IM PROVEM ENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,984, dated July 3, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON BEGKETT, of Olive Branch, Glermont county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin gdrawin gs, forming part ofthis specification.
My improvement has reference to a protecting or shin plate in connection with a cutter secured to the mold-board of a plow.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a plow with my improvement attached. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of my sheathing-plate and cutter and its application to the plow.
A is the mold-board of a plow, to which is bolted my improvement, the sheathing-plate and cutter B and O, forged in one piece, being bolted to or riveted to mold-board A, or to the frame of the plow, by bolts or rivets b. The lower end of sheathing-plate B is mortised into or underlaps the plowshare at c.
Having described the mode of applying my improvement to plows, I herein set forth its advantages.
The object of sheathing-plate B is to protect the mold-board A, since the greatest amount of friction occurs upon the shinof the plow, wearing it out before the balance.
