Be it known that I, JEFFERSON D. CARNE in the county of Henry and proved Foot-'Warmer, of which the following -Myinvention seeks to provide a new and the nature of a boot be conveniently put on or off and while moving about,

Generally my invention comprehends a holder formed of an outer boot-shaped body and an inner similar-shaped portion formed as an integral part of the outer body portion, the whole being of rubber or other waterproof material and air-tight, and whose bot- I tom or foot portions have such relative arrangement whereby to rest closely against each other to produce a solid tread or bearingsurface when walking. i In its more subordinate features my invention comprises aboot of rubber or other waterproof material of one piece formed to provide an inner and outer boot-leg and the foot por tion, a valve-feed opening communicating with the space between the inner and outer portions whose foot members have such correlation whereby the tread portions will lie closely against each other while walking and separate sufiiciently to allow for a free ClI'ClllfihlOllOf hot water or air under the ball of the foot when held at rest and in which the external surface of the inner and outer boot and leg portions are covered with felt or other non-heatconducting material, other details of construction also forming a part of my complete invention, as will hereinafter be fully described, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in 'which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved foot-warmer. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, showing the position of the foot is at rest. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the position of the parts when standing. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line 414: of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a view illustrating the body from which the double boot is formed spread out.

In carrying out my invention I form, as it were, a double boot, and the sameis made of a single piece of rubber or other waterproof material, preferably rubber of that quality from which the ordinary hot-water bags are made. The body A is so shaped that one part thereof can be bent back into the other part whereby to produce an outer boot 1 and an inner boot 2, the latter being of such size as to snugly fit the foot and lower limb of the patient. The two parts 1 and 2 are relatively of such sizes whereby when in their operative condition a space 3 is provided between the two parts which is utilized as a hotwater orhot-air holder, the upper part of which is closed air-tight by the integral annular top or rim portion 1, to which the rubber straps 4 a for pulling on the boot are attached in any well-known manner.

In forming the body to produce the inner and outer boot-sections, as stated, the same is so shaped that the inner boot-section 2 when the complete boot is held in a vertical position will extend down sufficiently to permit the ofits shoe end to rest solid against the inner side of the bottom 1 of the outer boot and whereby to provide a solid hearing or tread portion when walking about, whereby to avoid exerting any unnecessary pressure on the contents within the space between the outer and inner boot portions, which will have the efiect of compressing the fluid within the said spaces and. in the event of the said spaces being entirely filled from producing an excessive back pressure on the valved inlet, as well as bulging the boot out of shape, it being understood that when lying down or when the leg to which the boot is applied is held in a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2, the relaxation of the down pressure on the inner boot will permit of a free circulation of the hot water or air under the foot portion on the inner boot.

I am aware that foot-warmers in the nature of boots having means substance, and-also mitts for holding hot-air, have been provided. invention, however, so far as I know, differs from what'has heretofore been done in this art in the peculiar construction of the double bootthat is, making the same of a single bodyone portion of which is foldable within the-other and the two portions so shaped that a free circulation of air or water is provided for around the entire surfaces of the inner boot when the complete boot is held ofi the floor or in a horizontal position and in which the inner or foot portion has such relation to the outer portion that the tread portions of both foot members will lie in close contact to form a solid bearing to permit the patient to move about without exerting undue pressure on-the fluidpontained within the boot.

, My improved construction of foot-warmer provides a simple and effective means for keeping the feet and lower limbs warm, and it can be readily utilized by the patient when sleepingjwith perfect safety and can be drawn off or on without exertion.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As a new article, a foot-warmer formed of a flexible waterproof material, one endof with the usual for holding a warming to closely fit the which is smaller than the other, both ends terminating in oppositely-arranged leg and foot portions, the smaller leg and foot portion being adapted to fold back into the larger leg and boot portion whereby to form a surrounding fluid-holding space, the length of the smaller and larger foot and leg port-ions being relatively such whereby the inner foot portion will have close contact with the outer foot portion, and the said larger leg portion having an annular rim at the top thereof at the juncture of the larger and smaller leg portions, a valved intake connected to the annular rim and communicating with the space surrounding the foot portion, and anon-heatconducting material covering the entire external surface of the inner and outer foot and legmembers, all being arranged substantially as shown and for the purposes described.

2. As a new article of manufacture, -a foot and leg warmer formed of a continuous sheet of flexible waterproof material one portion of which. is smaller than the other and adapted leg of the wearer, the other portion being larger that the first-named portion, said' larger portion being formed with an integral annular rim at the juncture of the larger and smaller portions, andthe said smaller portion being adapted to-fold back into the largerportion to forma fluid-holding space, anon-heat-conducting cover for both of said portions, and a annular rim and communicating with fluidholdingspace, asset forth.
