JULY 3, 1906.
UNITED STATES KATE MANSFIELD DUNBAR, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
CLOTHES-GRIPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 1906.
Application filed October 31, 1904. Serial No. 230,741.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KATE MANsFrELD DUN- BAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented a new and useful ClothesGripper, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to clothesgrippers for handling clothes in the washboiler and for the purpose of removing them from said boiler.
The device can also be used for other purposes.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with myinvention, the jaws being opened. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the jaws being closed. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention I employ two jaws A, preferably made of wood, and provided with transverse teeth or serrations B at their outer ends. The jaws A have the metal clips 0 rigidly connected to their rear ends by means of rivets C, said clips being essentially triangular in shape and have their inner ends pivotally connected by means of the pivot-bolt D.
E E indicate wooden handles having metallic pivot-ears F connected thereto intermediate their ends by means of rivets G, said ears being connected by means of pivot-bolt II. The forward end of each handle is provided with a metallic strap I, secured by rivets I, and pivot-bolts Ii connect the rear ends of the clips 0 to the forward ends of the straps. A U-shapcd spring L is arranged between the handles and serves to normally hold the said handles apart at their rear ends and together at their forward ends, and when the forward ends of the handles are together the jaws A will be held widely separated, but by pressing the rear ends of the handles together the forward ends are separated and the jawsAare brought together, grasping the clothes or other articles between the teeth B.
It will thus be seen that I provide a simple and efficient construction of device, and it will also be understood that the device may be made any size desired and also from any suitable material.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A device of the kind described comprising a pair of jaws having teeth at their forward ends, triangular-shaped clips connected to the rear ends of the jaws, said clips being pivotally connected to each other, handles having pivot-ears pivotally connected together, metallic straps attached to the forward ends of the handles, and pivotally connected to the rear ends of the clips, and a spring arranged between the handles for normally .holding their rear ends apart, as set forth.
