Beit known that I, THOMAS HUGHES', a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Cigar-Stands, oi which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to cigar-stands; and the object of the same is to construct a device of this character which may be detachably secured to the rim of a table or desk and serve to hold a lighted cigar and catch the ashes therefrom.

The novel construction employed by mein carrying out my invention is fully described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure l is a perspective .of my device. Fig. 2 is a detail of the keeper. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the complete device.

My device is adapted to be stamped from a single piece of sheet metal, and comprises a hemispherical bowl l, a hemicylindrical stem 2, and a tongue 3, integral with the stem and beveled on both sides toward the outer free end. The tongue 3 has a rounded projection L thereon, which is designed to engage a recess 5, formed in a keeper 6. The keeper 6 is constructed to accommodate the tongue 3 and has non-parallel sides 7, bearing flanges 8, which are perforated to adapt them to be secured by screws 9 to the projecting rim l0 of a table or desk.

When in use, a cigar is laid in the stem portion 2 with the lighted end projecting into the bowl, which serves to catch the ashes falling therefrom. The resilient action of the tongue will serve to hold the projection 4 in engagement with the recess 5; but the form of the projection will enable it to be easily disengaged to remove the stand to clean it.

I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-

ln a cigar-stand, the combination of a bowl, astem connected to said bowl and constructed to supporta cigar, a tongue connected to said stem and having non-parallel sides converging toward the free end, said tongue having a projection thereon, a keeper constructed to accommodate said tongue and having a recess therein located to engage said projection on Y said tongue, substantially as described.
