Description

UNiTnn STATES Patented June 2, 1903.
GERHARD MATI-Iis, 'or RROOKLYN, NEW YORK.r
eUARD-CAP 'Fou 'SHADE-Romans.
SPECIFICATION forming part Qfmeaers Patent nro.A 729,881, dated June 2, 19o3.
Application led August 7, 1902.
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:4 A Beit known that I, GERHARDVMATI-IIS, a citizen ofl the United States, residing in New' York, borough'of Brooklyn, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WindowShades, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for the slotted bracket for supporting shade-rollers; and its object is to provide an inexpensive means whereby the accidental disengagement of the shade-roller from the brackets is prevented.
The invention consists of a guard-cap for the slotted bracket of` the shade-roller comprising an annular `portion frictionally e11-v gaging the barrel'of the bracket and a frustoconical portion having an open end of less diameter than the diameter of the shoulder of the pintle, upon which latter it is adapted to abut to prevent lateral displacementof the cap, and having a longitudinal slot communi-. eating with the open end and extending through the conical portion and annular por'- tion, as will be more fully described herein after and iinally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of "the spring-actuated end of a shade-rollerin position in the supportingbracket. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section thereof on line 2 2, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on line 3 3, Fig. 2. Figs. t and 5 are vertical transverse sections on line 4 4, Fig. 3, showing the guard respectively in open and in closed position. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the guard-cap; and Fig.- 7 is a perspective view of the `shade-roller bracket, the same being of usual construction.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring' to the drawings, A represents the shade-roller, which is provided with the usual spring-actuated pintle a, that is adapted to be seated in the bracket I3, which latter is of usual construction, having the slotted barrel h. On the barrelis arranged the guard-cap C, which is annular in shape andis provided with the frusto-conical portion c', which is provided with a central opening c2, and the 5o end of said frusto-conical portion is of smaller Serial No. 118,770. (No model.)
diameter than the diameter of the shoulder of the pintle a, as shown in Fig. 3, upon which metal and is provided with a longitudinal slot c3, and adjacent to the slot is formed the inV ger-stop c4. The pintle a is received in the opening c2 of the cap. p
In adjusting the shade the guard-cap on the bracket is turned to the position as shown in Fig. 2, so that the slot e3 thereof is in alinement with the slot of the barrel of the bracket. After this is accomplished the guard-cap is turned in position as shown in Figs. l and 5, so as to close the recess or'slot of the barrel of the bracket. The cap is movable on the barrel `of the bracket with suificient friction to prevent any accidental movement of the 7o same. In'order to remove the shade-roller from the brackets, the guard-cap is turned to the position shown in Fig. i, so as to place the slot ofthe guard-cap in alinement with the slot of the barrel of the bracket, thereby permitting-the ready removal of the pintle therefrom.
The attachment is simple and inexpensive in construction and is adapted for use with the shade-rollers and brackets of present con- 8o struction. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with the shouldered pintle of a shade-roller, of a bracket having a slotted barrel, Vand a guard-cap inovably fitted on said barrel, said cap being provided with an annular portion frictionally engaging said barrel and with a frusto-conical portion, 9o having an open end of less diameter than the shoulder of the pintle adapted to abut upon said shoulder to prevent lateral displacement, and a longitudinal slot communicating with said opening and extendingsthrough the conical portion, and annular portion, substantially as set forth.
2. A guard-cap for shade-rollers, consisting of an annular portion and a frusto-conical portion provided with an open end adapted roo to engage the pntle and to abut upon the my invention I have signed my name in presshoulder of the pintle of the shade-roller, so ence of two Witnesses. its to prevent accidental displacement, said i 1 i annular and frusto-oonical portions being GERHARD MATHIS' 5 slotted longitudinally, substantially as set Witnesses:
forth. l PAUL GOEPEL,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as l HENRY J. SUHRBIER.
