SPOOL-HOLDING ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,481, dated May 23, 1899.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, JAMES T. VOSHELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paragon, in the county of Morgan and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool-Holder Attachments for Sewing-Illachines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Myinvention relates to spool-holder attachments for sewing-machines and the object is to provide a simple and convenient device to hold a number of spools of thread, so as to be out of the way when not in use and at the same time within immediate reach when wanted.

To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

The accompanying drawings show my invention in the best form now known to me; but many changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.

The same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the table of a sewing-machine with my improved spoolholder attachment in place. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective View of the attachment removed from the machine. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the device.

1 denotes the sewing-machine table, and 2 the front piece of a drawer formed with vertical side walls 3 3, which slide in suitable grooves formed in the table and frame.

4 4 denote parallel side pieces pivoted at their inner ends on the screws 5 5 to the inner sides of the walls 3 3, and their outer ends are connected by a horizontal base-shelf 6, which is provided with a vertical series of parallel Serial No. 674,775. (No model.)

spindles 7 7, which secure the spool-thread, and 8 denotes a needle or pin cushion which is detachably secured to one of said spindles.

9 9 represent coiled wire springs having their inner ends fixed by the screws 10 10 to the side Walls 3 3 and their free ends resting against the lugs 12 12, fixed to the inside of the side pieces 4 4, the tension of the springs being exerted to raise the pivoted frame carrying the spindles until the lugs 13 on the pieces 4 4 rest against the lateral pins 14 on the side walls, so that the spools will be projected above the level of the drawer, so as to be exposed to view and in convenient reach of a person using the machine or sewing by hand near it. As the drawer is pushed inwardly the inclined edges 15 15 of the side pieces 4 4 will ride under the front edge of the table 1 and withdraw the frame carrying the spools into the drawer, and when the drawer is pulled out the springs 9 9 will project the spool-frame, as above described.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States, is-

A spool-holder for sewing-machines comprising the machine-table, a drawer sliding under said table and having parallel side walls 3, 3, parallel side pieces 4, 4, formed with inclined edges 15, 15, lugs 12 and 13 and pin 14,

and pivoted to said side walls, a horizontal.

base-shelf 6 connecting the free ends of said pivoted side pieces, a series of vertical parallel spindles 7, 7, fixed in said base and the spring 9, fixed at one end to said wall and having its free end in operative contact with said lug 12, substantially as shown and described.
