PATENT OFFICE.
BROOM-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent N 0. 736,831, dated August 18, 1903. Application filed August 30, 1902. Serial No. 121,597. (No model.)
To all whOm it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. EIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of 0010- rado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to broom-holders; and the object of the same is to construct a de vice of this character which can be secured to a wall of a room to serve to engage and hold securely the handle of a broom and which will not be strained by the pulling of the handle out of it without first opening the jaws.
The simple and novel construction employed by me in carrying out my invention is fully described and claimed in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of my device. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
The numeral 1 designates the stationary member of my device, which is shaped to form an arm 2 and a curved jaw 3. Oppositelyextending leaves 4 and 5 are formed integral with the member 1 and are apertured at 4 and 5, respectively, to accommodate screws for securely attaching the device to a wall. Lugs 6 and 7are also formed on the member 1 to engage the Wall to steady the device. A member 8 is pivoted to the member 1 by a pin 9 and bears a handle 10 and a curved jaw 11. The member 8 is integral and is constructed of a single piece of sheet metal bent double. The point of the jaw 11 is bifurcated to form a fork 12, which embraces the point of the jaw 3 and securely holds it from being sprung sidewise in withdrawing the broom. A coiled spring 13, having expanding arms 1 1 and formed integral therewith, is mounted between the arm 2 and handle 10. The arm 14 bears an eye 143-, which engages a lug 2*, Two lugs 2 are also formed on the arm 2.
formed on the arm 2 to engage the sides of the arm 14 and hold it in alinement. The arm 15 bears on the concave-under side of the handle 10.
In operation my device is secured to a wall by screws fitted in the apertures 1 and 5. To insert a broom-handle between the jaws 3 and 11, the handle 10 is grasped and forced toward the wall and the jaws opened, after which the handle 10 is released. To remove the broom, the brush is pulled down and the handle withdrawn.
I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a broom-holder, the combination of a stationary member constructed to be secured to a support, bearing a curved jaw and an arm, said stationary member having supporting-lugs at each end, fastening-lugs on the arm bent inwardly at right angles integral therewith, a member pivoted to said first member and bearing a handle and a jaw, and an expansive spring bearing on said arm and said handle, substantially as described.
2. In a broom-holder, the combination of a stationary jaw, constructed to be secured to a support, bearing a curved jaw and an arm each having supporting-lugs, a fastening-lug at the end of the inner side of the arm, lugs for retaining expansion-spring inalinement, a member pivoted to said first member and bearing a handle and a jaw and an expansion-spring bearing on said arm and handle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- IIGSSGS.
