Description
@nimh tat gstwt l @flirt IMPROVEMENT IN SHOES.
dlgs flgrhnle orten-eb tu in tlgrsf g'tcttct nuut mm making putt nt tige. simu.
Be it. known that I7 WILLIAM A. DEITZ, of the cityof Albany, State of New York, hare-invented :u new und useful Improvement in the Construction ofv oots of the kind usuali),y worn by women, uudl'cnown :1s laced or huttoned boots; :1nd I declare the following specification, with the drawings forming pzrrt` thereof; to be u. t'ull und complete description of my invention.
Figure 1 represents in perspective u boot showing my improvement.
Figure 2 represents the same in profile. v
The usuul method of constructing laced or buttoned boots is Well knownto be with openi i lumi the fron-t or down the side, drawn together by lucings7 or buttoned' through un overlapA oi' one of thesidesrof the. opening.
My improvement'consists in making un opening, A, in the rear of the boo-, extending from the top duim tu the upper part of the counter, that is, to the top oi' the n'eurersheel,y leufvjfng u. small space between the edges, of the opening, which spuce is closed on the inside by u tongue o-f soft, lleutlixer, B, fastened :It its lower edgeto the top ofthe counter.- This opening is covered on the outside byatllupof stout leather, C", which extends around the sides of the boot, so us to be held by buttons just behindthe :mkle boneon one side, the other being secured in similar position on the opposite side by stitchiug'or by button-s, stitching bein-g preferable, usssecuring the smoothest fit for the Hup. i
The advantages of this mode of construction arc deem-l to be: The @use with which thebootcan he put on and off, and that Without stretching out of shape the fro of' the bout, as is* freq uently done when the opening is on the front or side, especially \\'ith new und tightttin-g boots. The security from takingin water when passing through gutters or pools, as when stepping ou the ttl-e;` with the heel -nised the opening behind is carried above the level of those al: the front und side. Cheupness of munufuc'turez it having been estimated that boots made as described can he made for less cost than those opening :it -the fronty or side of similar quality.
What I claim as my invention, und desire to secure by Letters Patent, isI- The method ot' constructing boots by making the opening for the introduction of the foot in the back, and covering the openingn'ith u tongue on the inside, nud on the outside -with a Hup: extending around the sideof the boot, secured to the sume, in the manner- :nid for the purposes set forth. Y
